'cos they're hip and trendy!!  Nah...I dunno, that's actually a good question.  They only bring it to light in space pilot 3000 and Episode two:the series has landed.  You bring up a good point which I must ponder over for several days...

Maybe it's because he goes to sleep often.

I have returned from my endless hours of thinking...well, not endless, but...
My idea is that he is just too senile to remember to get dressed...

When it was a one-man business (after his previous crew were killed) it was probably easier just to scamper around in his PJ. When he hired Fry/Leela/Bender force of habbit or senility probably was the explanation.

Then again, with Farnsy's modern opinion of modesty, he probably just don't care.

Welcome to PEEL, cages321. Enjoy it here.

The explanation for the slippers was that he was senile, so I guess the same explanation still stands fof pajamas.

Welcome to PEEL, cages321.

Ah! The professor. Why don't we broaden the discussion? Don't you just love the incredible aggressiveness of the professor's tone sometimes? It must be representing crotchetiness in old men. I think it's great.Oh, and welcome to Peel, cages321. I suppose I can wlecome you, even tough I'm STILL only a crustacean. What does a guy have to do around here to become a Bending Machine?

I had more or less forgotten that the professor's wearing his pajamas. I have always thought of it more as a lab coat. Perhaps it functions as both?

I think his lab coat looks EXACTLY like his pjs...

Or maybe he's too senile to make the difference.

It's true that I usually don't get dressed if I'm staying at home for the day. It's good for the sperm count, you know?
That is normal, isn't it?

Oh yes. The professors sexy passive-aggressivness. As said in some other professor thread "I love it". He's a kind man although as all oldies should be he is negative and senile. And the shining positive moments as best seen in "Xmas story" when he is naked and hughs Fry. Oh my yes.

Why do I keep imagining Farnsworth on Gilligans island?

I can just imagine him making a doomsday device out of coconuts and monkey skins.

GILLIGANS ISLAND
Prof: Good news everyone...

Skipper: What is it professor?

Prof: I've created a weapon so powerful that it could potentially destroy the entire solar system and...

Skipper: ..and you've also finished the repairs on the ship so we can leave this island?

Prof: Oh my, no. The idea of a ship travelling on water is science fiction nonsence!

Skipper: But we came here on...

Professor: SCIENCE FICTION NONSENCE! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to find that monkey that took my doomsday device. He owes me 15 bananas.

Skipper: You mean you sold a weapon that could potentially destroy the planet to a monkey?

Professor: Well, he did make me 2nd in command. When the time comes I could potentially become the new monkey king!

etc etc. That sucked I know.
Just thought I'd share anyway.

Thank you mazaite.
I was worried that there would be an endless number of people telling me how bad it sucked.

Of course it could use a bit of Gilligan.

There was some comment in the commentary for AOI2 that the characters in Futurama correspond loosely, not only to the Wizard of Oz, but also to Gilligan's island, so it makes sense, sort of.
