I remember back when MTV was worth watching.  They had great shows like Beavis and Butthead, Sifl and Olly, Liquid Television, and the State.  They also had good songs and videos done by talented directors like Spike Jonze.  Even a few years ago they had Jackass, but now they've replaced that with it's dumber cousin "Viva La Bam"

If you have any other shows or personality on MTV you used to like or just like to talk sh#t about how awful it is now, this is your post

Although I don't watch the music channels anymore I am sure it has declined in good tv shows and good music like all channels.
Oh yeah I remember when they had a great show in Yo MTV Raps, but they finished that even though it showed real Hip Hop and not this new shit.

Hi
I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go

My job is to help destroy
What's left of your imagination
By feeding you endless doses
Of sugar-coated mindless garbage

So don't create
Be sedate
Be a vegetable at home
And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll

How far will you go
How low will you stoop
To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill

You've turned rock and roll rebellion
Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination

M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the air
Get off the air

See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their tits and their dicks
As they lip-synch on screen
There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care

M.T.V. Get off the air
And so it was
Our beloved corporate gods
Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you're too god-damn conservative
To take real chances.

Tin-eared
Graph-paper brained accountants
Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now

The lowest common denominator rules
Forget honesty
Forget creativity
The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game

But sales are slumping
And no one will say why
Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?

M.T.V.-Get off the air!

Yeah MTV is really crap now because they always show Pimp My Ride, Jackass, Newlyweds and other crap. They never show music videos all day apart from at nighttime, which is 2am.

MTV use to be cool a long time ago but now they lost it.

Edit: the only good thing they show on MTV is Drawn Together.

Yes, MTV was great back in the early to mid 90s...but "The Weasel" was on MTV at the same time. I'd rather have him back on MTV than the stuff they have on MTV now, though Pimp My Ride does have a good episode every so often. And now, MTV2 is becoming rerun MTV. Get ready for MTV3: We're Seriously Only About the Music.

Cribs is about the only half-decent thing on MTV these days, and on MTV 2 we have Jackass, Bam and Wildboyz. The "M" part of MTV sucks the most...

I'll give props to Pimp My Ride and Cribs, but that's about it. Even then, those shows are barely worth catching repeats of, no matter how interesting they may be the first time they are viewed. As for the "stoner-friendly programming" (ie, all those Jackass rip-offs and that stupid thing with the puppets), those are terrible wastes of time that may only appeal to retarded 14 year olds. I'm not some musical purist (okay, maybe I am), but I'd rather watch a crappy video than a crappy television program.

BTW, what makes me even madder is that my cable company got rid of VH1 Hits, which was the "MTV Alternative" of the digital cable set. No commercials, and every song was kick-ass. White Strips, Oasis, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Modest Mouse, even some videos I never even saw before from Sonic Youth and the Cure. So Viacom stopped producing it. Bastards.

I was wondering where VH1 Hits had gone. Damn you, Viacom. First you mess up MTV, then Nick, now VH1! Where will it end!?

Myself, I seldom watch music channels.
I used to watch Jackass and Pimp My Ride on MTV, but now, they're pretty lame.

I bet you, in the next Pimp my Ride episode, they install a PS2 or DVD player...its always the same...

When I watch TV I like to watch programs, not cack like MTV...

VERY seldomly do I see Beavis & Butthead on MTV2, and those are happy times. It does suprise me how MTV has become less of a music network and more of a teenage-entertainment one.

Entertainment?  I've been a teenager for over six years, and will continue being one for another 355-ish days.  Never have I been entertained by MTV, except I think for one or two award show openings.

Slightly off topic, but still on about music channels...

The UK's Kerrang! TV channel is a huge disappointment. It's meant to be all about todays Rock scene, yet one of the more popular artists on that channel is Eminem.

Even today, they had a 2hour music video run entitled "Rock Heroes" and about 3 eminem videos played back to back. Makes me sick.
