This shall be a thread for the times Leela and Fry almost made it, the times they were almost BOTH in love with eachother, the moments Fry would have been happy with the outcome.
thoughts, comments, and/or questions?
or just talk about what you think should have happened, when it didn't between Fry and Leela.

At the end of "Parasites Lost". I had a grudge against Leela after that episode because I'm very nerdy and pathetic and I love Fry so much, and it made me sad that Leela only loved him after he got worms. And the end, when he made that crude but adorable Leela picture with the holophoner was  so sad when we knew that Leela didn't feel the same way. :-(

Ah a 'Shipper' thread. I agree with 3/4 Jesus, Leela is very short-sighted when it comes to Fry's feelings for her.

Another tender moment is at the end of 'Love and Rocket', when Fry touches Leelas hand and they smile at each other.... then along came Zoidberg to ruin everything. Oh well.

At the end of The Sting i was so touched that Fry would wait by her side for two weeks even though he had been told that she was never gonna wake up. Those two weeks must have been a living hell. I can't even imagine what going through something like that would feel like. I don't think i would have been able to handle it.

He was so relieved when she woke up you could see it in the look he gave her right after Amy said her last line.

And you gotta wonder just how much longer would he have been willing to wait for her. A few more days? A few months? Years even? That's devotion on an amazing scale.

This seems as good a time as any to ask, what does "shipper", "shippy", etc actually mean?

Even relating back to the season 1 eppisodes, in 'SpacePilot 3000' when Leela took the chip out of her hand and touched Fry's hand, I thought there would be something between the two of them later in the show.
Also in 'A Flight To Remember' they were SO close, same with 'X-Mas Story'    oh well

I know it's already been answered but I can't believe you didn't figure it out by context clues.

I got the general idea, although I thought it was something more along the lines of just generally slushy.

Xmas Story. While they were under the missletoe, if stupid Robo-Santa had waited like five minutes than I wouldn't of mind him trying to kill them. But I don't remember once hearing Leela tell Fry "I love you". He told her like three or two times but we mnever hear her return the favor. What does that mean?

well, she did say "I love his boyish charm... but hate his childishness" or something like that, I think deep down she loves him... just Fry needs to know how to take that and produce something with that.
It looks like he succeeded in 'The Devil's Hands Are Idel Playthings'... but we don't know where it goes from there.   :(

I'm undecided on whether Leela really loves him, although I think the fact that she was willing to give up her hand just to hear Fry's opera says more than words ever could

i don't remember ever hearing her say 'i love you' to anybody. Maybe she just has a hard time saying it. After all she has been mistreated by a lot of people.

Yeah but Fry loves her sooo much that he would dare mistreat her.

of course he wouldn't, but she doesn't know that for sure. She thought Sean loved her and he hurt her.

Maybe Leela really is the ravenous killer she was in AOI 1 deep down and loves no one.

The teases (Flight to Remember, X-Mas Story) were by far and away more fun to watch than Fry being completely and totally pathetic.

Well, they seemed more truthful and spontaneous. I think a lot of Fry's being pathetic seemed like forced writing and it ruined episodes like Love and Rocket.

'Love and Rocket' was amazing I thought.
I think Leela saw Fry in a new way after what he did for her.  :)

I love Zoidberg but again, if he had waited 5 minutes before he popped up at Leela and Fry in the end! Dammit Zoidberg! No one has the paticenes to harass them before they kiss! God!

Hey, if Zoidy hadn't popped up, it would have made that ending Waaaay too cheesy.

"And it couldn't have been better unless it was Valentine's Day. What? It was? Hooray!"

Don't forget the subtle shippiness in 300BB, where they're seen together at the aquarium ("Bye Fry and Leela...whoa!" ), and then when Fry saves her first, and tenderly carries her outside. Awww

Absolute best near-miss moment.  Followed closely by A Flight to Remember.

My point exact. Never in a good light have Fry and Leela have kissed. Only when they were alone.

Bollocks. Love And Rocket was one of the best shippy episodes, although it did suffer from nagging Fry syndrome a bit. That's the thing: I enjoy shippiness when it happens more spontaneously and naturally like AFTR, Xmas Story, Parasites Lost and The Sting. But when it's just an episode of Fry begging Leela to go out with him, such as TKOS and TFP, then it seems too forced. Love And Rocket I can forgive because of the payoff at the end and also when Fry replies "Yeah, I know" in response to Leela's "Fat chance", it makes Fry seem that little bit more human and realistic with regards to the situation.

I think it was when he was looking for candy hearts that expressed his feelings for Leela.

I remember Leela saying "Fat chance" but I'm not entirely sure Fry said "Yeah I know".

I seem to remember him saying 'yeah i know' too.  Although I really am too tired to go and watch the episode now, which is the only real way to know for sure.

I just checked Love And Rocket and Fry definitely says it:

Leela: I can't concentrate with all these obnoxious candy hearts in my face!
Fry: I'm on it! And maybe I'll find those magic words while I'm at it.
Leela: Fat chance.
Fry: Yeah, I know.

They might've cut it for time when they originally aired it or something, but it's definitely there.

i went back and rewatched that portion of the tape, and that 'yeah i know' sounds an awful lot like  "ehh, no"  It was a response to the heart he was reading not having the words he wanted, not a response to what Leela had said.

Nah, I kid, it's still a cool episode. But my point remains that shippy episodes work better when the relationship aspect feels less forced.
