At the top was C-3PO

Quote
In third place was Crow from the series Mystery Science Theater 3000, while R2D2's mechanical companion C3PO was fourth in the Amazon.co.uk/IMDB poll.

At number five was robot Number Five, the star of the 1980s science fiction comedy Short Circuit.

Its fairly impressive to tink Bender is that well known. But also think about who beat him, and who came after him.

3PO is famous as hell so its fairly certain we would come first. But I've never even heard of Mystery science theatre 3000 and number 5 from short circuit is a fairly obscure reference. Its got steve Guttenberg in it for gods sake!

Although then again, R2D2 came in third. So perhaps ....

I dont know what I'm talking about.

Oh. O.K.

I think it's sort of a surprise since I thought the T 800, T 1000 etc, Data,  etc. would be better known and thus more popular.

Androids are robots.  Not all robots are androids, though.

To be fair C3PO and R2D2 are andriods as well. That's why everyone calls them droids (slang term for andriods, I assume) in the Star Wars movies. I think it falls under the square-rectangle thing as David A said.
