That's the only direct reference I can think of.  Well, other than a cameo by a ship that looks rather similar to the XGP from Outlaw Star, but I couldn't find a good picture of the XGP to prove it.

not my list, and a few are stretching. Ultimately I say it's original enough, but the parallels are there, deliberate or coincidental.

95% of that list are tropes that have existed long before Outlaw Star.

^That's the sort of list I've been asking about for ages, and now that I see it, I can't believe that's what Outlaw Star fans have been nearly outraged by. I'll admit the two girls' roles seem mighty similar, but nothing too grave. And I'll allow myself to assume that if I were to watch Outlaw Star I'd find that the characters are very different.

While it's not a direct reference, the episode where River "merges with" the ship seems to be playing with the expectations of viewers who've seen Outlaw Star.

What do you mean, it took the entire series?  That was only the 14th episode.

Oh, right.

I just started watching this show, and it's very entertaining. It seems like a prerequsite to being a nerd is you have to watch Firefly.
Kaylee (I actually just typoed that as "keyless") is cute, and it's got a great cast. I'm only three episodes in, but it's almost like a live-action Futurama with the spaceship and the exploring and whatnot. Some great humour too.

Dad actually has it on DVD, I think I saw one episode. Saw Serenity a few times, thought it was good. Maybe I should try the show.

OK, I'm eons late to this, but I finally watched the whole series followed by the movie. And... wow.  Best... show... ever?  There's so much awesome stuff I could ramble on about, but everyone except me apparently has already known.

I'm pretty much in this boat. Now I know where Gopher got "gorram" from.  :laff:

"NASA Browncoat Astronaut Steven Swanson[69] took the Firefly and Serenity DVDs with him on Space Shuttle Atlantis' STS-117 mission, which lifted off on Friday June 8, 2007. The DVDs will permanently reside on the International Space Station as a form of entertainment for the station's crews.[70]"

Serenity was a good movie but why did they have to kill him off?! It made me sad....

Just bought Firefly on DVD, looks good in HD. Wish my PS3 was spitting out 5.1 :( Might need to upgrade.

Everyone go back and watch the first ep, and tell me if it looks like wash is pretending to hold the controls to the ship after he's just preformed the crazy ivan at the end... Odd.
