Good point, EspanolBot.  That fact that FOX haven't carried on Futurama despite it's obvious popularity in terms of CN ratings and DVD sales suggests one of two things.  Either FOX are really, really dumb, or their reasons for cancelling Futurama aren't financially motivated.

I'd believe both.

Maybe they hate MG for some bizarre reason? Jealousy, perhaps?

As happy as I am for the succes Futurama have on CN, we have to remember the C in CN stand for Cartoon. Meaning that the people who watch Adult Swim are allready cartoon-fans. Transfering the ratings from the Adult Swim audience to a general segment, such as the one that watch FOX, isn't as straight-forward as we would like it to be.

And as far as I've heard the Futurama DVD's are making good sales, but not Family Guy numbers (why, only the Gods know).

It's kinda typical how everything I like goes to hell.  :)

Sure, I think Family Guy and The Simpsons are hilarious, (not the newer Simpsons episodes tho, ffs) but they can't even compete with the attraction of Futurama.

1. Woo Leela_19 has an avy similar to VelourFog's....!

2. If anybody but Katy Segal voiced Leela, it would be so wrong....

3. Futurama will not return....

It won't affect the ratings unless you have a ratings box thing(?) attached to your tv.

Well, I beg to differ. Family Guy is coming back on right? So how'd they get the numbers for that? Here in Ontario, if you have satellite or digital cable, the ratings thing is already in the reciever...but I'm not too sure what the deal is for le states.

Yeah.  :(

Maybe we'd have been better off petitioning for another network to pick up the show, rather than trying to persuade FOX to rethink their decision.

maybe, but would any other company take it seriously. sure its a good show, but thinking from their viewpoint, it cant have been that good if FOX let it go. the only companies possibly thinking about picking it up would be obscure ones, probably unable to pay the estimated $1-1.5 million an episode. i cant think of anyone like NBC, or ABC taking it up when they can invest in prosumably less costly animations. also, if another company did take it up, first it would have to pay FOX compensation to release the contract(which im unsure about the existing length). the only upside to the show from a buyers point is the fans, but are there enough to justify:
a) a multi-million dollar buyout of the show
b) the production costs
c) fitting it into a tv schedule.

petitoning may be the way to go to attract attention to it for another firm, but i doubt it would make enough attention to convince a firm to pay that much money.

sorry i went on so much. my replys arent normal this long but i got into a thing then i couldnt remeber how it ended.

So buy Futurama DVDs, keep it on your TV when it airs, and who knows. I'm sure stranger things have happened.

I agree! The DVD sales are number 10 on Yahoo.com right now.
