Yeah, it was great, the best bit was in the delivery challenge when Jeremy and James finshed and after about 5 mins Richard drives through with matrasses strapped to the sides of his car, he's the only who actually did things right, Jeremy was his usual self...and James just had a shit Van.

Looks like Richard Hammond's house is for sale. Maybe he's moving to one with wheelchair access after his accident.

*Bump* Top gear was great last night, even though I only got to catch the ending. Pitty about Clarkson taking that sharp turn to capside.....

I just heard the news also - been flicking through News 24 and am hoping for the best - it's not like if you crash at 280MPH you'll come out OK. I managed to get his autograph when he was at my dad's workshop looking at motorbikes, and he is really a great man

The term 'Critical' can mean a whole load of different things, though

Top Gear wouldn't be the same without him  :(

That's horrible news  :(

I've been looking up several different news sites - there are conflicting information. It seems to range from "He walked away from the crash and was helped onto the helicopter" to "He was concious and talking when he was taken to the helicopter" to "He was cut from the car unconcious and only regained conciousness upon arrival at hospital".

I can only hope it was the lesser of these stories.

Very sad news, I'm just happy he is still alive. I really hope his brain injury isn't permanent because that would be tragic. Will Jeremy Clarkson still rip it out of him because of his teeth? Who knows, it'll be weird...

*Update for tonight*

Stable but critical - he suffered a bad brain injury, but doctors are reasonbly confident he'll make a good recovery

I agree, they're generalising too much, I heard today on the radio that it was supposed James who was driving. Good job (in some respects) it wasn't because hes taller, older, and less fit, he will probably have been killed straight away.

Hooray! Hamster's out of intensive care!

Apparently he had a short conversation with James May, who later commented that 'he is perfectly intact deep inside'

This is only good news! The sense of optimism is growing, and for that I'm really glad

Yay!  :)

It was amusing actually, I've often thought of James being the more sensative one and Jeremy being the more brash, contraversial type, but it was Jeremy who was saying things like "Well we're all really devastated and our thoughts are really with Richard and his family at this point" while James is saying "He's a little battered in but he's still the arrogant little shit I know and love...he's still mumbling, but he's making just as much sense as he usually does..." All said in jest of course, but still...  :p

Though James did admit to having an "unmanly moment" when he first saw Richard in his hospital bed trying to grin at him.

Doctors are now hopeful of a COMPLETE recovery!

New pictures released to day of Richard Hammond walking and smiling, thats good to see. He's been moved to a hospital nearer his home and Doctors expect him to be back on Top Gear in 6 months. Some people have said they think that's a long time but to say that he was fighting for his life a week ago I think it's great news!

So what did you all think of the first episode?

Talk about Hammond tempting fate when he said before his crash that he might create the biggest crash you've ever seen in your life.....

Also love Jeremy's rant about organic food

Yeah was bloody brillaint. Not sure if I like the Jag or the Aston more. Jag sounded better but the Aston looked better.

Felt sorry for james when Jezza lobbed his chips into the steam roller.

Jamie Oliver was alegend aswell.

Was it just me, or did they clean the graffiti off the cars with cola? It was on the camera phone bit so the quality was poor but I'm pretty sure Hammond was chucking a load about. Was a funny episode but I don't think it did any favours for the New Orleans tourist board.

Looked like cola to me too. I guess you can only use what's to hand. I know they conduct risk assessments before going on these things, but that whole Alabaman adventure just seemed like a phenomenally bad idea. Maybe they underestimated the hostility of (some members of) the public there. The fact that the paint came off rather easily suggests they took that into account.

I knew that something bad would happen, I mean, come on, a deeply Christian part of the world, and you go and paint 'Man love is not a crime' down the side of your car? You're gonna get fucking brained!

Brill episode though, funny as hell with James Caddy

I've seen an advert for the next episode and they're converting a Reliant Robin into a space shuttle :P

Why does Australia have to be so far behind the UK. I've watched that Top Gear VS rednecks clip, I though they would have gone after James, Richard, and Clarkson instead of the camera men.
Top Gear is also coming to Australia, freakin' awesome  :D

I stayed up last night watching BBC Signzone, and they showed the American Road-Trip episode of TG.  Fist time I'd seen it, and it's one of the very best.
