In the first picture, bender is standing slightly in front of fry and leela, plus his legs are bent. Fry has very bad posture, if he stood up straight hed be taller than leela. Leela has good posture and wear big boots.

Old topic but I figured I'd post this since it's one of the better pics showing how tall characters are in relation to each other

Don't we assume that the characters are all relatively close to 6'?

This problem of who's-taller-than-who can be disregarded when you're a freak of nature like me who's barely five feet tall--to me, everyone on this show is a giant, regardless of their relative heights to one another.

On that note: although my backseat-animator knowledge tells me that they like to keep heights consistent (that whole "so-and-so's this many heads tall" thing), that's rarely the case. The only thing I've noticed on any continuous basis is that Leela is always taller than Fry, what with her boots and his bad posture.

I think Fry and Leela are just about the same height.  Leela is slighty taller.  Bender is slighty shorter without his antenna.  And let's not forget Bender can extend himself!

Fry - 5' 11"
Leela - 5' 12"
Bender - 5' 9"
Hermes - 4' 10"
Amy - 5' 2"
Zoidberg - 4' 9"
Farnsworth - 3' 4"

Those are my guestimated heights for the characters.

Thread Necromancy...Hooray:)

Anyway: I just watched "The devils hands are idle playthings" again.
When Leela stands in front of Fry, touching the robot devils hands, he looks quite a bit taller than her.

The "How to draw thisandthatcharacter" on one DVDs special features mention that Fry usually stands a bit bent (making a little hunchback), while Leela does stand much straighter. So Fry should have some "height reserves" left...

In "The Robot Devils Hands", Fry is standing rather straight, and his taller size creates the impression of Leela literally looking up to him (fitting the scene). Might be interesting to check wether Fry is taller than Leela/straightening up in scenes where the character is more active, and being slightly smaller than Leela/back slightly bent when the character is rather passive/bored/uninterested (which should be the case more often, explaining why Leela looks slightly taller than Fry in the majority of scenes, but not all).

Ummm 5'12" ???
And I think you're a bit off on most of those.
Generally, women are between 5'0" and 5'8" I would guess Leela to be on the taller side, and Amy a few inches shorter. Fry is about average. But we know Bender to be over 6 feet at least.

Well Leela is a mutant, and she seems to have different hormones/metabolism to normal humans, so it wouldn't be suprising if she was tall for a human female.  Mind you her boots do have pretty thick soles.

Maybe in the future everyone is taller?  We are supposed to have been taller then we were a thousand years ago.

It always striked me that Fry is the tallest one, followed by Leela and then Bender. Anyway, when Fry's casual posture is slouching, Leela always walks/stands straight.  Shun Fry's slouch and you get yourself the tallest. Fry. Also, doesn't this prove anything ?

Does the shower scene from Bender's Game give a useful comparison of the character's relative heights?

Nah, I don't think it gives somewhat accurate characters relative heights, not with that rather tricky angles and camera pin-ups. Unless you count those first frames of that shower scene, then maybe yes, Fry and Leela looks about same height.

Well..that shower scene is pure nonsence.
Leela standing naked in front of Fry, doing shaking movements, and he constantly stares at her FACE? C'moooon...I do know Futurama belongs to the fantastic genre, but some things just lack all credibility...  :nono:  :laff:

But to keep the intellectual (:D) jokes aside: One picture give also an intesting size comparison:

Asuming both characters keep the same distance to the wall, Leela's and Fry's head should have the same distance to  the tile lines. I did mark the upper tile line black, and you see Leela's head -unlike Fry's- does not reach the line.
Also...when we follow the "line of sight" from Leela's eye, her pupil is about the same height as the lowest point of Fry's eye/the middle of his nose.
Supports the "tall for a woman, but still a bit smaller than an average tall man" theory.
When putting Fry with average 180cm, I'd say Leela is about 174-175 cm.

In stocking feet -

Fry: 5'9"
Morgan Proctor: 5'8"
Leela: 5'7"
(Both Morgan and Leela appear about the same height as Fry when in shoes boots.
Allowing 1" for sensible work heels for Morgan and 2" boot boost from Leela's boot soles
compared to Fry's tennis shoe soles.)

Amy: 5'4" (Top of Amy's head usually about as high as top of Leela' open eye)
Dr. Cahill: 5'2" (Dr. Z is just a bit taller than Amy but he is a couple inches taller than Dr. C. in BBS.)

The tallest human woman in the show is LaBarbara, isn't it?  She towers over most of the cast.  Hell I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't one of the tallest characters period (after Barbados Slim) I actually wouldn't be surprised if she turned out to have some Amazonian DNA in her.

Here's an older thread on the subject that may be of interest.

Personally, I still think it's somewhat subjective.  The character's heights relative to each other are not consistant from scene to scene, much less from episode to episode.

If Hermes is 5 9, then Lebarbara must be almost 6 foot five or maybe more.   She towers over him.  (Has anyone got a picture of her standing next to any of the other characters?)

Again, I think its possible that the characters are actually much taller then modern day humans.  We are supposed to be a few inches taller then our pre industrial revolution ancesters, and we are supposed to be even taller then our ancestors in the ancient world.  Plus when you couple in things like genetic engineering, nanomachines...

Oh wait.  Fry is pretty much the same height as most other characters, so that idea seems to be jossed.  Still, it could explain LeBarbara, who is extremely tall for a woman, and for Barbados Slim who is even taller then she is.

Does anyone remember that episode where they show a picture of bender getting a mug shot? It's in The Cyber House Rules, I think. When all his kids ask him to read his story lol: "Bender's Arrest Record, by The Police!"
In that picture I recall it him standing in front of the measurements  and it showing him being somewhere around 6 Feet tall.

Someone find a screen cap of it...

That being said, you can easily base everyone elses heights off that of Benders.

Except Bender can extend and contract his arms, legs, head, and antenna so you have to assume he has a "standard" setting and that he is using it in the mug shot as well as any scene used for comparison.

I've always considered Leela to be the tallest. It's unusual but not extremely exceptional for women to be six feet or more, I can name three or four I know personally right now. I can't imagine Hermes as 5'9", he's way shorter than that in my perception of things. Amy's probably around 5'5".

Look over again This is considered to be very official. Can clearly see who is taller.
Again, characters heights pretty much fluctuates from episode to episode.
Overall, this is pointless.

From what I've seen, I'd say Fry is the tallest, but he is always hunched over slightly, bringing him to exact eye level with Leela. Which is clever, because they can look eye to eye like equals most of the time, but when a scene requires Leela to do something like this:

Fry can stand up straight and be just a little bit taller.

It is really hard to tell exactly, but if one would guess, I would say-very thick, which estimates from 3 to 6 centimeters or even more. But hey, it's just visual talking, so no one would really know.

The boot-sole-thickness definitely fluctuates a bit, too. In the Eggman scene where she's going after Mr. Peppy all I could think was "wow, did not notice how big those things are before".

Leela = 182cm or 5'11.7"
Fry = 184cm or 6'0.5''

Bender w/ antenna is 188cm. He is roughly 10.5 antenna-lengths in height thus 188-17.9=170.1cm.
Bender w/antenna = 6'2'' Bender w/o antenna 5'7''.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the back of the boxes the figures come in say the heights of the characters?  I'm just going off of past experiences with figures, I could very well be wrong.
