They should make an episode 3 1/2. It would just be ninety minutes of Vader kicking jedi ass.

Completionist syndrome.  It's why people keep buying Star Wars movies, even though the editions keep getting lamer; they want to have everything.

Right Nix?

Either that, or I was like 10.

I think that, upon seeing the Padme flashback in the latest form of Return of the Jedi, I will grace those watching with me to a flashback of Vader's NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO

Nah. They rather make some "Luke Skywalker: The Early Years" movie. It's gonna be everything nobody ever wanted to know about him. Toss in a few annoying and cudly CGI-Aliens and some unrelated reaction shots of Vader and you're done. Another Star Wars movie everybody will want see and to bitch about it afterwards...

I just hope nobody reads this at Lucasfilm.

I tend to disagree, these revisions sound like they will be a great improvement and will replace less popular ideas in Lucasfilm like a remake. Imagine how much you guys would be whining then!

Are you kidding? You liked Monkey-Sidious and the sparkling Death Star and Aldeeran explosions? You hate the much more dramatic and impactful ending to ROTJ? You find the smaller subtle changes too annoying to enjoy a movie you used to love?

I thought you people would at least be pleased by the fact that their isn't a complete remake. These changes are much better then the last and are probably going to be better then the first. You people are just too caught up in canon and are constantly worried about things changing your perspective. You people don't get that it's a fun little directors cut of a movie that hasn't seen a release in a long time. You people also act as if the changes are finite and set in stone, you can just pop in the tapes they sold only 8 years ago and watch them again. I'm sure you can also find them to rent if you look hard enough. You people need to stop worrying about what's holy and sacred and at least try and enjoy these revisions for what they are. They are a fun and refreshing way to watch the movies.

Shortround, you're a dick. My point was not that the movies are sacred and should be left alone, or some garbage like that. My point is: How many Goddamn times are they going to be revised? How many fans are going to feel gyped that the version of the films they brought a year ago has now been rendered canononically obsolete? Why change them yet again? This is at least the forth revision for the orignal trilogy, and I don't see why fans who brought one edition are going to be happy to see at least three other versions out there. How many cuts of Army of Darkness are there again? How many people own every single edition? How many people agree that the edition with the 'I'm the guy with the gun' line is the best one? That's right, EVERYBODY.    :p

Point is, the films are made, sold, still selling... so, funnily enough, these changes seem - to me - to be be a further excuse for dumb fanboys to pour money in Lucasfilm inc, for the sake of being completionist morons.

You can either be a dick(You're the bigger man for getting name calling into this by the way) and spoil everyone fun or you can let all these fans "delude" themselves with an extended cut. As for me I've been dying to see some of these scenes I have been hearing about for years. I'm not buying this out of some botched form of ownership and closure. Your just projecting your feelings on to everyone else.

I already mentioned in my previous post that canon should have nothing to do with enjoying a directors cut of a movie. I wish some people could get that through their heads that everything doesn't have to neatly fit into place. Do they really have to spoon feed you rationalities as to why Anakin is young at the Endor celebration?

I don't feel gyped at all about the directors cut. I tend not to get worked up about which revision of a fictitious story is more true then the others.

Yeah, you've been the bigger man the entire time by telling 'you people' what they really think.

I'm projecting my feelings on everybody else? How much of your post is just you telling us what you want? I'm making an estimate based on various fan communities I've observed, and what I know about people in general. What I don't see is why you can't seem to understand why people are upset when you're fine. You're too caught up in your own ideas to see a different perspective.

Personally, I don't really care about any of the Special Editions. I didn't mind the first ones that came out, though I don't ever recall whinging about the effects in the original films... what I'm rather bemused at is the constant, unending changes that seem put there because Lucas is a perfectionist. How am I spoiling anyone else's fun by not being particularly impressed with his inability to leave the films alone? I'm just saying that rather than spend my money on a series of films I already own that have only minor changes, I'll go by Sergio Leone's 'Dollars' trilogy instead. I've always wanted to see those films....

Meh, I always thought we were supposed to that in an argument. I think that is a little more socially exceptible then calling someone a dick over a movie.

Seeing as you guys are all arrayed against me, I took the liberty of addressing all of at once. Just to save time. Or shall I list your names every single time?

So I'm not supposed to attempt to convince people about my view point? I'm starting to see a patern here. I think you should stop straying away from the issue here.

I know plenty of people at the Jedi Council forums and the Millenium Falcon boards who are actually excited about seeing the original trilogy in a fun new light, imagine that. Some of us aren't stupified zombies who bitterly hate the revisions like acid, and only stomach it to see it on their DVD shelves.

Personally, I think I understand why he makes the changes. I'm one of those people who just can't leave my own creations alone. When I do any serious writing, I keep making newer and newer revisions of the same work. If I see what to me looks like a glaring error, I must fix it. Check almost any post I make with two or more lines and you'll find that there's an edit message. I realize I leave lots and lots of errors that I can't see, and I regret this. I don't know if this is due GL's insecurity, but I'm just glad I'm around to be able to pull up a chair and watch his insecurity come to life on my big screen TV.

Saying I'm a mindless and completist Zombie for purchasing something that I love and look forward to is one way. I'm no completist. I love Lord of the Rings but I only got the special edition of the movie I liked best, Return of the King(I didn't have it in the original version either, it's also a gift). I have also watched terminator since I was five and I love it to death, but I'm certainly not going to buy Rise of the Machines just as a testimate to fandom.

I'm not in some zombified haze and I don't blindly purchase every product with a Star Wars label. I have very little Star Wars memorabilia or products aside from the occasional video game or the movies themselves. I have a consciencious choice and an opinion on what I consume and I'm sure there are many other nerds out there that feel the exact same way and are unfairly labeled.

Has it been pointed out yet that that list of "changes" is actually phony and has been circulating on the internet for years?  'Cause it's true.

I think whoever posted it just added some Ep. III stuff.  Other then that, it's a very old list that didn't come to pass in 2004, and won't come to pass now.

Y'know, I thought that was way too much new material to be realistic.  Little editions I can see, but I'm pretty sure they've added all the deleted scenes they're going to find.

Well I was going to say, I mean, some of the things on that list we all knew and complained about before the first DVDs came out - although, having said that, some of those additions I would pay for - I mean, I'm not going to pay money for them again if they have only diddly little changes.
