I thought there was a Monk thread, but a search turned up no threads with "Monk" in the title, so I made one.

I just finally started watching this show when I recorded a marathon last weekend. I've watched 4 eps now, and every episode makes me love the series more.

Applicant: "What are the hours?"
Monk: "9 am... until one..."
Applicant: "1pm?"
Monk: "until one of us dies."

That just killed me.  :laff:

I've seen like 3 episodes, and it just doesn't do anything for me

Well, it's probably not for everyone, the humor is a bit dry and they almost never make fecal jokes. I'm in love, though. Also, I've always thought Tony Shalhoub was an underrated actor, and I'm thrilled to see him in a starring role on a successful show.

New episodes come in January! I'm so excited! I relate to Monk a little. I have some OCD, but not as much as him, and not as many phobias. One of the best shows on television today.

I've seen a few episodes here in the UK (straight after one episode of Star Trek: TOS and a double bill of TNG, bliss) and it's caught me quite by surprise in being a pretty decent programme. And it's able to get a good number of decent guest stars in it too, the episode with John Turturro playing Monk's brother was very good indeed.

Bush: yeah, that was a very pleasant surprise to me as well.

I_c: I thought it was december, isn't there a new ep tomorrow, they're doing the big "B&W vs Color" thing they've been talking about all week?

Nah. I think the last episode that was on said stressed a date in january, then after it was over it said it would be airing it again in january. It was actually quite funny.

Well, they changed their minds, there is a new episode being aired twice tomorrow, once in B&W and then in Color. I assume this is to satisfy the show's creator, who probably wanted it in b&w to begin with but was vetoed by network execs.

I liked Monk to begin with... but it quickly became apparent that it was a one-joke quasi-comedy stapled onto a half-baked mystery theme.
The obsessive/compulsive thing gets really old really quickly, and added to that it's a real condition and not something I'm comfortable laughing at anyway since I look after intellectually disabled people who have the problem for real.
The mysteries are very unlikely and seem to usually involve the character's personal lives in some nonsense cosmic coincidence.

Nah, not for me. I know it's only light froth, but still...

For me it went down when they wrote Sharona Flemming out of the show.

Well, it's certainly not for everyone but I've had the opposite experience, I love it more with every episode I see. Having some minor OCD symptoms myself (like not being able to sit still or think straight if I know that my video games or DVDs are not in correct alphabetical order) but it doesn't really interfere with my life for the most part. So I find myself relating to Monk to an extent, but the show also serves to remind me that things are never as bad as I sometimes think.

It also just keeps making me laugh. Every episode has a few subtle gags that just floor me. Most recent: "You've never seen snow? Oh, it's beautiful. No two snowflakes are the same. ... but somehow it's still beautiful." Certainly not a joke I'd expect to work for everyone, but I love it.

I also have little ocd pet peeves. Like things having to be straight and I can't pay attention to something when theres a sharp edge in the way like a corner.

I have managed to see a few episodes only so far, but none of them were boring, so in my opinion it's a good show.

Two year bump.

USA recently moved reruns of one of my partners' favorite shows, JAG out of the 7AM timeslot and replaced it with Monk.  This was welcome news to me until I found out they're ending the show next year.  I may have to ask for some DVDs for Christmas as Hulu seems to only have a handful of episodes.

There are what, seven seasons of Monk?
