Amy is as cute as Leela, but Leela is definetely cuter. And I wouldn't give a damn about the sweaty boot rash. I'm sure there's medication that can cure it. (Plus, I think Leela just made that up. The only reason that Amy agreed with Leela, is because Amy is a bitch.)
Leela has more depth to her character. That's an automatic point. She's sexier than Amy, in more revealing and/or sexy outfits, and always has cleavage.
And, she's naked more often. (Hey, it's true!)   Plus, she can be pretty cool at times, can protect you, and you can actually have an intelligent conversation with her.
AND, Leela has 100 of the possible 150 votes, and an overal percent of 66%.
What now?!

Shippy Mandy: Amy also has a good body, I'm not denying that. It's just that since Leela has more depth, and she's shown more often, and she's in provocative(sp?) positions and clothes, she seems sexier to me. (I watch that "Obsoletely Fabolous" scene over and over.)

Well, that's circular logic. "Leela's shown more often because she has more depth." Do you know WHY she has more depth? Because she's shown more often! How much depth is Amy going to develop if she gets two or three lines an episode, or no lines, or doesn't even appear?

Let's face it, Amy could've been a much better character than she was, if the writers hadn't marginalized her.

As usual, I agree that Amy was underused and poorly written (intentionally so, I'm sure, I just don't know why.)

I still have to go with my girl Leela, though.

Oh, and I figured out Amy's hair: it's actually a two-dimensional rip in the space-time continuum, held in place with copious bobby pins.  They're cosidered trendy hairpieces in the 31st century.

Your opinion is a logical paradox? I'm very much a Leela fan as well (see my post on page 4 of this very thread--oddly, it starts with a statement that's very similar to the one I just took issue with), but if Amy is as cute as Leela, then Leela can't be cuter than Amy. And from her short appearences we've seen her relation with her family; her old man-eating habits replaced by going out with Kif (and it seems they didn't shag for a long time after, or at all, which is a new development for Amy); her sister-esque interaction and bond with Leela; her growing more confident in her job since her first ep; her gullibility; and how she reacted to the idea of being a mother.

Quite a lot of development- imagine how much more she could've got!

In my opinion, Leela is cuter. If Amy was shown more often, she'd be a boring character. She's not as funny, or interesting. She'd have to be shoved down our throats, and that's not a good thing. (And as I have said before, Leela's sexier. See "Obsoletely Fabolous".)

and by that, i mean i was directed to this thread by eyedol, only to find out i voted some years back. my post is about halfway down page 3.

but seriously, leela is just a better character. sure, amy's more attractive physically ( even i can't deny it.) but leela is much more well developed woman. and i don't just mean that we know a lot about her background!

Leela is easily the least funny character on the show.  (She isn't really supposed to be funny.  She acts more as the straight man for the other characters.)  Leela is certainly one of the most interesting characters on the show, but she's more of a serious character than a funny one.

Amy is actually pretty funny, when they bother to actually use her as something other than part of the scenery.

 

Please give three examples of what Amy said and/or did to make someone laugh out loud.

1. "Aye-aye, captain. I mean only one eye. I mean, yes sir. Um, ma'am."

2. Bashing herself in the head with the electromagnet.

3. Cursing at the claw machine in Chinese.

...and those are just from her first episode.

Her klutziness goes dry very soon. Yes, those moments very funny, but not laugh-out-loud funny. Those are more like snickering moments.

But overall, Leela would contribute more to the show than Amy, even if Amy was given adequate air time. Think of it like this.

You had to axe either Leela or Amy. Who would you axe? Amy obviously. Even if given a chance in the show, judging from the history we have seen about her, she seems like a flat character.

just wondering, if Amy is meant to be cuter then Leela, and i mean she is MEANT to be cuter not in my opinion is cuter, then why do they chose Leela to play the slutty Mcneal lawyer? i always thought that they would use Amy because she is more clutsy.  or am i missing the point of the Mcneal character??

Because thye knew they needed someone competent to actually act.  Besides, Fry had never seen but 30 seconds of Single Female Lawyer.  Most of the women he watched on TV can be summed up in seven words:

Jeri Ryan, Roxann Dawson, and Kate Mulgrew.

For those of you who don't recognize the names, (and I'm sure at least Teral will want to add to the list) the point is that Fry was a science fictoin nut, who was used to seeing strong yet also ridiculously attractive (see Jeri Ryan) female leads.  So, he naturally went to the more authoritative of the two women he had available for the lead role.

I'm not bringing up the fact that he simply likes Leela more, because I don't know if he made up his mind about that until Put Your Head On My Shoulder or so.

oh! okay now i get it. well while i'm here i think i'll add something strange about leela that i couldn't get out of my head whilst watching season three earlier today.

in 'the cyber house rules' i thought that leela looked really wierd with two eyes.  i know that this is pretty obvious but when i thought about it i coudn't help but think that the character of leela was so well done that after the first episode i had become accustomed to leelas one eye.  and even though two eyes is the norm and should seem fitting it just didn't.  for that reason i think that the character of leela won my heart because although she should look wierd, because of her depth we,the audience, seem to except her more as a cyclops then as a human. 

i don't know if it was just me who thought that that was interesting but i'll post this anyway and hope you agree or put another interesting point across

I'm pretty sure in the commentary that someone (Maybe DXC) said that by that time the animators were so used to drawing Leela with one eye, that it was hard to try and draw her with two.  I do agree that we are all so used to seeing Leela with one eye that it, in essence has become the norm and her with two eyes (which is the norm) doesn't look 'normal'.

Leela's a winge, bitchy, YES, she's bitchy too. I know she has reasons and blah blah blah, but whatever I prefer Amy. Amy is sexier. SHE IS SMART! She is just a ditz. Personally she's kess annoying than Leela becase she doesn't constantly be picky over guys. Leela is more shallow than Amy. There...I still like Leela but she's just not the one out of the twoI would say is more 'sexy'.
