My vote's for mutant.  It kinda goes with my theory that mutants kick butt(Just look at Dark Angel!  ;) ) and it makes for a great LFR storyline.  She'll be all upset and crying and who but our favorite 20th Century slacker to give her a shoulder to cry on? Hmm...
"Lemme be the one you call;
If you jump, I'll break your fall,
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night.
If you need to fall apart, I can mend a broken heart.
If you need to crash, then crash and burn.
You're not alone."
Hey, no sarcastic remarks about my taste in music!

But surely she'd know anyway, shes had surgery on her eye in the cyber house rules, so she has been checked out medically.

Hopefully this question will be covered more in season 4 along with more romantic entanglements with Fry   :)  :)  :)
OMG!Do you write for the show!!what a guess!!

The first time I saw a picture of Leela, in spring 1999, I thought "mutant human".  Then Matt Groening went on about her being an alien, so I forgot about it.  Damn shame, otherwise I could have a good brag.

Even if she is a mutant she's still unique.(Actualy it can be said that each mutant is unique, but...) As when she was born the doc said she was the least mutated mutant ever, thus: unique.

[Heroic Enlightening Voice]
But in truth are we all not unique? Are not each of our minds and bodies different? then can it not be said that All living things a equally unique and wonderous? And if so Should not... [/Heroic Enlightening Voice]

I really don't know what she is, but in one episode in season 4 she met her parents. And they were mutants. But I don't know...

Except for the reason they left her, that was damn accurate.

I guess most of you have seen the episode "Leela's homeworld" by now.  If you haven't, I won't spoil the surprise.

Btw, if this is so, why isn't this thread closed yet?

She's an alien mutant. Watch the episode again. The eye thing isn't a mutation acording to her mother.

Uh, not really. She just said, "No extra anythings." She said nothing about the eye, just that she didn't have like extra arms or legs and stuff. And also, how come you know Leela's parents' names when they weren't even said on the show?

What's her mother's name? (too lazy to look it up  )

Anyway, I think that both her parents had one eye and purple hair suggest that unless they were brother and sister (yuck) that they belong to a much bigger species of purple haired cyclopses.
Although if they are brother and sister - the mutation that happens usually may have actually reversed and left them with a relatively normal baby.
Worth a thought, if you understand what the hell I'm going on about that is.

What? You're too lazy to go to TLZ.

BTW, very nice work, I like the new fanart you submitted, particular the Jedi-one.  :D

At any rate her parents are named Turanga Munda and Turanga Morris (Turanga is apparently their family name).

Someone should fix that bio. In the begining it says Turanga is her sur name, then at the bottom says its her first name?!

Well, that was posted way back when fans were still debating the one-eyed purple-haired mutants in the background of one shot of I Second That Emotion. (I remember getting cursed out when I mentioned that to someone who was completely in love with Leela and the "lost-alien-orphan" thing. He probably quit watching the show after Leela's Homeworld. For all I know, that person could be Hitchhiker!)

Although "Leela's Homewrold" is one of my favourite episodes, I still think the alien angle had more posibilities. We already know the "culture" of the mutants. Imagine if we had an entirely new civilization to explore with Leela.

Besides they never really cashed in on the looking-for-her-homeworld thing. No biggie, as long as we get to see her parents now and then, just like the Wong's show up in acouple of episodes.

doesn't that require the show not being cancelled? I don't think Leela's parents will be in any of the remaining episodes...   :hmpf:

Tho it would be cool if they were    :D

I actually shouldn't have thought so - if he were refering to "Leela's Homeworld" the mention of parents would ruin the suprise for everyone.

We pretty much ruined for ourself. People had it pretty much worked out a long time before the episode aired. The cameo in "I Second That Emotion" was enough. Plenty of theories was put forth, but the mutant/parent one was predominant. I was in the minority.  :(

when Sarge said we would see Leela's parents again "Leela's Homeworld" had already aired. He also said that the scene they were in was very funny. Her parents didn't really do anything funny in "Leela's Homeworld" So i think its pretty safe to say that we will see them again next "season"
