I just saw episode I second that emotion. When mutant sing about el chubanibre(?)and When camera goes up you can see another female and male bicyklops standing left corner. Are these Leela's parents? What do you think?

Leela is the sole survivor of her race, she has never really met her parents. And she comes from another corner of the galaxy, so I don't think that her parents may live just around the corner down in the sewers.

Well I always wondered about that one myself Alien or Mutant.

If she is a mutant her parents may have gven her up at birth so she could have a normal life above the sewers.

But surely she'd know anyway, shes had surgery on her eye in the cyber house rules, so she has been checked out medically.

Hopefully this question will be covered more in season 4 along with more romantic entanglements with Fry  :) :) :)

I don't think she's the result of a mutation.
Mutation usually happens over several years/generations..

it's not like nature decides to give mankind another eye on the back of the head to avoid them having to turn around to see what's going on behind them - and does so in one generation..

It might be a nice idea, though   :p

All the stuff from the Leela's parents was probably a Matt groening's joke...

That is weird that there were those other cyclops in the sewer.  I bet she's a mutant, or her kind dwells in the sewers and her parents didn't want her to grow up that way.  Who knows.  I hope we find out sometime soon.

Call Leela what you like, a mutant or a Alein, I'll call her a human because she fits in with other humans

According to Futurama Comic #1, she's an alien. I'm guessing the two cyclops in the sewer were a Matt Groening joke, in the style of the Simpsons clip show. I would like to know for definite, though.

Yes, she is an alien.  I did actually hear/read about an episode where she discovered another member of her race... but that may have been a rumour or something...

Guh...the other member of her race was just an imposter trying to get some hot mutant/alien sex.

Leela just assumed she was an alien, just like some orpahns assume their parents aren't deadbeats, and had a valid excuse for leaving them. I'm putting my money on mutant.

In "The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz" Bender recognizes Leela as "Human" when he reboots. Terefore, Leela must a human mutant or an alien race so close to humans that Bender's bio-scanner can't tell the difference.

I agree with fishy. Mutant. That explains why her parents leave her (freak!), and that explains why shes never found another cyclops. She just assumes shes an alien.

according to mankind, anything thats not human-like is an alien, like illegal immigrants  ;) (jk!) (besides other animals ans plants that were created here  :p) so most of the universe in the future is made up of mutated aliens...theres your answer  :p

I'll have to go with alien. First of all she said so herself in "Space Pilot 3000". And what Leela says, goes.  :)

Second if she was a mutated homo sapiens her physical examinations would have revealed it. If she gave her specie as alien to the "Fate Assignment Corps" and it was later discovered that she lied, she would have been fired.........out of a canon.........into the sun.

Until proved otherwise I think Leela is a Mutant.

My theory is that she was told that she was an alien, when she was at the Orphanarium when she was little, and she's believed it ever since.

There some sort of proof towards the human/mutant side of the argument with these two framegrabs, the cards don't help that much, but there's enough for me, her internals are a little bit too close to human for my liking.

Also in an interview Billy West (Fry) said "I'd like Fry to have a relationship with an Alien Space Babe and not have an Office Romance".

Two ways of looking at this:
a) The Office Romance refers to Amy and Leela is the Alien Space Babe.
b) Fry works with both Amy and Leela, so the Alien Space Babe must be another character, meaning Leela is human/mutant.

On the parents aspect of this, I've tried to clean up the framegrab, the female cyclops has purple hair and a ponytail, plus wouldn't you like to see what your daughter has developed into, after you abandoned her all those years ago?

Leela tells Fry in the first ep that she is an alien, but I would agree that she looks a bit too human to be an alien..compared to all the other creatures in the series

If Leela thinks shes an Alien, of course, she will say to Fry that she is an Alien.
Leela cant know about shes an alien or not, she cant remember her birth.

Mutant... for all the reasons listed here and so many more that will no doubt come out later.  That way you can come back here and see that I knew it all all along  :D

Frankly, i think that if she isn't a mutant, its one of the stupidest bunch of mistakes the writers/cartoonist ever made.  I can't see things like the sewer shot being a mistake, i'm sure there are people to edit and ok things like that

Can't she be both?  I mean, who sets the real definition of "mutant"?  Compared to humans, she's "mutated" - so call her whatever you want, alien, mutant, ya know, whatever.

What if you were adopted but didn't know it?  You would say "These are my parents" but they wouldn't be, they'd just be some random people who adopted you.

i hope shes an alien. Because its already been established that shes not really accepted by people and i would prefer to think that she does have people somewhere that would accept her and treat her as normal because to them she would be normal. otherwise its just depressing. Her life sucks enough she should at least be allowed the thought that shes not just a freak throw-away human.

Hmm, the mutant arguments are beginning to sway me, although I agree with Venus, I'd rather she was an alien. Then she'd be original and individual rather than a human cast-off. She could think "Well, Im different to you guys, screw you all." If she's a mutant she's left thinking "I'm an inferior version of you guys." Poor Leela. She deserves better.
My guts has changed it's mind and says mutant, though, despite that.
