Anyone remember this movie? I just bought the DVD and watched it again.
I love seein' all these sweet cars, and the speed effects.

I wish I knew of more movies, or tv shows, in this same genre. Does anyone have some good suggestions or information?

Street racing, car chases, and hot women... LOVE IT!

Got it, it's alright. The cars are the best part. Try Gone in 60 Seconds, another alright movie with cars...

I like to see DaveMason starting threads.  Wait a minute... Jimmmy... Jenkins....

Ah, it's DaveMason, anyway.

As for the Fast and the Furious, oh how I love the "Super Street" culture.  Oh boy those impotent dickheads with their 20 inch wheels sure make my day.  Yep, they're real race car drivers.

You want to see some real fast cars, watch Vanishing Point or Smokey and the Bandit.  Or Bullitt.  Heh.  Yeah.  Or Thunderbolt, with Jackie Chan.  Pffft.

I saw this movie once about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty.  And if its speed dropped, the bus would explode!  I think it was called... "The bus that couldn't slow down."

Anyway, I've always thought the only cool car in movies was the Back to the Future delorean.  There are other good chases (like the truck chase in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" ) but only in the sense of the survival of the character, not the "coolness" of the car.

The movie's ok.
The story and characters are pretty stupid.
But you gotta love the cars.

Some of the best car chases ever were in Ronin (which had two good ones) and The Rock.  Coincidentally, these two DVDs sit next to each other in my collection.

If anyone's wondering, the reason this thread is still open is because I have dubbed this the Race/car chase movie thread.

Both Italian Jobs really changed my mind about the Mini Cooper.

Don't like The Rocks car chase, spoiled by the direction. Too choppy and headachey...

I've always wanted to make a movie that was all car chases.  The best excuse I could think of was to make one about moonshiners.  I guess it would be like the Dukes of Hazzard, except I'd set it in Connemara all around the hills and rocks and use tiny European cars and throw them around like toys.  No one nowadays knows how to shoot or edit a car chase.  They think they have to "get you into the action" by using handheld ultra-closeup shots, shakiing the camera like a retarded baby, and jump cutting every four seconds.  And what was with the "jump cut to Matt Damon upshifting at an inappropriate time" thing that happened every two or three seconds in the car chase in the Bourne Supremacy

Anyway, I like the Cary Loftin-style car chases the best; there's nothing better than listening to him bark the tires powershifting that Challenger in Vanishing Point, but the Remy Julienne implausible car ballets have something to recommend them, too.  The real (that is, the original) Italian Job rocks.  They say Remy was the first person ever to ride a car on two wheels.  And the motorcycle rickshaw chase in Ong Bak deserves some mention, too, if we're talking about recent movies.  I need to see that movie again.

Also: Getaway in Stockholm.

Isn't Gone in 60 Seconds (original) just basically one big car chase?

All they really care about is if it made you want to buy a Mini Cooper.  Man, I hate product placements

I unfortunately saw the movie that's in the thread title.  My brain actually has a small spot dedicated to all of its grand shittyness.  That makes me sad.

Well, I would definitely consider a Mini if I was planning a daring mid-city heist.

Yeah, but the old Mini.  The new one is way too big.
