Simply Zoidberg

I looked through the entire Human Resources Dept and didn't find any threads asking: What do you think of Zoidberg? I found that kind of odd. And I really want to know what everyone's general opinion of him is, considering he's my all time favorite character. Anyone who has been reading my posts (I'm a newbie) may have noticed I like him a bit TOO much, but that's besides the point. So yeah, I like him. I think he's the best character in the show and everything he says he's funny and he's cute and this is like the worst run on sentance ever. *Takes breath*

So what do all you Futurama fans think of him? Do you think there should have been less of him? More of him? Did he have enough character development or not enough? Was he funny or just annoying? Cute or gross?

I think that we should have seen more of Zoidberg, but he definatley should not have like...taken over the show or anything. Just more of him would have been nice. A few more episodes just about him. His one liners are great, but I think there are too many episodes where he just has one thing to say and otherwise just mingles around in the background.

I think his character development was just perfect. No more or less was needed, we got to know everything we needed about the guy without letting the show get too revolved around him. He started off as just a weird looking bad doctor but slowly we began to learn that he's poor, eats just about anything, is an "inferior male specimen", and longs for companionship.

As for him being funny, I think just about everything he says is funny/cute, and absolutley nothing about him is annoying. And for being cute, I think he's cute a lot of the time, and sometimes just plain disgusting...which is hilarious! Wouldn't change it if I could.

So anyway...yeah, what do you all think? I don't know if he's a commonly loved character or commonly hated.

I love Zoidberg as well!  It would've been nice to see him a little more, but they seem to have worked on this in later episodes. I love just about everything he does and- surprise, his first name is mine as well! Zoiberg's character development was good, and I found all of his episodes to be extremely funny.  In a way, I think my sig says it all:

He's not my favorite character in the show but he's defenently the funniest, i might even go so far too say that he's the funniest charecter EVER.
A poor,starving,juish,lobster doctor, that alone is pretty funny.
I think they used him well in the show, but a bit more episodes with him involved like Bird bot of ice-catraz would have been great

Zoidberg was great for adding a quick one-liner type joke to the script. 

The only funny Zoidy-centric ep was WMIBACIL.  Anything else where Zoidy was front and centre wasn't very good.

Yeah Lobstertainment was disappointing and mabe a few more Zoidberg episodes would have been better. He was definitely one of the funniest characters though but not my favourite.

I love him. A little annoying at times looking back, but overall he had some awesome one-liners and it's fun to laugh at his patheicness. He is very lovable as well. 

All in all, Zoidy is my third favorite character.

Zoidberg is definitely my favourite character. He was used the right amount in my opinion.

The episode with Freedom Day, where Zoidy ate 'Old Freebie' was his best front and center episode, IMO.
Agree with y'all that he is one of the funniest characters on the show (along with Bender and Fry, Zapp, Kiff, etc.)
On the whole, I feel he had a fair amount of lines and screen time.

Wonder who could eat more free donuts -- Homer Simpson or Zoidberg?

Zoidberg is indeed a great character, he does need the other characters to work though, while most of the P.E. crew could carry off a scene on their own with support characters, i'm not sure Zoidberg could. Please give me examples if you think I am wrong.

I agree.  One of the reasons he's such a funny character is because he's just so sad and pathetic, a point that was driven home by the abuse and neglect he recieved from the other characters.  Well, that and the fact that he was poor, and ate garbage.

I liked him as a character...not one of my absolute favorites, but definately very funny.

I love Zoidberg. But I don't think he's great as a central character (That's Lobstertainment and WMIBACIL were a bit average) because I think one of the most important and characteristic things about him is that he doesn't get enough attention. I think that if he was developed any more as a main character, he would lose a lot of that patheticness that we love him for.

So I think it's great that ol' Zoidy is basically a one-liner. One of Futurama's biggest strengths is that even if the plot is shocking, there are bits that make you want to roll on the floor in fits of laughter  . And Zoidberg is a main part of that, and in my opinion that's where he fits best.

Zoidberg....One of the funniest characters in a tv show....ever....
His name is funny, his voice makes me smile, his "awwwww" is so adorable heh-heh

I haven't seen every ep yet but I think it's safe to say Zoidberg was used well....I agree that he was best used as a supporting character for the other to laugh at and make fun of....When he was the main plot point he didn't seem as funny (Roswell being the exception)
Whether that was coincidence in the eps that were centered around him I don't know....

Anyway, I love him....end of story 

A spin-off series would have been cool...

Zoidberg is funny because hes like a little kid and doesnt know any better The most funniest thing that zoidberg did that made me laugh was in "kif gets knocked up a knotch" when amy left kiff at the baby shower and u heard this baby crying (thinking it was kiffs baby blablablablablahblahblahblah. ....) and it ends up to be zoidberg    

i dont know why but i cracked up for like 10 minutes

I think Zoidberg is the funniest character overall but not my favorite. It's just fun to laugh at other people's misfortunes.

Besides, he obbiously isn't Jesus, he is Zoidberg.  However, if you are implying that a fictional cartoon character is the messiah, I am doubtful.

Zoidy- annoying, stupid, idiot- love him.
Maybe he's not a stupid idiot, but he does behave like one because of his lame-ass human doctor education. Part of the joke, of course. He is one of my absolute faves.

When I look at the stuff I wrote above, it dawns on me that I'm not very coherent right now...

 I think it is meant to be ironic that he is meant to be Jewish but being a shellfish he is not kosher, apparently. On this weird internet thingy called Wikipedia they seemed to think that that was the underlining joke of the character.

I think he was used in the right fashion.  I espically liked the way he was used in such episodes as "Roswell that Ends Well", "How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back", and "The Bird Bot of Ice Catraz" he wasn't the central character in those shows but just the way he works himself into situations. 

Zoidberg: "Leela, Fry, Robit, no matter what your doing tonight, I'm available." (HHRHGB)

Zoidberg: "Such a man! I'd follow him to hell and back, I would!" (Bird Bot)

Professor: "And the alien they captured was.. was…"
Zoidberg: "Hello!"
General: "Ewww!"
Zoidberg: "So, what are you guys doing tonight? I'm up for whatever."

Zoidberg: *snoring*
General: "What is your purpose here?"
Zoidberg: "All right, officer. I'll move along."
Man: "What the General means is: Why did you come to earth?"
Zoidberg: "Not a not a day goes by I don't ask myself the same question." (roswell that ends well)

I saw that yesterday when checking my site's Google rating.  Though 'Futurestock' does make it obvious - "Sorry, no shellfish" when not being allowed into the botmitzvah.
