Thread to talk about the new show on Adult Swim, "The Venture Brothers." What do you Peelers think about it?

Me, I love the show. The dialogue is beyond hilarious, and so far, Dr. Orpheus is my favorite character:

"Your family is not enough. The machine craves purity...it DEVOURS purity...IT SINGS TO ME!!" *Machine's door doesn't budge.* "What the hell is this thing made of?"

Major Tom:  "Tell my wife I love her much..."
Dr. Jonas Venture: "SHE KNOWS!!!"
delievered perfectly

The best show on Adult Swim, even moreso than Futurama (which gets points docked because I've seen the episodes a few too many times).

I didn't think much of the pilot episode, "The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay," but when I actually saw a 'real' episode, I was blown away.  It's rare for a tv show to actually make me laugh uncontrollably, but The Venture Brothers can, many times an episode.  The whole "Ghosts of the Sargasso" episode almost made me pee my pants laughing (up to and including the pirates trying to retrieve the key from Brock's ass).

So yeah, great show, keeps getting greaterer.  It's too bad the majority of AS viewers like crap like Sealab or Brak.

Since I've seen all, thanks to the miracle of the internet, I'm going to rank it's short run.

1. The Ghosts of the Sargasso
2. Home Insecurity
3. Eeny, Meeny, Miney...Magic!
4. Dia De Los Dangerous
5. The Incredible Mr. Brisby
6. Ice Station -  Impossible!
7. Careers in Science

Believe me, despite the rankings, all of them are awesome, and worth checking out.

Yet another Johnny Quest parody?  *yawn*  I liked it better when they did this on Freakazoid.

At least it got that Sealab crap off of Saturday nights.

01: Clip from the episode next Saturday.
02: Clip from the premiere ep (the first one after the pilot aired back in January)
03: Opening Credits sequence - some of the best title sequence music in a long time (up there with Futurama's theme)
04: First promo ad (wait for the best kick from a woman ever)
05: Second promo ad featuring Dean Venture being...um, well, a teen.
06: Promo ad with two of the villains
07: Brock Samson Character Promo ad
08: Possibly the funniest promo ad so far.

By the way, Patrick Warburton (The Tick in the live action series, Joe on Family Guy) voices Brock Samson, and Stephen Colbert recently voiced Mr. Impossible on the latest episode.

Why is it that this cartoon reminds me so much of Ren&Stimpy and other John K. cartoons?

The Venture Brothers gets funnier every week, except for Ghosts of the Sargasso being the funniest. It's a shame it doesn't have a better spot (Like a Sunday premiere) or it eould be doing better in the ratings. It's funny, almost everyone who I talk to who's seen it loves it, but it's never in the top three for ratings.

And to the thread title, "I don't know, they just do that."

I saw this show once...it was decent, nothing fantastic, but it gave me a laugh or two. Casting Patrick Warburton as Brock Samson was one of the greatest ideas ever. That guy has the greatest voice, it's so hilarious.

This thread.. Oh.. GOD yes. This show is BRILLIANT. It's of an animation/script quality very close to Futurama, so far pretty rare for [as] originals. Ghosts of the Sargasso was.. bloody.. BRILLIANT. [The temporary tattoo gag made me CRY, I laughed so hard.]
Molotov pwns. Dr Venture is hilarious. I'm not a big fan of Brock but his chats with Hank are priceless. Orpheus and Treana[Pumpkin].. I'd like to see more of them. It's more than a Johnny Quest parody.. MUCH more. It's genius.

"Mama Venture didn't raise no fool."
"...We don't HAVE a mom.."
:both look sad.:

Hank:  "Are you a pirate?  One time my family was captured by pirates.  Ghost pirates.  And you have a Jolly Roger on your blouse."
Treana: "What?  No, I'm going for a whole retro, 'Adam and the Ants' style....did you just say 'blouse'?"

I couldn't stop laughing at that.  I too have made a complete fool in front of the cute goth girl. :sigh:

You forgot the best part about that scene:
Treana: "Crap, did I upset you?"
Dean: "Penguins have an organ above their eyes that converts seawater into freshwater."

I was pounding my fist against the floor so hard laughing at that joke...

It may be yet another Johnny Quest parody, but it is a damn fine one and besides.... making fun of Johnny Quest never gets old pussywillow.  ;)

Also has anyone noticed the boys' nightclothes, they're fashioned from spiderman and aquaman..... odd :shudder:

It is a very funny, creative show.  I liked the one this weak with impossible group.  The human flame was funny.  I never though about that it would be painfully to have flame power before that episode.  Just classic or the Orange County Liberation Front.

"I have pissed in God's eye, and he blinked."

Tonight's episode, "Mid-life Chrysallis," wasn't one of the best episodes of the show, but it still had it's solid moments.  It did contain the second joke from the series that forced me to turn my head away while laughing/disgusted, ie the Monarch 'enjoying' himself while watching Dr. Girlfriend seduce Dr. Venture.  The Monarch stuff is pure gold, and they really should revolve more episodes around him.

HELPeR eating the beakers after being told to shoot Dr. Venture in the face, WTF?  Stupid robot.  And the subplot of Brock losing his License to Kill was about as predictable as The Venture Brothers can get.  Still, it's worth a watch.

Christ, man, even when the show's slightly off it's still damn hilarious.

My new favorite line:

Hank: "C'mon, Brock! Your training starts NOW! When I get through with you, you're gonna eat lightning and crap thunder!"

where did they find the writers for this show? I salute AS for finding them.

EDIT:
we also gotta cut the show a little slack. These are only the first couple of eps, hence they're not exactly gonna be all perfectly hilarious.

Yeah, and they're shown out of order.  The scene in which HELPeR hugs Brock is seen as a flashback in "Home Insecurity," which was the 3rd episode aired.  The actual scene wasn't shown until tonight, which is like the 8th episode aired.

Well, tonight's episode does give more weight to a theory I heard on the [as] messageboard, re: Dr. Venture and the Monarch's relationship.

Tonight.. not so very good compared to others...
But there were several lines/scenes/happenin's that made me smile.
The whole eating lightning thing.. And when Helper hugged Brock.. and Rusty in his skivvies[never a bad thing to me]..
The Monarch and Dr Girlfriend RULE and I want to see them more often! [Monarch's certain.. scene.. XD]
Venture seems to me like a very young Farnsworth. Maybe with extra cynicism in place of eccentric genius.

That "scene" with the Monarch is even creepier if you read the [as] boards, where there's a theory going around that The Monarch and Dr. Venture are long-lost brothers.  So, basically, the Monarch is getting off to seeing his girlfriend make out with his brother...

Hank: "Can we listen to it?"
Brock: "No.  Zep sold out on that one."
Hank: "Wanna listen to it anyways?"
Brock: "No, that tape has memories..."
Hank: "What kind of memories?  Was it playing when you killed a bunch of ninjas, so whenever you hear it it makes you think of ninjas?"

I think [as] already announced a date for the Venture Brothers DVD set.  I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.  I hope it's a good one, because I'd like to see more than one season of VB.

nothing is known about the season 1 set other than it will be out in fall 2005.

EDIT: Oh, evan, the brock losing his license subplot is either taken from the flash game on the AS site, or the game took the idea from that episode.
