Bender is always the ladykiller and the type of awful boyfriend robot mothers warn their daughters about.  Especially if he's already shagged the mother and broke her heart or her marriage in the past.

Or both.

But the thing is, I would like to see Bender fall genuinely head over heels over a ladybot or two, rather then be infatuated with a floozy like Fanny.     Atm I'm working on a fan project where Fry has three love interests to choose from which means Leela finally has to stop taking him for granted and due the pursuing herself and actually work on herself instead of expecting other people and outside factors to do it for her, which is the opposite of what Fry and Amy do in that they surpress their own sadness to be people pleasers to the point their needs are ignored.... Amy has a loving stable relationship which Fry and Leela very much do not have to the point that I think Leela may not love Fry after all, and their wildly fluctuating relationship is all down to her rather then him, it's her fear of committment, desire to self punish and ultimately it may down to be that her feelings for Fry will simply never be romantic, and at best will purely be based on her physical lust for him, as she never seems to appreciate how much he works for her and to improve himself for her, and seems incapable of giving him the emotional intimacy he needs from a romantic partner as he spends so much work trying to figure out her mood swings neither of them realise how much his needs are not being acknowledged, noticed or even met.

So I want to shake up their stagnant dynamic by introducing new love interests for Fry, to show that he has choices available to him that he doesn't realise.   Fry wants as much out of as life and more from it as Leela does, but his self esteem is even lower then hers that he doesn't realise that he has the power to make his dreams reality through his talents and aptitude for hard work when his self esteem is raised.

But honestly I want to do the same with Bender and there are a lot of lovely bachelorettes that could show us how Bender behaves when he is truly head over heels in love with a lovely ladybot.     If I was in charge of writing episodes for a new season, these are the bachelorettes I would use.

1.   The Countess.
For me the Countess is Bender's true love which makes her death very sad before she could be explored.    The Countess sees something inside Bender that I don't think the audience has truly seen yet.   By far, Bender's relationship with the Countess was by far his most loving, and was ended with her death, rather then his own poor treatment of the ladybot in question.  Angelyne he lost by not respecting her and allowing his jealousy and obsession to blind him to the fact that she genuinely cared about him and had no intention of cheating on him, but he was as bad a boyfriend to her as he was a friend to Flexo.   The Countess was also a very fun character in her own right; she wasn't just a membber of the yachting club, she was a yacht herself.

The Countess was perhaps the most wholesome of any of Bender's genuine love interests.   She was a genuine lady, not a self absorbed snob or would splash her cash in a vulger fashion like Amy's nasty parents.   The Countess was a perfect lady like Inara Serra in that she was as cordial and polite and respectful without being condescending to everyone, regardless of their social or financial station.   She also had one of the best character designs of any robot in the series.   What was also itneresting was that Bender didn't have to lie about himself or carry out harebrained bathos sitcom scenes to win her love or impress her or hide the more unsavoury aspects of himself about her: the Countess

It's odd because the Futurama parody of Rose from Titanic was much much much much much nicer and fun to be around then the actual character from the actual film, who at best was a self absorbed bore, but most of the time seemed to be a particularly sociopathic person with NPD.    Sailor Moon did a set of characters that were evil characters of the main cast, but Sailor Mar's evil counterpart in the second season.... ended up being ridiculously nice while Sailor Mars herself was such a vindictive, spiteful see you next Tuesday that I really wondered who was supposed to be the doppellganger of the two.   Koan (the evil Sailor Mars) eventually went on to become a door to door makeup saleslady who went out of her way to make sure her customers had every reason to be satisfied and confident with their purchases.... while Sailor Mars would constantly tell her friends that the reasons their boyfriends dumped them was because they got fat and would give them what seemed like deliberately bad relationship advice while Koan even before she turned good gave genuinely good relationship advice.

I will go into my other favourite potential bachelorettes for Bender's heart, like Angelyne, the Crushinator, Ruth and Esther (I prefer Esther because of her character design and the fact that she seems to have the stronger personality of the two, of all the characters to finally get that fat bitch Bev to shut the hell up I would have not expected it to be the more vapid sounding of Bender's rich jewish princess robot floozies and the Ship herself who really needs a comeback.

Bev: I ain't making drinks for no trashy robo sluts!   (Despite Bev being far of a slut then Ruth n'Esther put together and a horrible mother and working a dead end job and collecting welfare checks while Ruth and Esther both went to prestegious colleges and live an affludent lifestyle adn are both much younger and prettier)

Esther (who is having none of that)  TRASHY?!?!?

