So, back on topic, The Monkey Suit aired in the US last night. How was it? Pretty good. I thought there was some wasted potential in terms of the storyline and especcially the satire, but the episode itself was funny and the characters were mostly well written (and really notably good use of side characters I thought). Not a classic, or as good as "Neverending Story" and "The Girl Who Slept Too Little" in my book, but one of the better ones this season. Too bad this next one looks like shit...and incidentally, for anyone who's interested, the guest star Mandy Moore has a brief piece on IGN (it might be from the Fox site itself but I haven't checked) where she talks about doing the show. But it's pretty insipid, so I won't bother linking it. The only thing it really reveals is that there will be some singing parts, which makes my stomach churn.

In fact, I saw several commercials for My Strummer Vacation (they were using the whole Keith Richards-palm tree incident to promote it for some stupid-ass reason). Yeah, they had it written in the TV Guide and in that newspaper pull-out "The Guide". It was scheduled in there for about two weeks and never shown.

Hmmm. Stupid Channel 10...
So, I take it from the lack (well, total absense) of comments on the season finale that it was complete shit?

I just watched four new episodes, so, reviews:
The Wettest Stories Ever Told
Crap, crap, crap. These three-story episodes always suck, and having two in one season is just way too much. Typical sort of thing I'd expect from this kind of episode, a few laughs, nothing memorable whatsoever. The writers just need to stop doing these, full-stop.

Girls Just Want to Have Sums
I really enjoyed this episode. Okay, so it took a while to get into the plot, and the ending was kinda rushed and aimless, but the exaggerated gender stereotypes were funny, and there were lots of great jokes the whole way through. Loved the Ralph abuse and Santa's Little Helper somehow sending Homer to sleep in the doghouse. The only downside was the structure - maybe some more rewriting would've helped here. Still, easily one of the best episodes this season.
A-
Regarding Margie
Hmm, pretty average episode. The premise was lame and way too similar to an American Dad episode (Francine's Flashback). Although it was handled in an interesting way at times, there were too many unbelievable, convient "quick fixes" in it. A few good jokes, but nothing that special... On a side note, the first time I've laughed at a chalkboard gag in a few years.
B-
The Monkey Suit
Perhaps the most interesting episode in theory, though I don't think it played out as well as it could have. I mean, some excellent points were made, but the storyline of the episode itself just fell apart in the second half. Loved the digs at creationism, but the episode itself was just lacking... I was expecting more from J. Stewart Burns, that's for sure.

1. Why would we need a seperate discussion threads for individual Simpsons characters and their personality tests?
2. Why post something that already got two threads closed? I think that should make it pretty obvious that it's not going to be a very producive discussion.
3. Nobody gets banned for no reason.
4. She's just a gifted child. You know what kind of exaggerated character humour The Simpsons does - I highly doubt the writers intended it at all, and nobody is supposed to read into the show this much.

I'd say that's the dumbest thing I ever heard. That list is so vague it describes every other nerd on the internet. And since when is "religiophobia" a symptom of AS?

... You're joking, right? What's wrong with Season 7, and more importantly, what do you like about Seasons 10-12?!

It's like the supposed "Seinfeld Curse". Those four people were on one of the most successful sitcoms ever, and just because they can't match that success, people say they're cursed.
The Simpsons had some great episodes, you can't expect it to match that quility, especially after 17 seasons. There's a reason why shows generally end after 8 or 9 seasons, and The Simpsons are showing us that reason. That is a rather profound way of looking at it. I am of the opinion that the show should have ended after Season 9 or 10. As a general rule, shows go down hill after they hit 10. Friends knew when to call it quits, much as I think that the show is a shmaltzy-cliche-riddled-unrealistic-people-like-that-dont-exist-in-real-New-York pice of shite, I'll give them kudos for stopping after 10 years. The Simpsons, however have been dragging their feet for the best part of 5 years, the producers squacking in every interview the usual 'no end in sight' rhetoric. We cant look to Al 'What decline?' Jean to repair the damage done by Scully if he continues to wear those rose-tinted glasses.
