Leela uses her arm thingy in "Route of all Evil" as a cell phone/moblie!

I recently saw an episode where Leela was going out to buy a dress or some kind of outfit and she made a comment about it having to fit over her huge forearm.  Does anyone else remember that?

It happened in "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings".

She was going to buy a pair of formal gloves that would fit over her enormous fore-arms. It's probably just a reference to Leela being higher and a lot stronger than the average woman. Both thing would result in larger arms.

She doesn't wear her wrist-o-jackimator when she's in formal attire.

Edit: welcome to PEEL, enjoy it here.

Bobby, try to add something useful to the thread, don't just post a welcome message.

I was under the impression that the "Wrist-Lo-Jack-a-Mator" was just the Hot and cold tracking thing in how Hermes requesitioned his groove back. In the problem with popplers she simply calls it "This thing i wear on my wrist"
So... i dont know, just a thought...

And welcome to PEEL Amberland

Leela's wrist thingy is....

#10 Science Fictioney
#9 A cell phone
#8 A scanner
#7 A tracking device
#6 Military issue (civies have them but they are less powerful and lack certain functions)
#5 Yet another thing to make her seperate from the other main chara.
#4 Remote control
#3 A flimsy pretext to try out my latest invention.
#2 Perfect for wanging people on the head

And the number 1 thing that Leela's wrist thingy is.......

#1 A PLOT DEVICE!

By not specifying what it is, or what it does, it can do anything at anytime, anywhere!

I think that the reason Leela's wrist-lo-jak-amator is larger than amy's for example: amys one is probably a newer model after all the old large mobiles never had camera's but now the smaller ones have cameras. and it makes sense because Leela is obviously poor due to the lack of furniture in her apartment. Also we all know Amy is incredibally rich.

It serves kind of the same purpose as Bender's door, as both a comedic device and a plot device

Leela isn't necessarily poor. Since she was raised as a poor orphan she would have grown accustomed to making do with very little. The circumstances that you live in become your comfort zone. She doesn't have a lot simply because she doesn't need a lot.

Leela does have one weaknes:  Clothes.  Very nice dresses and shoes.

She may wear stretch pants, tank tops and boots to work and casually, but when she goes out on special occasions, her dresses put everybody else to shame, including Amy.

Plus she dresses to maximize the effect of her toned body.

Its funny, because it can do so much but it only has two buttons and a screen. And i agree with ZoidZoid...amy's is problably an newer model, maybe even a prototype.

The Thing serves two obvious uses. First it goes with the Leela look, unconventional yet hot. Second, it does everything as a joke at scifi, think tricorder.

One of my favourite jokes, if you like, is from Mothers Day, when the robots rebel, the Wrist-lo-jack-a-mator says: "Try washing your wrist sometime"

Cue the snide sniff...haha  :D

One of my pet peeves...well, not so much a pet, more like the peeve I occasionally feed in the park...is that people believe that "wrist lo-jack-a-mator" is the name of the entire wrist unit, rather than (as seems obvious to me) merely the name of the particular function that "lo-jack-a-mates" (locates) things.  (No offense, HookerBot 5000...it's a very common (mis)perception).

Strangely, no one ever makes the same kind of assumption in regards to "Spanish Fry;" that is, no one ever assumes that "emergency face laser" is the name of the whole wrist unit.  I assume that's because "emergency face laser" both A) sounds much more specific than "lo-jack-a-mator" and B) doesn't contain the word "wrist" in it.

(I believe both instances are a shoutout to the old 60's Batman series, with BM&R ever more ridiculous string of gadgets, especially on their utility belts - like the "Reverse Thermal Bat-lozenge" and the "Small Echoing Seal Pulsator" (tracking device for seals)).

(My personal fave - the "Small Batcave Improvement Loan."  Yes, on the utility belt.    :p   Check out this link for more, if you wish.    :laff: )

Another peeve, and this one I actually take the vet on occasion, is that people think Amy's wristwatch/pda is a smaller version of Leela's wrist unit, or a "civilian version" or something...Amy clearly has what amounts to a fancy cell phone with pda functions on it.  Leela has something more like a wearable tricorder/Swiss Army Knife.  I've seen some cell phones that can do a lot of fancy stuff, but they do not a MacGyver make.  :p

Yeah, no worries Shiny  :) I'll know now for the future  :)

So basically, the wrist-lo-jack-a-mator is Tress McNeille? (well, not her obviously, I mean like, her voice)

I just call it a wrist-thingy. That sort of sums it up. It goes on the wrist, and it's a thingy. No more discussion. None. Nada. Zilch. Nil. Zero to the power of forty-two. The number just below Plank's Constant. One divided by infinity. Use the wrist-thingy for more. It has a built-in dictionary and anthology of numbers, oh my, yes it does, hmm-hmm.

I always thought one of the main gags about Leela's armband was that it didn't have a name!
Here's this thing, this tool, that does all these wonderful, useful, fantastical things, but doesn't even have a name!
I'll, uh... I'll be quiet now...
