Hockey episode was lazy, not as good as the boat ep, but still a lot better than the first 2 episodes

That White Trash episode was excellent. In fact the last month of episodes have been pretty sweet. I like how Charlie always gets along with the youngfolk, like the Korean girl, the highschoolers...the only one he didn't get along with was the kid he was told was his but that kid was nuts.

edit: my favorite quote this season thus far...

So Mac gained fifty pounds for Season 7. :nono: The trailer is just...odd. I understand what they're doing, but just...odd. Also how many Big Mac jokes can you make a season? We'll see how this weight gain plays out. I'm wondering if he did it to get with a really hot chick who only dated fat dudes, or something.

The Season 7 Trailer

Season 6 comes out on DVD in US on September 13 btw :D

Man...this show got from sunny to just plain stupid. I did not like the first two episodes at all :hmpf: I mean they were okay...but there really seemed to be no great overriding plot I wanted to care about. I know what I am getting into with this show...but now it's pretty much all gross humor...I thought it could be better than that...

The season opener was just "okay" (though with a brilliant ending), but the Jersey Shore episode was a stone-cold classic.

I've heard these first two episodes have way more blood and grossness than the rest of the season, in any case.

Woah woah woah woah woah... Wait. People are badmouthing the season opener? I agree the rest of season 7's been pretty hit-or-miss, but Frank's Pretty Woman was fucking BRILLIANT. EVERY scene had me laughing out loud the entire time, and everyone's performance was amazing. ESPECIALLY Mac. Seriously, any time he's on camera in that episode, watch him. Seeing him just standing there, staring at his food in silence for over a minute is one of the most inexplicably hilarious things EVER. It was a perfect episode! What's wrong with you people?! Easily in my all-time top three, along with The Gang Solves the North Korea Situation and The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis. Season 2's still my favourite, though. They've lost consistency these past couple of years.

GREAT Reveal. Well worth the six seasons wait.

BTW - it was left ambiguous, but do you think now we actually know the waitress' name as well based on Frank's actions?

The finale was set up really awesomely, there was SO much stuff for the fans. But they never really payed any of it off. I was a little disappointed. First half of this season was FAR better than the second half. :/

Oddly, I thought the later episodes were generally better (aside from the Jersey Shore episode, which was top 5). But it's interesting that there would even be a difference at all since they don't really air remotely in order of how they were made.

Great season, all in all. Part 1 of the finale was definitely better, but the dance number might have been the funniest moment in the whole season. My one major criticism of the season is that the "Frank's Brother" episode was pretty bad. Well, and "How Mac Got Fat" was kind of haphazard and cobbled together, since it was a holdover that they added new material to.

I thought there was very little comic payoff to Mac being fat. I was expecting something huge for him to gain the weight like that...but it seemed rather pointless...

I was dying to know how it happened for a while, but in retrospect I think it probably would have been funnier if it was just never really explained...just the natural course for the character, as Rob McElhenney once suggested. As it is, I kind of think they never really intended to explain it, but it just happened because they had to fit that season 6 holdover (originally titled "The Gang Gets Successful") into the season somehow.

Revealing his name was brilliant, though, ESPECIALLY with him being so fat all of a sudden.

Yeah the name reveal was well worth the wait. I would have thought his weight gain would have been due to a girl, like maybe she only dated bigger dudes and he wanted to best Dennis and win the chick or something.

I have part of a fan script I wrote for the show a year or so ago if anyone is interested in reading it...made me laff, anyway, though that doesn't say much...

So, apparently nobody talked about season 8 at all here, which is understandable I guess since it wasn't that great. The only one I remember sticking out was Charlie And Dee Find Love, which was a good episode.

Anyway, season 9 just started and there's been two episodes. The first was pretty decent, but I thought the newest one Gun Fever Too: Still Hot was fantastic.

Discuss. Or not.

Season 8 was a huge disappointment for me. So much rehashing of ground already treaded... It seemed like it was trying to be "meta," but it just felt fucking lazy. You're right about Charlie and Dee Find Love though, that was great - I'd almost forgotten entirely about it, too! I also really enjoyed The Gang Gets Analyzed (easily the best episode of the season) and Reynolds vs. Reynolds: The Cereal Defense.

The season 9 premiere was solid, albeit a little underwhelming. Though the twist at the end was quite well-executed and most definitely a surprise. Gun Fever Too: Still Hot didn't do much for me, it almost felt like it belonged in season 8 for the sheer amount of rehashed ideas in it... They've covered the gun issue before, they've had more than their fair share of inappropriate interactions with children before - hell, they've even armed children before. It's a little sad that The League now has the better-quality episode out of the two more often than not. I really hope this season picks up later... Episode 3 of each season almost always winds up being one of the best, though.

I haven't seen the newer eps because Fxx is only on the extended package for my provider and the other cable provider doesn't get it at all. The premiere only got 760,000 views, which makes me think if they continue with those numbers, the show might get cancelled after this season

Yes, it was picked up for a 9th and 10th season at the same time. The lower ratings are probably also due to a lack of availability -- which is the entire reason IASIP is on FXX now. FX put what is arguably their most well-known and popular show on FXX in order to promote the new channel and to get people to watch/subscribe to it. Back in '06, they syndicated the show on Fox in order to carry viewers over to watch the show (and other shows) on FX. It worked then; I'm just not so optimistic that it will work now, especially taking into consideration the aforementioned recent decline in quality/consistency.

As for getting renewed beyond Season 10, it is definitely still possible. We'll just have to see how good the coming episodes/season are and see how the dice roll. I can see this going in one of two extreme directions, however. Either the show is given a lot of grace and slack because it is being used to promote a new channel, or it is dropped after this plan doesn't work. In either case, I'm sure most viewers will wait until the new seasons get added to Netflix and other services.

They're planning a film to tie up the show, once it does get cancelled.

10 seasons and a movie is a pretty fantastic run, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if that was it.

I missed the Season 9 premiere, but I saw the Gun Fever sequel, and I thought it was hilarious.

DirecTV has been giving me FXX for free so far. I just hope it stays that way, and it's not just some trial.
