"Who are you?"
"Scruffy, the janitor."
"I've never seen you before."
"Scruffy's never seen you before, either."

He first appeared in "A Fishful of Dollars," giving Bender a good polish/buffing.  He then was in "Hell is Other Robots," wheeling the Beastie Boys on stage.  His first major appearence was in "Parasites Lost," he was the second person to be impaled on the sword in AoI, and had a cameo appearance in "Luck of the Fryrish."

He also gets a lot of panel time in FC#5.

Nix had just pointed out a number of appearances Scruffy has made on the show. And then you post "Is he a characteron the show now?" I'm sorry, but that just strikes me as the question of someone who can't be bothered to read the thread before he posts.

That I thinked was weird was this I read in a Futurama Comic by FishyJoe:

hermes
That’s a very good question! And it segues perfectly into my next line of discussion. Now, as we all know, our janitor Scruffy is in the hospital.

The gang reacts with surprise.

Leela
What?

Amy
Oh no!

Bender
Unbelievable!

Fry makes a weird, spitting/razzing type noise with his mouth.

fry
Excuse me.

bender
Oh—sorry.

Bender hands Fry a drink. Fry takes a sip and spits it out, to show his level of surprise.

hermes
Well, now you know that our janitor Scruffy is in the hospital. That means we all have to pitch in to keep this place spic, spif, and span in his absence.

bender
Wait, so we have to do all of this jerk’s work, while he lays on his ass in the comfort of a fancy hospital room?

fry
(mourfully)

It’s what Scruffy would have wanted...

Fry begins to cry.

And...............

fry
Man...life sure does suck when we’re not watching TV or playing videogames.

bender
Why you insensitive bastard! How can you talk about watching TV at a time like this?

fry
I was talking about NOT watching TV. And don’t get snappy at me, Bender--Scruffy was my friend too.

bender
Yeah, well, he was my BEST friend.

fry
(hurt)
I thought I was your best friend.

bender
Yeah, but only when Scruffy’s not around.

Fry sighs.

*********************************************

Its sound like he has a big role in the show now. I hávent seen si much episodes, so I got confused

Mark -

I haven't seen this comic, but I think it's just a joke playing on what a SMALL role Scruffy has on the show.

Marcus.

It's just an extension of that joke in Luck of the Fryrish where Fry says "I haven't told anybody...not even Scruffy!".

Scruffy never does anything, and usually the characters don't even know who he is. It's just weird/funny that Fry would act like Scruffy is his highest confidant.

i still think they should do an ep where Scruffy is a serial killer. In murder mysteries its always the butler or the janitor, and since they don't have a butler......

When he appeared in Anthology of Interest I wasn't that a major appearance?

Umm . . . I'd say no.  It really had no bearing on the plot.  Now in Parasites Lost, it was a major appearance, because he should have been fixing the boiler thingy, instead it exploded and impaled Fry.

Either that or I just got my episode order confused

If the criteria is to have bearing on the plot, then he really hasn't had a single major appearances. If he wasn't there in Parasites Lost, the episode would have proceeded as normal, with Fry and Bender fixing the boiler thingy-doodle.

I would extend major appearances to any time he speaks or is talked about whilst on camera. That would include AOI and Fryrish.

More like Groundskeeper Willie.  tongue They should give him his own episode one day, and then forget about him for a few weeks. Just like most of the supporting characters in The Simpsons.

Thats whats wrong with the Simpsons. All your fav supporting characters haven't appeared in a long time. They're going overboard with Celeb's.

But Scruffy does need more facetime, except for the fact he's really only got one bit. Scruffy bein' gruff.

They could do an episode where Scruffy discovers a second emotion, like the one where Bender gets his emotions from Leela. Or something.

Prof. Farnsworth could give him an emotion. That's what being a scientist is all about.

Scruffy was also in Birdbot of Ice-Catraz.  He's one of the Penguins Unlimited members just fixin' to shoot penguins.

Marc, any information on AL1/AL2 in future episodes? From what I've seen on the two latest, they was nothing at all.
