"Funeral for a Fiend" was actually fairly good.

that was definitely one of the best episodes of the season.  Dr. August's portrayal of the founding fathers was classic university professor.  I was afraid that the whole 'Homer starts a grunge band' thing would be weak- after all, it's been done before in barbershop quartet form- but it was actually quite well done.

overall, 8.5 out of 10

Agreed. Best of the season thus far, with such a nice solid story and absolutely no point that I felt frustrated by. I think I laughed more than normal at this one than I do other new episodes. It was just so well-done in its entirety.

Good to see that Matt Selman is back to being awesome after Husbands and Knives.

I feel stupid for not knowing offhand, but does anyone know the name of the song that was played in the scene where Marge and Homer are dividing up their things?

I suppose this kind of thing was going to start happening eventually, but if they were going to retcon episodes, why not the BAD ones?

It just showed a PSA billboard with Sonic on it and it was something along the lines of "Sonic the Hedgehog says: Save it for marriage"

The pic, FYI, showed Sonic proposing to Amy Rose.

Why do I know that name? I haven't played a Sonic game since the mid-90s.

I expected this episode to be mediocre at best, but I was pleasantly surprised.  The Bonnie and Clyde story had some excellent jokes in it, and the thinly veiled sexual humor in the Lady and the Tramp story was great.  Unfortunately, I missed most of the third story, so I can't comment on that.

I agree with soylentO.  It was ok not as bad as it seemed like it would be. I didn't see most of the 3rd story also so I have no clue how that ended.

I just been watching some new episodes. I liked the three love stories one. But the Bonnie and Clyde one was meh. Marge and Homer as Lady and The Tramp was so adorable And Nelson and Lisa as Sid and Nancy was cool.

The I watched the one with Bart befriended a cow. That was a cute episode

The one with the return of Lurleen Lumpkin was very good too. Good to see Homer in his Colonel outfit. (Colonel Homer was the episode I develop a crush on Homer)

So....  They did it.

I wasn't a fan of the episode at all.  I went in with low expectations and when the first act closed the way it did, I developed a sliver of hope... which was quickly crushed by the second and third acts.  In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have watched "Mother Simpson" right before the episode aired.

I didn't think it was too bad. I did like it for the most part, but I wish it had been a whole lot more grounded with a much more solid focus on the family (especially with more Abe and more Burns). I liked the first act break (ver nicely well-done), the ending montage was cute and even Homer's grieving was pretty good, but the wackiness it descended into was just... I dunno, but it makes it seem a lot lamer.

It wasn't too terrible as it was (although, of course, it's nowhere near as good as Mother Simpson and even Carjacker is much better), but I think if the storyline had been more focused with more time given to Mona when she was alive (I'm sick of unfunny un-related beginnings that stretch on for way too long), it would've turned out a lot better.

I just thought that was unfair. I love Mona personally. And I agree that had it focused more on her life while she was alive, then it would have been ok. I would have accepted something more along the lines of Homer and Mona making up at the end of the show...and then she died. The final montage was cute. But I really didn't feel any emotion which is what I liked about Mother Simpson.

The new shows are getting lamer. I don't mean plot wise, I mean the execution sucks. Family Guy is becoming like that too which is a pity. But that's for a different thread.

I just think the episode was handled extremely poorly, I thought Mother Simpson was such a great and meaningful episode, but when Mona died in this episode, I felt literally nothing

So The Simpsons is in HD fomat and I like it. The best intro gag ever iw where they did The Brady Bunch and Cheers with sidehow Bob apears.  The Homer forgotting his bill was a good ep even Marge snogs a woman (Forgot her name)

Yeah that couch gag was pretty clool. The new Simpsons intro is also pretty good, even if Ralph does apear from nowhere. The ep was alright, a bit patchy but reasonable...

My favourite couch gag was the one where they run toward the couch and it just goes backward, so they just keep chasing it. I always laugh when I see it.

I don't know, the hd one, it's just...weird. I'd prefer stick to the classic start.

yeah, the one thing I loved about the old intro is that it still showed season one animation up until the 20th season, also it was funny seeing long dead charactes like Bleeding gums Murphy, it was just so ridiculously out of place, but everyone was used to it, changing the intro this late just seems unnecessary

Considering how The Simpsons has always had a fairly lose continuity to begin with, I still find it difficult to believe that a single episode apparently destroyed it.

The whole kidnapping aspect to the plot made no sense at all whatsoever and was stupid and ruined what was turning out to be a pretty good episode otherwise.

And Sideshow Bob's appearance made no sense, either. Ug.

It was close to the Funeral of a Fiend episode, so it probably was to trick the audience, but it looks like it just annoyed them

And I'm not sure why Patty and Selma would kidnap Homer, but I think they're just jealous, because neither of them have got married yet. At least not for a long time.
