I remember a moment in "The Why of Fry" where we maybe learn something unexpecting new about our fantastic Leela.
Fry (future) and Nibbler are sitting under the desk near Fry (past). They're discussing.
I think it was like:

Nibbler: You're the only one who can fight against the brains.
(... some words later ...)
Fry: (...) Leela.
Nibbler (mysteriously sounding): Leela, yes ... she's (maybe) the other one

What does this mean?
My first idea was about Star Wars. When Yoda talks with Luce and mentiones that Princess Leia is the other one (means Yedi).

Does that now mean for Futurama that Leela is maybe also (a little) immune against the brains? Or that she is (like Leia and Luce) in any way related with Fry? Well, they are for sure not sister and brother (like Leia and Luke) but ...
Any other ideas?

This has been discussed many times, but I do think it's Leela.  Remeber, in TDTESS, she's the one who informs Fry of the brains' plan.  Also, maybe it's like destiny or something.  Hell, I don't know.

Fry: "Leela, but she doesn't think much of me."
Nibbler: "Then she must be the other."
Fry: "Wha?"
Nibbler: "You must not give up on her. blah blah..."

Too bad we never heard the Nibblonian prophecy itself. But I as far as I understood the prophecy never included any names. Just that there would be "The One" and that there would be "The Other", which seemed to have some sort of relationship.

Thank of for your attention.

Yes, those bastards...

There was a thread dedicated to this topic before, I think by Olivia or someone.  There were most likely other threads before that on it.  And I'm sure it's been mentioned in the review thread for TWOF.  Check it out.

Was it Jedi or Yedi? OR? Or Yedar? In the German Star Wars it's called Yedi. Those are the good ones.

It's Jedi.
And I also have this nagging feeling that there's something *more* to Leela's involvement in the Nibblonian prophecy, which is supported by the following quote, stating that it's not over yet:
"Fry: Well, if you ever need a savior again, just ask."
"Nibbler: Oh, we will. We will."
The story is left untold from here on, as this is something we should have found out in 5ACV or later...
It makes sence, too. Matt Groening(?) said that while 4ACV18 isn't exactly open ended and was written as a possible series finale, it certainly doesn't tie up all loose ends.

It is spelt Jedi, however I was playing Jedi Knight II in German and they clearly pronounced it "Yedi".

I thought Nibbler meant Leela when he referred to the "other".  However I don't think Leela's immune to the brains.  She didn't seem particularly immune in TDTESS.

And I doubt she's related to Fry.  That would just be too wierd.

Imagine if you will in 5ACV and Leela has actually fallen in love with Fry and then Nibbler tells them that they are related, and so it becomes the latest in a series of events designed to keep the two of them apart.

I think that'd be a jump the shark moment.  Once they find out they're related, where do they go from there?

Yes. That would certainly be a series ender moment there. Besides I get the hint they're supposed to procreate. That would defeat the purpose.

I would scream if that were true, but there's not a chance.  It's obvious to see that the Futurama creators set the whole Fry/ Leela romance up way before any suspected it.  Actually, there is the slightest chance...

nah, couldn't be.  They wouldn't do that to us.

I hope you're right Futurama_Hil. I can see so many things that could go horribly wrong, but I just hope they get together. Somewhere along the line in the finale I have a feeling that somebody is going to have to lose a soul, and somebody is going to sacrifice themselves to save another... *sniff* it's already making me sad. God I need to get my hands on SWG -_- .

So what if they're related? Fry conceived a child with his grandma, so why can't he marry a girl who's Fry-genes have been dilluted over a thousand years?

Fry and Leela being related(hopefuly not brother and sister!) is undoubtably IMPOSSIBLE!
1. BOTH have diffrent parents.
2.Leela has one eye(Buh!).
3.Leela was not impervious to the huge brains.
There. The series finale should not end on a note like that. The writers are too smart for that. Besides, they're aiming on a good note, not bad.
Oh and Fryvilous, if some one I care about in the series finale dies, I'll be crying too.

What's wrong with your reasons:
Having different parents means NOTHING.
One eye could be a genetic mutation (guh!)
She isn't her own grandma.
Yup.

It's possible that they come from the same genetic strand, but their relation would be so distant that it wouldn't matter. I don't see how (or WHY, for goodness sake, WHY) they'd work that into the story.

Uh...in something that's slightly related to this...

...is anyone doing a virtual Futurama season project anywhere?

If not, why not? There are HEAPS of shows getting that treatment these days - I think it started with an X-Files project that just caught on.

