Why does Leela always turns her back on fry?

Why cant Fry and Leela be together?
They really like echtother, so why cant Leela accept Fry?  frown

Sitcoms thrive on tension between characters. Whenever two characters finally resolve an issue that gave the show tons of laughs, that's the end of a good show.

It wont ruin the show if they make Leela and Fry to a couple.
That could actually be funny

Yup, exactly what Sarge said.  If they we're together, the viewer rating would be booming, but then after 2 episodes it would be low.

Maddie & David, Joel & Maggie, Lois & Clark... once the sexual tension breaks, that's the end.

That is some of the plot of Futurama, and the "excuse" that they give is that Fry is not ready to grow up yet. In short words: He`s to much "teenager" (or something)
¨The problem is that Leela want a real man, but don`t like Fry`s thoughts on life and stuff.

the only time leela was interested in fry was when he had those worms that made made him smarter, stronger ect but then fry had to go and make an idiot out of himself...

i always hear people saying that shes regects him because shes on a high horse and thinks to highly of herself, but i think thats ridiculous. As insecure as she is about herself theres no way she would regect him for that reason. She wants a man whose husband material. She obviously wants kids, that was made pretty clear in cyberhouse rules. All she wants is someone mature that she can have serious conversations with and raise a family with and as long as Fry is more of a child then a man, then its perfectly understandable why her feelings about him would be mixed. She does like him, shes admitted to that and yes obviously theres an attraction, but you can't build a solid relationship on physical attraction alone.Don't get me wrong, im a Fry/Leela shipper and i love all the moments between them and im positive they will get together eventually. But i can fully sympathize with leela, theres no point in trying to make her the bad guy and blaming her for not getting with him, he still has a lot of growing up to do.

The way I see it, it wouldn't totally destroy the series if they were a couple.  I mean, look at Everybody Loves Raymond.  That show thrives off of the central idea that two people care about each other enough to get married and have kids.  And it consistantly ranks as one of the most watched TV shows and was nominated for numerous Emmys!  I don't think the show needs to head in that direction, but I'm guessing that about half of the posters here think that it will eventually happen or be implied.  Maybe in the last season, which I'm hoping won't be for a while.  It's like the season finale, should-have-been-series, of the X-Files where it's revealed that Mulder and Scully did have a thing for each other, and our suspicions concerning Scully's baby were put to rest, as we now know that Mulder's a sperm-donating dad.  If Fox hadn't demanded another season, I think that would've been a wonderfully fitting conclusion.  But we're not talking about the X-Files, we're talking about Futurama.  So, if the writers decide to make us wait, at least keep dropping the hints and if you make them a couple, let's hope it's not as predictable as "Friends".  It'd be so depressin to hear Fry screaming, "We were on a break!"  love

Everybody Loves Raymond is slightly different than a science-fiction cartoon.

Yes, the only thing Fry should do is to show Leela how much he loves her.
And grow up a little, of course

...But Leela can influence Fry, and viceversa. Fry doesn't need to grow up so much, and he can talk seriously sometimes. I think it's just a matter of time, Leela can't do this to Fry!!

She does like him, it's obvious, but maby she's holding off in case she finds another cyclops.  If/when she does.  Maby in the series finale, the very very last episode, (which hopefully won't be for about 10 years) she'll find out that either she is a mutant, or she is THE last cyclops and give up searching and accept Fry.  That's what I think.

I hope they don't bring Fry and Leela together. To make them interesting to eachother would ruin their unique personalities.

Although he is in his mid-twenties Fry is nothing more than a big teenager, and thats what makes him funny. He and Bender is just trying to have a good time and basically goof off. He may go out on occasional dates (as with Amy) or try to hook up with a girl on The Hip Joint (Loves Labour...), but he is not interested in a lasting relationship. Ofcourse he is interested in Leela (he is a guy after all), but I think he has settled down to the fact that they are just good freinds. And I like the Fry I see now (Around "Lesser of two Evils" ): helping his freinds, goofing off, being the perfect foil for Bender and yet still pretty innocent to the world of 3000.

Leela, well I always liked Leela. She's an independant strong-willed woman that binds the Planet Express together and makes sure that the jobs is actually been done. She is funny because she takes everything as it comes and nothing seems to give her pause or scare her (well, except waking up beside the Zapper, but who wouldn't be shocked by this. I know I would  smile) She is not as physically funny as Fry, her strength is more the verbal side of it, and especially when reacting to some of Fry's goofines. She likes Fry and probably considers him a very good freind. Since she is such a serious person (she was after all a cop once) I think she likes the fact that Fry makes her look at life with more childlike joy, for example the scene in the moon lander in "The Series has Landed". And she was really touched by Fry's attempt to by her a gift in "X-mas Story", it made her feel a lot less lonely.

But I hope that they will never be a couple because that would ruin all theese fine things in their freindship that I see developing. Differences can strengten a freindship, but if they are as fundamentally opposite as Fry's and Leela's is they could ruin a relationship (and here I'm speaking from experience   cry ). If Fry should be "mate-material" to Leela he had to become much more grown up, and then I think his chracter is ruined.

And just to forestall the obvious response:

I know: It's just a cartoon. But I like Futurama very much: it's funny, it has great characters, pretty good stories and the background jokes is sometimes just too hillarious to handle. So I would be displeased if they very trying for something that I felt could ruin the show.

But if it was the absolutely, certified, cross-your-heart-and-hope-to-die last season/episodes of Futurama ever, by all means go for it if thats what is naturally.

Okay I'll stop now.  wink  big grin

i think it would be great if they just made Leela and Fry be together in one episode.. just one... it is clear they both have feelings for eachother, sure mayby Fry's feeling are a bit stronger but still

Just as a hint, this is not a fast-moving board.  Expect about one response per thread per half-hour, often less depending on time of day and interest factor of the thread.  Hell I shouldn't even be posting right now, I'm at work.

Anyway, because I'm nice and you're obviously bored, occupy yourself with the FAQ

If you're really thankful, then please start typing in English.  I'm writing this to demonstrate the use of the Edit button, and to congratulate Teral on his very well-thought-out and in-depth post from four years ago.

Fry is stupider and hass less to loose, Leela is smarter and more successful, so she needs to work harder to find the perfect guy, However they are both extremely desperste, so it's only a matter of time, maybe even a love scene for the movie
