Is it just me or does anybody else here really dislike Leela? I just seem to think she is really unfunny and although I agree she fits in to the show and sorta belongs, I wouldn't complain if there was less and less of her.   :evillaugh:

I personally don't find her too funny, but I believe she belongs there. She's the only serious part of the whole show. Remember, "part of being human is having.........moderation."

True she's not that funny but because she is so serious it is funny when she swears or something like that. e.g.
"We can't u bastard!!!"
"I want to enroll, my friends always die if I'm not there to save them"
So yeah, she's no Fry or Bender but without her, Fry & Bender probably wouldn't stay alive for 2 seconds and it wouldn't be Futurama.

Of course Leela is not funny. Bender and Fry wouldn't be funny, if there were noone to make them look stupid. Think about it.  ;)

She's isn't funny (usually). That's the point. She's the straight man (or woman, as the case may be). Most comedic duos have the straight man and the funny guy...

Remember 'I, Roommate?' With Fry and Bender recreating that odd couple scene with the umbrella and the cigar? Well, unlike the traditional comedic duo, they are BOTH the funny guy, as that scene illustrates brilliantly.

Leela's main role was to be the well-adjusted one (or was she? hehehe...) who had to pull the others out of trouble now and then... because the others weren't competant enough to do so themselves. And to stand around and look pretty... :P

But she still had her funny moments... particualy once we realise she's only a few notches above Zoidberg in the pity stakes. (Main difference is she's too proud to admit it).

Basically, she's an integral character, and woe betide those who find her character superflurous! I'll smite thee with righteous fury I will!

How dare you! Some of the Leela-isms are the best! For example:

'If we're all done being stupid, then...'
'I don't mean to sound negative, but NO'

She's a hell of a lot funnier and more useful than that Amy creature, anyway.

Don't know about that, Leela definetely made me laugh more consistently than Amy (don't hurt me, Kryten!), then again she does have a hell of a lot more screen time and my viewpoint might be (excessively) skewed.

Basically I agree with everything SlackJawedMoron said. And the first part of "Love_For_Leela's post.

And in a dark brown voice she said, LEELA! L-E-E-L-A, Leela! Lee-Lee-Lee-Lee-Leela! Bah-bah-bah-bah-bah-bah-bum! Dee-dee-dee-dee, dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dum. LEEEELLLAAAAA! Bah-bah-bah-bah-bah-bah-bum!

If she wasn't in the show, Zapp wouldn't be nearly as great.

I guess he would just have to compete with Kif for Amy.

And while Leela is not the funniest character, she is essential to Futurama.

Leela is necessary for the show, despite being an unfunny character. On occasion she has good lines, though.

Leela isn't that funny, but she does have a purpose.
If Fry hadn't meet her,we wouldn't have so much romance in the show(Amy & Kif have their share, too.)Leela belongs and should never unbelong.

Hey Woodbot, this is a futurama board yet you can't even spell futurama? I'd double check ya signature if I was you.

And as for your not so much romance without Leela comment, I reckon that's a brilliant idea! Less romance! Woohoo! Down with TV romance! Up with senseless violence and comedy!

^Second that.  In a sea of silliness, she's the serious glue of the whole damn thing. And by far the most complex character.

I always compared her to Marge from the Simpsons. She's the responsible one who keeps everyone in line or in some cases alive.

But she enjoys having a good time every once in a while. Remember in "Route of all Evil", she is as excited to get drunk and make beer just as much as Fry of Bender.

I gotta say I think I find Marge funnier than Leela. Yeah I know Leela is important to Futurama, I never said she wasn't, I just said I REALLY dont like her and it annoys me to see...well...never mind.

And as for "Route of all evil", can't say I've seen it so I wouldn't know.

Your criticism might carry more weight if you hadn't spelt "Futurama" with a small "f".

I gotta say I agree, without Leela, this show would cease to exist. She's a good character, and has some funny lines on occasion. But when they started basing episodes on her ("Leela's Homeworld," "A Leela of Her Own" ), things started getting rocky. It's like episodes centered around Marge. They work, but both characters aren't funny enough. "Bicyclops" worked because of Fry, Bender and Alcazar, and "Birdbot" worked because of Bender, Fry and Zoidberg. But with the first two I mentioned, there was no one to fall back on. "Leela of Her Own" was partially saved by Hank Aaron and the Cygnoids, but "Leela's Homeworld" was just an abomination.
All and all, even though she's not the funniest character, Leela rules.

I find the Bender-centric episodes to be far worse than Leela ones. The only two which I like are Godfellas (which is AMAZING) and Hell is Other Robots.

I think I might kick off now.

How dare you! Leela's homeworld was a great episode! *ah, so sad!*. I think that the Bender-age episodes are chronic, but I feel that away about most character-based episodes, (particularly Ziodberd. Oy, Glayven) with the exception of Leela and Hermes. Who rule. So scuh-rew you!

Leela based episodes are the worst! (With the exception of A Bicyclops built for two)

I love Zoidy, Hermes and Bender based episodes. Fry ones aren't bad either. Amy ones and the Professors ones, however few they are, are still good. But Leela episodes make me   :puke:

I'll admit I don't really like Leela. She seems to be the only serious character on the show, and I'm not really one of those 'shippy' fans who love emotional episodes.

I think that without 'shippy' episodes Futurama would be much worse. They are an essential part of it, and they make Futurama something bigger than just a sci-fi parody serial.

if you ask me Leela is essential, as Fry fancies her although she is a cyclops. If she was not in there then Fry would fancy Amy. And we can all understand that (cant we?) So I think she is the reason Fry does half of the things he does and says.

Fry fancying with Amy will not work.  She will quickly agree to date with him ( of course, if that relationship will start before KIff+Amy thing) and that coulnd't be the theme of many episodes, unlike Fry+Leela thing.

I think watching Leela in some of those shippy episodes is like walking into a concrete wall over and over again. For some reason nobody can understand, she won't accept Fry for what he is. It's like she's determined to be a bitch.

I don't know, maybe the writers wrote that in to get a bigger audience reaction. Common sence would say that Leela going out with the biggest jerks (though Doug wasn't  :D - just vile) but still considering her standards too high for Fry, the only one she knew really felt for her - though he had difficulty expressing it in a smart way - as stupid. And everyone went around saying it.

Pehaps it was (the writers writing) Leela secretly deliberately playing hard to get, forcing Fry to really work before Leela felt she could settle down with him in any form of relationship. If you felt something for someone, and knew they felt something for you, but when they try and make a move what they say/do actually insults you, you'd naturally say no. You'd want them to improve their methods of trying to impress you, otherwise they may never learn.

Mr. Paxxer
Futurama is not all about comedy. All the characters dont have to be funny.  Leela is an individual and that might be a good thing.
Unless u think she is weird because she only has one eye.

That's only funny because of Fry's following line: "I have more, but you go ahead."

Leela is nessessary to set up jokes and move the plot, but isn't very funny herself, which is one of the reason's she not one of my favourite characters.