If so, where, when, and any spoilers?  big grin

Yeah, some of us have started a Futurama virtual seasons project, which we called, oddly enough, FuturamaSeasons. Been running for about a month now, and we're still sort of "setting up" - we didn't begin "official production" yet, although we will soon. Our website is still in its "pre-release" form, so if you're interested in finding out more or joining, visit us at our forum.

Hey, add the number of eyes Fry has and the number of eye Leela has, and you get three.

The Nibblonians have three eyes.

I know where my mind's going with this and I'm having trouble accepting it even as the remotest of remote possibilities. (Probably because my mum's asleep and I don't want to wake her with my screams. I think Fry screamed it best in Roswell That Ends Well, but it wasn't exactly the same situation as the one I'm thinking of now.)

Could Fry and Leela be the origins of the Nibblonian race, or could I be insane due to the fact that it's nearly 1:00am?

Where have you been, Fishy Joe? That child was his father!
I very doubt about Nibbleonian origin theory.Writers maybe have wild fantasy, but this....
And even Nibblers quote was very confusing. Maybe he was wrong and "other one" is Scruffy :-). Perhaps my own wild theory would involve some "Munda Nibbleonian kidnapping/genetic manipulations" and future protection of Fry or that with Kifīs tadpoles.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.  It's like saying that because both my parents have two eyes, I'll have four eyes.

I DO think that Leela was the "other one" Nibbler was referring to - but I don't think it was a hint they were meant for eachother or anything. I think Nibbler deliberately froze Fry at that time for a reason. After all - if he had been frozen any earlier - he wouldn't have met Bender (who played a vital roll in Fry's getaway from Leela) and if he had froze him any later that day - he wouldn't have met Leela (keep in mind that I think Fry was her last unfreezing for that day, as she said she wanted to make it quick so she could get to new years celebrations). Now - the freezing moment would have had to occur within 30 seconds of that time so Fry could have met both Leela and Bender, right?

Now - let's keep in mind that if Fry hadn't managed to escape that far (thanks to Bender bending the bars), he probably wouldn't have convinced Leela to join Planet Express. Now, what does this have to do with Nibbler's comment? Well, look - almost every time Fry has almost died, it's been Leela who saved him. If it wasn't for Leela - Fry wouldn't have survived. I think Nibbler refers to Leela as "the other" because she is pretty much Fry's protector, and the rest of the stuff I brought up pretty much explains why Nibbler would have had to have frozen Fry at that moment.

So, basically - I don't think Nibbler's comment had anything to do with Fry and Leela's love life or anything - I think it was simply because Leela is the sole reason Fry hasn't died yet. Although this is just some theory I've come up with - it does make sense. Perhaps they were planning to explain it later on, but until I see proof of that - I'm sticking with my "Fry's protector" theory.

Maybe it will be explained in The Devils Hands Are Idle Playthings, considering that seems to be the only unaired Fry & Leela heavy episode left. Damn... this post went on quicker than I expected. Oh well, at least I've shared my little "other one" explanation here.

Actually, that's areally good point.  I did think she was Fry's protector or something.  And I think just by coincedence he falls in love with her.  So, yes, I think you're right.

That's also his job I do believe. While it is apparent that Leela saves him more often than Nibbler, Nibbler's speciality is working in secret. Let's not forget, he did give him a flower which Fry gave to Leela. I don't think the future depends on them getting together, but it may be beneficial. Of course, there's always the chance Nibbler was lying and giving Fry false hope. Although, it's not as if the relationship isn't a possibilty.

Beamer, that's a good theory.  A damn good theory.  Although we see in Why of Fry that Nibbler has no knowledge, so it does assume that the Nibblonian's prophecy was unusually specfic for that kind of thing. But hell, who am I to say it wasn't?  Unfortunatly, "Devil's Hands" aside, I don't think they had time enough to really go into it before FOX pulled the plug.  It does seem like a Futurama-style thing to do though, doesn't it?  To have Nibbler say later on: "You thought that... You and... Oh, no, she's just your guardian.  Sorry to lead you on."

Well, out of the 5 episodes remaining - Devil's Hands is the one that's most likely to explain what he meant - and that's IF it gets explained before final cancellation. Keep in mind that Devil's Hands was made with the thought in mind that it might be cancelled, so that'd be a good episode to tie up any loose ends with Fry or Leela (even though they still left the ending open for continuation).

Leela would now if they are related. In SP3K she told him who his living ancestors were, and Prof. Farnsworth is the only one. Also, Leela may not be immune to the brains, but she was a lot more intelligent than the New New Yorkers in TDTESS. (or seemes to be)
