I forfeit my bonus points. What were we supposed to spot?

It's very hard to see, but Nathan has confirmed it.

On the left hand side, the shelf under the boat on the right of the shelf, is the Catalyzer. :)

When rob made me watch the series, its one of the things I noticed.  Suddenly that scene comes on and I'm like "HEY THATS ZAC EFRON!"

Nathan Fillion posted it on his twitter account.

All signs point to it just being a 4th July party that Fillion was having, that the others were invited to.

I have seen serenity, and a few episodes of firefly. I would really love to punch FOX in the ovaries, cancelling shows i like.
Anyway, Firefly is easily one of my favourite shows ever now, i'm waiting on the series on bluray :D

So, we had another Firefly reference in Nathan Fillion's new series, "Castle" in tonight's episode. The story deals with Chinese espionage, and in one scene which takes place in a shop in Chinatown, Fillion's character starts inexplicably speaking Mandarin Chinese to the shop workers, which causes his parter to ask how the hell he learned to speak it. In response, he says that he learned it from an old TV series he used to love to watch.

Classy.

If we talk about it enough it might come back. Worked for Futurama.

What is it with networks cancelling shows that begin with F? Firefly, Farscape, Futurama, Family Guy...

I'm interested to see how the Science Channel can possibly make the layout of the worlds make sense. :) Could terraforming really make a Pluto-distance planet livable? No. :p

Yup. That was always my question. Either there is one star and the Rim planets are REALLY chilly, or there are two stars and you need FTL to get from the Alliance worlds to the Rim.

Exactly, even the intro to the film mentions that they found a planetary system with dozens of planets and hundreds of moons, not that they found several planetary systems.

To be fair, seven of those stars are helioformed gas giants. And since the barycenter of the seven protostars and the other five natural stars falls within or nearby the White Sun, they can be legitimately considered one system. Think of it this way: if Jupiter had ignited and become a star, would the Jovian moons be considered a separate planetary system apart from Sol's?

Also consider the age level the opening narrator of Serenity was speaking to. It was an indoctrination attempt on the righteousness of the Alliance, not a scientifically precise astronavigation lecture.

Xanfor, you make an excellent point. Do you think the gas giants were terraformed into stars?

Uhm... you do realise how big a gas giant has to be to become a star, right?  Yeah, and the only binary systems we know of have their stars pretty close together.  While the gravity pull on the planets makes that system entirely unliveable.  While I might accept one substar in a planetary system - even if entirely unheard of scientifically - 5?  Come on.

34Tauri(2020) was originally a quintuple system with fourteen gas giants. Seven of these gas giants were large enough that they were also considered brown dwarfs. The helioforming process consisted of increasing the density of these brown dwarfs until they reignited as protostars.

It's all there in the manual.
