I live in England and consequentially i'm not certain of the program's popularity, but it is without doubt one of the best-written shows I've seen on tv...
Any comments?  :)

What's the deal with the invisible monster that eats people?

Well... it's an invisible monster... that eats people. That's pretty much all anyone knows, at this point.

I like this show for the sheer amount of weird things that keep happening.
Ooo, Polar Bears!
Eek, paralysed man walks now!
Aiiie, that guy's dead father is leading him around the island!

everyone know that it is a govenment run island and they are testing them to see how they hold up in the wilderness so they can be trained by the CIA or FBI, which ever floots your boat.

best written shows?

i'd definatly say it is entertaining, but, Best written show! its more like, lets put some people on an island, and chuck some wierd things in there, who care about coherency! i mean so what if Mery saw the monster then failed to talk about it for more then a minute, and lets just put the fact that Jack saw his dead father walking around, and that wasn't talked about either, behind us.

Don't get me wrong, i LOVE this show, but i wouldn't say it is the best written show. Also, the polar bear, alot of stuff happens that doesn't get adressed again.

I think it's a bit early to be saying things like 'stuff pops up and is never addressed again.' We're, what? 6? 7 episodes into the series?

I would suggest that this plot is a slow boiler. I'm sure all this crazy crap gets explained eventually, but in the meantime, I don't think it's fair to assume that it's all just a bunch of random weirdness...

yeah i know that, i was going on a huge generalisation, its just the Polar bear thing, was about 3-4 eps ago, and that just disappeared from the plot. It will all no doubt be explained furthur down the track.

<sigh>

It's pretty obvious.

HE wrote that letter. When he was a child, a conman going by the name of Saywer stole his fathers money by using his mother, which led to his father murdering his mother, and then commiting suicide.

He wrote that letter in the hopes that one day he would find the man who destroyed his familiy, so that he could give it to him, so that he might know exactly what he did.

However, some way along the line, he became a con man, just like Sawyer, and so, in an act of pure self-loathing, adopted his name.

He freaked out when he saw the kid, because he could see that he was about to do the exact samn thing that the original Sawyer did to him. Hence, he freaked, had an attack on conscience, whatever.

Heaven forbid a show try to establish characters befire getting into the meat of the story.

And anyone seen "House"? That is the best show I've seen on FOX in a long, long, long, long, long, etc... time. I saw the guy who plays him on Leno, and was surprised he is actually British. He has a damn good American accent.

Oh, and the 2-hour "Lost" finale will air during the same time as the 2-hour "American Idol" finale. That sucks for anyone who likes both shows. What would you guys/gals pick? I'd go for "Lost".

Out of curiosity, what episode number are you guys on? I mean, i've seen upto and including 20 and I don't want to disclose any information which might ruin future eps!
Who's your favourite character? Why?

In Australia, we are up to episode 6 I think. And my favourite character, I have a few. I like Sayid, Charlie, Hurley, Locke and Jack.

Well it depends on which country you are in; each country broadcasts the show at different times..If you're in America, or you download the episodes, then you're on number 20.
Eyedol: Are you glad that it was that particular character who died? I'd rather him than anyone else!
JDB: Yeah, Locke rocks; the sage  :)
Personally, I think Sawyer is a great character; he's just so arrogant and egotistic. Plus his 'snappy one-liners' are golden  :D

^To be honest, now that I look back, he was the one character that could die, but wouldn't really affect the story.
I wonder what Jack is going to do to Locke. (On a side note, is Locke's character based on that English guy named John Locke? [From the 17th, 18th, or 19th century? Forgive me, I'm a bit rusty on my Modern World History.])

Eyedol: Well I don't know if he's based on him exactly, but I think it's where they got the inspiration for the name; it's definately a fitting choice.

Here's some background on the original philosopher if you're interested: www.utm.edu/research/iep/l/locke.htm

*bump*
Having seen most of the episodes (last two are in Azureus filtering down my DSL), I have to say, Lost is awesome.

And mods, there's a duplicate thread around, I bumped this cos it's bigger.

The guy who did Alias, J.J. Abrahms sure knows his cliffhangers.

I’ll start from here. Lost is a brilliant and fantastic drama to watch and I am really enjoying it. Jack Locke and Charlie are my favourite characters. I really like the idea were we learn more about the character to us as we go along and we see what happened in their past. I especially enjoy watching about Locke’s background were he was disabled from the start but manage to walk during the plane crash. That was one of the best ending so far. The episode in the UK is up to the bit where……

Doesn't anyone think the noise of this monster sounds similar to a T Rex or that the way it russles the trees is oddly similar to what happens in Jurrassic Park? Or is that just me? I guess I am a few episodes behind some people.

I never saw the show when it originally aired, but I caught reruns during the summer, and I have to say that this is a very addictive show. I'm just pissed that ABC is showing some episodes out of order, or just plain not showing certain episodes. It can be confusing at times.

It's still a great show.

My all time favorite character is Hurley, I liked the episode that centered around him. I think it was called Numbers.

Charlie and Hurley make a good team.

Which sucks because the ABC bastids said they'd be showing the whole season during the summer. Lying liars. So yeah, I got addicted, but I also missed some stuff. Bastards. Awesome show.

Monk: Hurley mentions that it might be a dinosaur eating everyone, and Jack corrects him by saying that dinosaurs are extinct:p

Roy Bluth: The polar bear doesn't appear only once, keep watchin'.

I want to know what those freaking numbers are too, numbers scare me more than a monster that eats people.

Yeah, but its possible they pinched the idea from Jurrassic Park. Ok, ok, unlikely, but possible. Though, I admit it would be a pretty obvious rip off, so its probably not that. What else? Ummm, maybe somebody had found away to make lions or polar bears giant, or maybe its an alien? No animal that I know can rip a piolet from a crashed plane + leave him in a tree top, or roar that loudly and russle through the trees that fast. Its weird!
