Has anyone heard of this show?  It was based on an Oscar winning movie with Sidney Poitier.  Carroll O'Connor was in the show version.  It was a cop show that took place in rural Mississippi.  The thing I didn't like were the sudden endings in some episodes.  Other than that, it was a good show.  Used to watch it when I was a preteen, and brag about staying up late to watch it to my classmates.  Ray Charles sang the theme song in both the show and movie.

I remember the show, though I didn't watch too often. I havent seen it in years but I remember it was an interesting show. I think I've seen the movie on a couple times in the last few years.

I remember watching the film (early in the morning, fittingly enough. Although it was quite cold rather than hot) and thinking that is was pretty good, although I've never heard of there being a series.
