Well, the only poll I know of is Skinner's 14+ month old thread with 3 choices (one of them is Homer), and do we really want to dig that up again? I mean it's Skinner for crying out loud!

And I must protest. Why are Kif in this? He's clearly a very intelligent and competent DOOP officer.

So I voted Fry, for that fatal line in "Parasites Lost".

He's an officer in the DOOP fleet, he can't just quit, he has to apply for a transfer. Zapp probably refuse to give his approval of this, and in any case Kif's spirit have been squashed after serving under Zapp so many years. Hopefully Amy can revitalize his zest and ambitions.

Kif's my favorite male character, so it's natural for me to spring to his defence.  :p

Fry at least has occasionally shown flashes of intelligence. Zapp, however, is a moron in every sense of the word.

It's a bit of toss-up between Fry and Zap but I got to go with Fry, maybe if Zap was in the show as much as Fry we'd have better proof to back it up but Fry being as Fry is we have tonnes of it.

Now an examplpe has just occured to me that can give examples of both, the Titanic episode 'A Crusie To Remember' (that was the name wasn't it?) anyway at the dinner table Fry is stupid enough to think that singing the 'Three's Company' theme will get him out of trouble, while Zap (admittedly not proving himself especially bright the rest of the episode) is at least smart enough to realise there's something suspicious going on with Fry and the ladies.

Also I think sometimes Zap's moronic decisions is more a matter of ego and arrogence than stupidity, meanwhile Fry is immune to brain slugs and the flying brains because his own brain isn't fully functional.

It's simple, Zap Brannigan.  A man who has lazed his way through futuristic society to become a general with more stars than anyone thought was universally possible.  That and for some reason, no one has yet conducted a full inspection of his captain's abilities.

He's an incompetent twerp who prays on innocent one-eyed space captains, and torments the meek around him with unimaginable tasks.

I think Fry is socially dumb as can be expected as he comes from a thousand years ago. Zap however is just thick. They are both equally stupid but I voted for Fry anyway.

I'm voting for Zapp. Fry doesn't think of himself as a smart person, while Zapp... well...  :) That makes Zapp dumbest in my opinion.

Well, actually no.
Fry is immune to the Brain Spawn. It's that whole 'lacking-a-delta-brainwave' thimg.
Remember, in TDTESS he wasn't affected by the Big-Brain's stupefaction ray, but in 'Raging Bender' he got a Brain Slug on him, and was affected. Though, at the end of the ep (Raging Bender), Farnsworth picks a dead brain slug up off the ring floor saying something like "...Poor little fellow starved to death." This was presumably the Brain slug from Fry: Implying Fry doesn't have enough mental power to sustain one, but he was affected.

Good thing this thread hasn't been closed yet. Have the MODs become lazy recently...?      :evillaugh:

Also, Zapp was "smart" enough to get Leela out of her pants     :flirt: , something that Fry hasn't managed to do (yet)

Leela is actually not very smart as well, I mean, just think of the guys she fell in love with (or something similar)

Taking the credit for the work of talented underlings (such as Kif), while delegating the blame in the opposite direction.

Once he's seen as a rising star (and in the DOOP military that doesn't seem like a difficult task), promotions probably come easier. Besides it's not like his enemies was of a formidable nature. The Retiree People, the Pacifists, etc.

And the blunder against the Omicronians wasn't his fault, he ordered his men to stop dying, but they just wouldn't listen. How is a field commander expected to succeed when his troops doesn't obey orders, because his battle plan was foolproof.

Also he seems very buddy-buddy with Nixon. That have to shed a few medails and promotions.

Edit: I'm not going to address the "Leela is dumb because of the lovers she pick" line, that's just going to get ugly. As soon as Erdrik, Venus or some other member of the Shipper-club sees it, they'll set the record straight.

Ok well what im seeing here is that Zapp was raised to be an idiot. Ok here is my point: little Zapp was born ok now his parents (who would they be) teach him how to be an idiot and succed such as: blaming on others, take advantages of underlings, and do stupid orders (like stop dying).
By the other hand Fry was just born stupid and his parents didnt want him so they didnt correct him like Zapp

I didn't mean that Leela is stupid as compeared to Fry or Zoidberg, but she is also not as smart like she appears to be. But that doesn't make her any less attractive...

But it doesn't make her smart, either. She can be taken advantage of just like everyone else, via intelligence. (see Brannigan, Zapp for taking advantage of her.)

As for the dumbest character, and I mean pure dumb, with no redeeming qualities, I'd vote for Igner of Mom's 3 sons. I think Igner's the one I'm talking about. The others mentioned in this thread can be smart *sometimes*, but Igner's just a moron.

I'm changing my vote. Igner.
Given Fry is ignorant and stupid (a dangerous combination), but Igner's neurons arent even on speaking terms.
Fry may be a dim bulb, but Igner is the one who's most likely to drown in a rainstorm because he forgets to close his mouth.
