I doubt most folks on PEEL have seen any of his movies, with the possible exception of A History of Violence, but this thread is dedicated to hoping (And in regards to the poll, yeah, it's for favorites). I'd choose Videodrome myself, simply because it has some of the most amazing effects I've ever seen in a movie (without computer technology), it avoids the banal dialogue the Fly and A History of Violence suffered from, and it maintains its interest all the way through (even if by the end the interest is mostly visceral). So, yeah.

I've actually only seen two. A History of Violence was a great moive, but Crash was very overrated. It's not that it was a bad movie or anything, but it certianlly wasn't best picture quality stuff. The Oscars are a farce anyway, it's all about politics. I can see the discussions between acadamy members now:
"Oh my god, this movie has minorities in it! Let's vote for it and show the world how racially tolerant we are."
"Yeah, we're super!"

Actually, you're thinking of a different film. David Cronenberg's Crash is a movie about people who have a fetish for crashing automobiles, and was made about ten years earlier. Here's a link.

Cronenberg is the most talented director to ever come out of Canada (Sorry, Atom Egoyan and Norman Jewison, but it's true).

I've seen most Cronenberg films (all except Rabid, Shivers, The Brood and M. Butterfly) and my favourite is probably The Fly.  I mean, who else would ever think to take that crazy Vincent Price film and turn it into a metaphor for AIDS?

Also, History of Violence was easily the best film of 2005.

Yeh, I knew that was the Crash that you were talking about. That's why i think its off, i have been in a car accident, a bad one, so that's why i am prejudiced. To me its nothing to glorify, for any reason.

Ah, sorry about that. I saw Crash on the poll and was all like, "Whoa, I didn't know David Cronenberg directed that."
