Who here has a DVD player and who is still undecided and reluctant to leave VHS? Many of you might have a stand alone DVD player and one in your computer, if so then vote "I have a stand alone DVD player" because it shows that you have bought it for that intension only.

I took the plunge late 2000 to DVD, I also have one in my computer.

I`m searching for a TEAC DVD reader for my computer, someone know where i can buy one on-line?

I have a TEAC CD reader rated at 40X that is even more faster than a LG DVD rated at 16X (50X for CD i guess), so a TEAC DVD should be great

Stand alone and PC, maybe there should have been an option on the vote for that?

VH to the S.  I don't even use it. Downloading DVD quality movies is much easier and it doesn't involve strenuous and tiring Renting.

I'm thinking about buying a stand alone (and a TV for that  :p) but DVDs are so freaking expensive. The discs I'd want would be Futurama($30 ok), Alien legacy ($110 here, $64 in US), Matrix ($20 or $60 for special edition) and maybe Braveheart($20 or 30 for special). Thats nearly $200 just for these few and i think I'd only watch them 3 times or so... Too lazy to rent stuff too, so I dunno  :p

Yeh, it is bloody expensive but it's also really cool. It gets even more expensive with widescreen TVs and surround sound but it really does makes a difference.

I have the "Alien Legacy", very nice boxed set and the menu's on the first two are superb and mine is the UK version whch means it has a bonus 5th disc. I hate it when I buy a DVD only to find that a year later it gets re-released with better packaging and more extras, a prime example being "The Matrix" which I have the old version of :(

I can't wait until monday :D

I have a computer DVD dealie, plus a stand-alone hand-me-down dealie. So far I only own Star Wars, because everything is just too damn expensive. Renting stuff is way better.

I really want Midnight Madness on DVD though. If I ever see it for cheap(seven dollars or less), I am definitely going to get it.

DVD player stand alone, and another one in the computer.

*salavates at the thought of the kinda pictures he could get from a futurama dvd...*

Whats the point in having a 5+ disc changer in your DVD player? I can see 2, as many DVD's have 1 for Special features, 1 for the movie, but 5? Bah, waste of cash.

I have a standalone and that's it. I wanted to get a DVD player with my new computer, but I couldn't afford it becaused I opted to buy a LCD flat-panel screen instead.

The reason my dad got a 5-disk DVD player was so that he could also use it as a CD player.

Does it have an MP3 player too?  Just imagine how many hours of music you could play on that sucker.

Personally I don't like 5 disc changers, but there are good reasons for them, for example when season 2 of Futurama comes out, you can load up the player with all of it's discs, you'll be able to choose any combination of episodes without having to keep getting up and manualy change the discs.

Here's a cool DVD player.

Actually, it's a slightly oversized Gamecube with DVD playing capabilities. It also plays VCDs and audio CD, and has outputs for all kinds of TVs. That means that gamers can now hook up with a 5.1 surround sound receiver if they're lucky to have one.

It's made with the help of Panasonic, and it's Japanese, so it only plays Jap games (unless you install a mod chip) and region 2 DVDs (us Americans get screwed yet again).

That looks like a really nice bit of kit, DVD and VCD on the same machine is sweet, and of course the games. Are those photos from a magazine or is do you know someone that actaully has that?

It's from a game magazine, but if you're interested in where they sell them, check out www.ncsx.com . It's called the Gamecube Q.

I have both a stand-alone DVD player (a year old, no fancy mp3 player capabilities) and a DVD drive on my PC (the drive is almost 3 years old, I bought it in 1999).

I also have a DVD decoder card, which is currently not in use since AthlonXP 1600+ doesn't need any decoder + the VGA jump cable between gfx card and the decoder weakens the image quality visibly.
