It's extremely rare for a tv show season to premiere in August actually, as it's still considered summer.  They always wait until September or October.

I'm just glad that the Simpsons are starting before november this year, this way we won't have to watch a holloween episoed AFTER Oct.31

Well, uh....unfortunately, as I understand it, the halloween episode will still be after October 31st.  While the season is starting earlier, the show still won't be on much through October due to baseball coverage, and because baseball will still be in the way, the halloween episode is still set to air in early November.  So we're still getting kind of screwed over there....

From what I hear the special itself opens with Kand and Kodos accidentally creating a hole in the universe or something when they try to speed up the baseball season so the episode can start on time.

Yeah, it's a standard sci-fi idea.  I got the wording wrong though, as I didn't have it in front of me.  They actually suck up the whole universe into a vortex.

The last new episode that I saw was the Catholic episode with the Irish priest. I thought the episode was really good and Bart did look cute in his uniform. I love the bit where Homer tells the preiest about his confession especially when he mentioned about his masturbation section.

I also watched a classic Simpsons episode where Homer becomes a hippie. Hehe that episode made me laugh. Do any of you guys know the song in the background where the people were drinking that special juice and they start to hallucinate and see things?

I was trolling around for pics of what this alternate box might look like and I found some info on the Simpsons Collector Sector website.  They posted a link to the FOX UK website that shows two boxes.  According to this page the Homer Head will be a limited edition packaging for the Oct 17th UK release of season 6.  Those lucky enough not to buy one of the 50,000 Homer Heads will get the regular season 6 box pictured next to it.  It's quite possible the box pictured there is what those of us who mailed in for the free box will get.

Yeah, that's what people are assuming at this point.  It's also worth pointing out that the eye in the magnifying glass matches the one on the inner disc-case in the set, so it's likely there's actually a hole there, and when you insert the inner part the eye appears there.  Just speculation though, but the eye is the same, so it seems likely.

In fact, here's an image showing this (I have no idea where the image comes from originally, but someone posted it at No Homers):

I like that packaging quite a lot - although the Who Shot Mr. Burns theme is a tad overdone given it's an entire season boxset, and that's only one episode on it. It's like they've neglected the entire rest of the season, which is weird since there are so many fan favourites on this set...

Oh well, it still beats the shit out of the Homer Head box.  :)

Isn't the hippie ep song "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix?

I believe that was "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane.

I actually really like that 'Who Shot Mr. Burns' cover but I wish that the cover had more pictures from other episodes on it, because this is my favourite season. It also fits in nicely with the other sets.
Can't wait to get it! :)

That's not actually a bad design. Alright, they changed the style compared to the previous boxes but at least they kept the dimensions (I loathe companies which violate the DVD case standard).

So what do we reckon, maybe a week in the UK before the 50,000 sell out and I can buy a sensibly packaged box?   ;)

I've heard cast members do occassionally do episode commentaries. I've only got the Season 4 DVD, where the only episode cast members are featured is A Streetcar Named Marge, but I've been told they are more prominent on other seasons commentaries.

I've only heard commentaries on the 3rd Futurama DVD set...so I wouldn't know if they did more on Simpsons or not.. Way off topic, but if anyone's interested, Best Buy had a DVD Insider magazine deal with an interview with Billy West in it; it was in Best Buy's ad on Sunday, September 4th

Neat...someone'll have to find that and post it in GD.

To the questions, Dan Castellenetta, Julie Kavner, and Yeardley Smith all do some commentaries for season six.  They and Nancy Cartwright were all on season three as well, and Dan C. and Smith also appeared on season five.

And no, the head thing isn't one-time, at least as of now.  It's possible the reaction was negative enough that they'll rethink it, but as of now, the plan is to have 7-10 be the heads of the other family members (I think it goes: Marge, Lisa, Maggie, Bart).

While the Homer head isn't great, I can live with it. Perhaps because I'm usually so anti-nerd, but its grown on me. I find it absolutely hilarious that people would get so upset about a freakin' DVD box cover.

I think that heads image was sort of a test thing, something someone created to prove to Fox that the idea was feasable.  The designs are a little flawed (mainly Lisa and Maggie) but they'll likely be reworked.

So anyway, I hear "A Streetcar Named Marge" recently screened uncut in the UK.....um, what were they thinking?  Didn't "Cartridge Family" and "City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" get held up for a long time over there?  I found it really surprising when I read that.... if anything I thought it would become another temporarily "lost" episode, dvds aside.

Yes, like the addons in Futurama they cut, you'd think they'd keep to putting it on DVD, since FOX wants money, and gets it that way...Especially end credit songs

Well it's already on dvd (season four), which is what I was referring to.  Episodes show uncut over there all the time, so it doesn't have anything to do with dvds.  But I mentioned it because of what's going on in the news right now...it seems like an episode with that "New Orleans" song just shouldn't be shown right now.

Looks like I going to be the first one to review the new episode that was shown last night

I am always a fan of the Marge and Homer episodes and this one was really good. I like the bit in the end where Marge comforts Homer. Awww that was sweet.

Overall, not that many jokes. It was obvious that Marge would come back to Homer, because he's done just as bad (if not worse) things before, and she always came back. So this was basically a re-do of that idea, only in a different context. (And I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting tired of the guest stars 'The Simpsons' has been having. In my opinion, they add little [if anything] to the show.)

My review in a over-generalized, single statement: I couldn't shake the feeling that I had seen the episode many times before, but funnier and with less sea mammals.

About the guest stars, I would agree it is getting really old now. This one wasn't as bad as the ad made it seem as Alec Baldwin didn't play himself. If he had I probably would turn off the TV cause I tired of the Simpsons meeting celebrities.
