I have noticed that some Futurama characters have a similar role in the story as a counter part in The Simspons. Can you think of any relationships between characters?

Two that I can think of are:

Zap=Mr. Burns
Kif=Smithers
Kryten

Mom = Mr. Burns
Walt, Larry, Igner = Smithers
Smitty & URL = Eddie & Lou
Donbot, Joey Mousepad & Clamps = Fat Tony, Legs & Louie.
Zoidberg + Dr. Nick
Calculon = Troy McClure or McBain

A lot of this is because there are a lot of stock character types used in both shows... incompetent cops, incompetent doctors, etc. The characters aren't so much rip-offs of each other as they are tapping into well-known stereotypes.

Yeah, I know they are not rip-offs, I just want to see what character types are similar in both shows!

Has anyone seen a Simpsons comic from several years ago where Apu got corrupted by Burns and turned into a Burnsified version of himself?  I don't know why, but Leela's boss at the cryogenics place reminds me of the Burnsified Apu.

Some of you are flying WAAAY off the mark if you ask me (which I know you didn't.)
Marge - Leela?!? Not a chance, I could not imagine a more different pair of leading ladies, Marge is a commentary of the suburban housewife, downtrodden, quiet, no true life outside the housework. Leela is take-charge, tough, "I am woman hear me roar" type.

Next Carbito: Zap=Mr. Burns, Kif=Smithers, I don't think so, Burns for all his oddities is an intelligent ruthless capitalist MUCH more like Mom, Zap is more a harmless egocentric moron, stupid but not evil and Kif and smithers don't fit, Smithers, well we all know his deal is "y'know" and worships Burns while Kif despite maybe being as downtrodden and over-worked as Smithers hates every minute of it and is openly insulting of Zap.

I'd have to go with Kryten for all of hers except I don't think Calculon makes much of a McBain.

Yeah, after posting this I realised I was wrong about Burns and Smithers.

As for Leela I don't think she accually has a counter  part character in The Simpsons, she in unique. Fry and Bender are also hard to place as both of them take on charaistics of both Bart and Homer. For example Bender is lazy and drinks like Homer but he also has that "in your face attitude" just like Bart.

Farsworth-Prof Frink and Grandpa together
Calculon-Reinier Wolfcastle
Zoidberg-Moe(in that they're poor and ugly)hehehe

Obviously the are both mayor of the city that the characters live in. They are also both stupid and don't do anything.

I see your point but I still say that's a pretty small thing to focas on around all the other differences.

Moe-Zoidberg? I agree with the Nick Riviera connection (well obviously, incompetant docs either side) I don't think Moe fits in though because Nick and Zoidy also have the upbeat personality trait.

Finally I think Calculon is more Troy McClure than McBain, McBain was a direct take-off of Arnie, McClure is a more genneral commentary, plus he seems too much of a priss.

I had a big listing of characters I thought filled the same roles.  It's buried in the general disscussion board somewhere.

Fry: Homer/Bart
Bender: Bart/Homer
Leela: Marge/Lisa
Amy: ?
Zoidberg: Millhouse/Dr. Nick
Hermes: Lenny and/or Carl?
Professor: Abe/Frink

I had more, but I don't care to try to remember.

I noticed that most of the Futurama characters sound and are like Simpson characters. But I thought that:

Leela:Marge
Fry:Homer
Bender:Bart
Zoidberg: Dr. Nick/ Dr. Hibbet
Hermes: Smithes
Fernworth: Mr Burns
The Old Women: Grandpa (if he was a women)
Smitty and URL: Lou and Eddie
Donbot, Clamps and Mousepad: Fat Tony, Legs and Louie.

And the guy who does the voice of Clamps sounds like Louie/Legs.

I always felt that

Zoidberg=Ned Flanders

  Have you noticed how upbeat he seems at times?  I guess I keep thinking of the episode "Roswell that Ends Well."

I felt that Leela=MArge as well.  Because Leela is probably one of the smartest ones out there.  Marge is one of those who cautions people about doing things, and they do stupid things anyways.

I also feel that homer is either Bender or Fry.  In the Anthology of Interest where Bender screams "He's a madman...A MADMAN!!" he had such a Homer feel, but then of course, Fry is kind of thick-headed like Homer.  He did eat that sandwich from a space truck stop after all.

Now Amy...I don't know where to place her.  She's not dense, yet she's not as bright as Lisa.

Oh, and Nibbler=Santa's Little Helper: I mean they eat practically anything.

What LittleMiss said about Farnsworth being like Grandpa is true but he also is like Professor Frink.

As for all this talk about Leela I think that Leela is a mix of List and Marge but she is also indervidual and has no real strong ties to Simpsons characters like some of the others do.

No, I think Amy is like Lisa because of how perky they both are, plus they both kind of talk the same!  I said Leela is like Marge because of how down to earth she is--and she's also the voice of reason!  Fry is more like bart because one, they both can skateboard and two, they both go against the woman figure (Leela).  Plus in "The Honking" Bender strangled Fry like Homer does to Bart.  Nibbler is like the baby, and Leela always carries him like Marge carries Maggie.  Zoidberg is like Santa's Little Helper because everybody loves Zoidberg, and in ways he acts more like a pet than a... um... lobster. lol.  That's just what I think!  n____n  I dunno who Hermes would be, though.  :x

I agree with you on everything except Bender. He is like Homer but not as much as you seem to be saying. I think that Bender is a mix of Bart, Homer, Barney and Moe.

Leela is like both Marge and Lisa.  She has sense like Lisa plus they're both animal activists "The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz"  :rolleyes: and Leela is like Marge in that they're both unimpulsive "AOI" and that Simpsons episode where Homer breaks his jaw are good examples.

You remember that texas guy that owns everything from the Simpsons "Yeehaw Lisa Land"; well, he seems a lot like that guy from the Robot Wrestling Federation (RWF), he also owned that Blernsball team.  That seems like a good one to me.....  Also I think gil is somebody too "All this bad stuff happens to poor old gil" from the Simpsons (I think that's his name)....
