Futurama and The Simpsons both rule but they have to die sometime, obviously we will still have all the episodes to look back on but one day new episodes will stop being made  Anyway, which show do you think will die first? I'm talking about the 22 minute TV episodes(not the possible movies).

So they say, The Simpsons has been signed to have at least 15 seasons, we don't yet know if Futurama will get a season 5 but it probably will get many more with a bit of luck.

Will a very old show running out of ideas beat a show which has much more potential, but is less popular and is treated badly by Fox win?

Well, at the rate we're going, they're gonna need at least 2 more seasons  to get to that magic number, 100 episodes. I really don't thing The Simpsons has many more episodes left in it.

I say Simpsons would die first. It's repetitive to write, but it's pretty obvious the well is drying out. Ideas are recycled, characters are becoming predictable and stale. But the Simpsons are close to an institution in TV history, and the momentum they've gained will keep the show running at least acouple more seasons, I think.

Futurama have, hopefully, lots of seasons to come. The ideas are still new, and different. Characters still has a lot of room to grow and evolve. Plus it is a quality show, if only FOX would give it a decent timeslot.

Face it everyone, as holy a show as Futurama is, it's totally buried 60 feet under the rest of FOX's Sunday crap-o-rama (minus good Simpsons episodes). Futurama will die possibly after Season 5 or 6, not because it's bad, hell no, 'cause no one watches it. And Simpsons will die after Season 15, so I think they'll die around the same day. Hearing this, we'll all die and go to re-run heaven. (If FOX gives a damn and actually re-airs old Futuramas, unless Comedy Central picks it up, they did pick up the Critic...)

Futurama has plenty of life left in it, The Simpsons has already been on a bit too long judging by what I've heard about recent seasons.

The simpsons will die first because it has little to nothing left. Futurama has plenty of life in it yet.

Futurama will surely die first. The Simpsons is an institution now, much like Saturday Night Live. It will continue to air, and it will just get lamer and lamer, but people will watch because of the "hot" guest stars that appear every week.

I'm not sure how long Futurama will stay in production, but it'll probably be on tv for quite a few more years thanks to the way fox stretches out its supply of episodes.

Futurama will die first.  But if life was fair it would be the Simpsons first.  If life was REALLY fair, then the simpsons wouldn't suck now and it would go one being funny forever.

Futurama has to cross it's fingers and hold it's breath every season.  But the Simpsons gets renewed in blocks of several years.  Even though it sucks now.  I can't imagine Futurama's ratings really going up all that much, unless FOX does something, like actually air it, or maybe go crazy and advertise.

Simpsons will die first, because it's the oldest. But if they started at the same time, I think Futurama would die first.

Futurama may be fresh and funny compared to the dying Simpsons.  I voted for Futurama.  Because ratings matter and the Simpsons have 2x the #s and more marketable muscle than Futurama.  So even if Season 15 is Homer being run over every episode... if people keep watching FOX will keep it.

FOX tried their hardest to kill Futurama and haven't succeeded.  But sooner or later (hopefully much later) FOX will beat Futurama to death.

A bitter reality, Seeing that repeat Simpsons have stolen Futurama's new episode slot, Futurama's Future looks grim. An all too scary possibility is that no more episodes after season 4 will need to be made because so many might be left over from this year. The ratings don't look too good either maybe season 4 will be the end.

It's a real shame. Futurama doesn't quite have that public appeal, and those ratings seal its fate. Still though, I don't know what this crap is about about Futurama being replaces by RERUNS!?   :finger: I clearly saw that ad at the end of AI2, which stated that there was to be new Futurama next week. And we get a Simpsons rerun? Now *that* is starting to piss me off.
As for the Simpsons, though, I've actually been impressed lately. This season is a great deal fresher than the rancid season 9, and is kinda entertaining again. For example, in the most recent ep they brought back two one-appearance characters (Ginger and Amber) and managed to broaden their characters ina really believable way. It wasn't great, but it was a fun ep. Anywyay, the Simpsons should go out this season, but willl probably live for up to 2 years plus a movie (if they made a *live-action* Scooby movie, they gotta at least make an animated Simpsons movie- I mean, c'mon, the show's a legend). I dont think Futurama will live to season 7.   :hmpf:

Then again, who knows, they might air new episodes again if the show's rebought (hopefully not from a cable channel). Look at The Critic. Its only flaw is what Rach said, public appeal.

I voted for Futurama based on actual content rather than its appeal. It's rather hard getting lots of people to get hooked on this show when they're so fixated on The Simpsons. If Futurama had no competition from them, I bet they can last a decade. If King Of The Hill can survive 5 years, I'm sure Futurama can match that.

KOTH is a quality show, but i was surprised it lasted.

Futurama might be rebought (probably not from a cable channel), but only in reruns, I'd think. Futurama is high budget. It seems that Adult Swim has brought a couple of good shows back from the dead. They're announcing NEW eps of Home Movies (a cheaply made show, but it's the writing i love). Probably just the second season that never made it (I can't believe the animation- "Squigglevision" with no squiggles???) . The one i just saw was dated 2000, so Im not gonna question. Just wanted to mention that; we already had a Futurama on Adult Swim discussion.

The Simpsons will go up to 15 Seasons. . it could be possible for 16 or 17 but that would be stretching it.  One of two things will happen after that: 1) Simpsons fans turn to Futurama for new Groening greatness, increasing Futurama's popularity and ratings  :)  or 2) Fox will decide that once The Simpsons are gone, they don't need Futurama either and cancel the show after another season or two  :(

These are just my speculations, but lets all hope for Number 1.

Futurama is fresh and original and the Simpsons has a guest star in every episode and not as many good plot lines. Thank god for Al Jean being executive producer though. But, no one gives a shit about Futurama and it's going to kick the bucket probably after Season 5 (if we're lucky)

Thanks for resurrecting this thread, Tork. Making me cry and all. Once I get the tears and drywall and blood all cleaned up, you and I are gonna hafta have a little "talk."

Say, I see they're putting the "Simpsons" logo on a line of suppositories! They make you feel great for about ten seasons, but then you start dying slowly and painfully, bleeding uncontrollably out of your anus. The medical term for this is "Non-stop FOX."

Indeed, they shot the wrong horse. Though The Simpsons is better this year, Futurama is much more enjoyable. As a side note, how delayed are broadcasts of these shows over in the UK compared to the US?

Here in the UK Season 4 of Futurama hasn't even started yet, "Rosewell that Endes well" will premiere this month on the 24th. Season 13 of The Simpsons in the UK started about a month after the US although we very rarely get a new episode two weeks running.

Geez, that is kind of crappy. I have some cool sigs made up, but not having seen the Season 4 eps, people overseas won't know who the characters are. Ah, unless they downloaded them, but not everyone has.

This is certainly the bitter reality thread isn't it? Fox have made the decision based not on the quality of the show but and pure business rules. Viewers = Advertising = Profit. However groundbreaking it may be, Futurama is probably just too intelligent a show to gain the mass audience it deserves. And I feel a movie quote coming on ....

Why don't we just make our own Futurama episodes, after Fox cancels it?
All we need to do is write some episodes cos we already have Sarge to do all the animation, I've already written an episode which explores Leela's and Amy's mutual lesbian feelings for each other
