hmmm, the Finglonger is a popular and obvious choice but I'd choose his big machine that makes glow in the dark noses.

On the subject of the Finglonger, the Professor may have thought up the basic concept for it but not worked out the difficult scientific concepts required to build a working model - you've got to give it a really long finger and everything. He hasn't invented it until he can solve all this (If this isn't the case then I could invent a time machine right now) and so he could merely have thought of the idea in AoII and invented it sometime between then and BBoIC.

And some more inventions:

The electric frankfurter (HHRHGB)- A sausage containing a powerful electric generator capable of fatally electrocuting anyone who tries to eat it. Useful either as a hilarious practical joke or as a time-saving device if you happen to be the chef on death row and someone asks for a hot dog as their last meal.

Fast cars, trendy nightclubs and beautiful women (ACoMO) - Not really much to say except that he invented them.

Cubert (ACoMO) - Annoying miniture replica of Professor Farnsworth. Didn't turn out the way he expected him.

A pointy rock tied to a stick (MD) - A hard, roughly conical object is attached to a wooden pole of moderate length through the means of a length of twine wrapped around the stick but not the rock for some reason.

Reanimator (The game) - Device capable of creating an exact copy of a person the instant they die. Conveniently invented shortly before the crew starts dying repeatedly.

The finglonger is easily the most useful of any of the inventions.. Now, if only he had invented it...

The video about his life in Mars University says that The Professor invented fast cars, beautiful women and trendy nightclubs.

Crap Prof Wernstrum beat me to it. Just ignore me.

I wouldn't mind having a What-If machine. I really want one of those.

You forgot the most important PE ship feature: the Lion!
No ship would leave he Hangar without a Lion onboard.

He thought up the idea, but he did not build it, therefore did he invent it?
My uncle comes up with ideas, and does nothing with them, then some time later, someone else builds them, so who invented it?  My uncle who came up with the idea, or the person who built it?

Whether or not he thought it up is not sure. We see him using it in the Bird-Bot of Ice Catraz, but the debate is whether or not someone else invented it and he wished he had done so, or he later invented it himself, after the first AOI episode.

Another attempt to explain the What-If Machine:

The What-If Machine, when posed a "What if" question, generates a video simulation of what would happen, more commonly known as a 'Tale Of Interest'.
There are several ways of generating a response from the machine, including winding a handle, pushing the left front button, pulling a string, burning wood to produce smoke, and pulling down a leaver.
It also comes with a narrator making a comment after the Tale Of Interest.

Here are some of my theories on the video simulation:
  • The What-If Machine shows an alternate reality where everything is exactly the same except for what the question was about.
  • The What-If Machines reads the questioner's mind, and from that information it is able to predict what would happen.
  • The video simulation is just randomly simulated events that relate to the question.

Well nevertheless, AOI was a great episode.