At least I don't put out for quarters!!!!

Bev responds by spraying everyone with slurm because she isn't just a fat bitch, she's a little bitch as well.  Don't be starting what you can't finish sweetie, the young lady was not bothering you and didn't seem to even realise you were there until your jealous fat ass started insulting her for no reason.

That was for me, one of the biggest OH NO SHE DIDN'TS in the history of the show.  Savage Esther really needed more lines.

All four of the Ayakashi Sisters turned good, not just Koan, and she wasn't that nice before she turned good.

As for Sailor Mars, what can I say?  The anime really did a number on her personality.  She's almost a completely different character from the original manga version.

I would like to see Bender fall genuinely head over heels over a ladybot or two

American TV being essentially beholden to a Puritanical morality play-esque set of rules, Bender would almost certainly not be allowed a genuine romance that did not end in tragedy unless he became a reformed character. The vaguely Space Mormon-ish Bender that we get in Hell is Other Robots, before he slips back into his old ways, would have been allowed a Calibrated Soul Mate. But not Lovable Old Bender as we see him throughout the series. A censorial word would have been had with the creators as to the appropriate Wages of Sin.

Let me guess, you're an atheist.

I'm proposing this as an idea, as I feel the main problem with the CC episodes was that the team were either unwilling or not allowed to take risks, and were very limited in what they were allowed or were willing to do as oppose to the classic run.

Bender HAS fallen in love in the past, and I find it interesting beccause his behaviour has changed with each robot bachelorette.   The fact is the ladykiller falling in genuine love is an interesting cliche because it allows for so many narrative and storytelling and comedy potentials.

I'm working on a comic right now where the theme is:

What if Fry had friends besides the PE team?   What if he had people who actually liked him enough to take an interest in his hobbies, interests, dreams, sadnesses, fears and his likes and dislikes?  Fry is probably even more ignored then Amy and Zoidberg are now that I think about it, and the thing is both of them are too wrapped up in their own severe depression to help him, while Leela and Bender constantly mistreat and neglect him.

So I was wondering, what would be a great way to shake up the stagnant characters?  Fry is one of the only characters who has grown while Leela has stagnated as a person because of her fear of change.   Fry embraces change half out of his adventurous personality but the other half is that he never really has much of a choice anyway if at all.

So here are my writing prompts for shaking up the main trio.

Fry: Fry gets fired, dumped and kicked out all on one day, and has no choice but to stand on his own two feet and decides to found his own company as captain from scratch.     So he gets his own team, where he gets to be the star, and unlike Bender and Leela, actually treat him like he matters and encourage him instead of constantly putting him down.  So Fry struggles with freelancing and going to community college, making new friends, and dating new people.  Only this time he slowly builds up a social circle of people who encourage him and stand up for him, and earns the interest of a lovely bachelorette or three....

Bender

Both Bender and Leela take Fry for granted, so the main dynamic is how they both cope with someone they feel very superior to actually doing so much better now he isn't hanging out with them so much anymore.  Leela suddenly realises that the boy who she has kept on her maybe pile for years and always expects to be her permenent backup option....  is now doing better then her in pretty much every area and has earned the interest of quite a few women (and maybe one or two men).    Suddenly Leela realises that Fry is taking her advice much better then she does herself, and has been doing it for quite some time.  Now Leela has to reevaluate herself now she no longer has Fry around: what she wants out of life, and now she has to ask a question of herself:

Has she spent so long asking herself if Fry is worthy of her, now she must ask herself.. was it really the other way round all along?

Now Bender.

One thing I've found interesting is that I've noticed that none of Bender's little girlfriends or floozies have ever been really that mean to Fry, and unlike robot men who generally attack him, robot women generally just don't react to him.

So my theory is.... what if all this time, Fry has actually been extremely desirable by the standards of robot women (and actually one of the main reasons for the banning of robosexuality is because robot men don't want fembots dating organics, especially human men, because a lot of fembots have a huge fetish for human men, especialyl men like Fry).    Just as the Crushinator is the pinnacle of fembot beauty standards, and Kif is considered the most attractive male in the universe, perhaps by the standards of what fembot find desirable in a male, also because fembots value tenderness which is something rarely found in Futurama, let alone NNY manbots.

So my plotline for my comic is that Fry is actually considered far more attractive personality and appearance wise by robot women, to the point of being something of an urban legend, and when Bender finds that out he just cannot stand it, and his jealousy increases as more and more fembot women that he hits on express disinterest, but go giddy when Fry is mentioned.

Another storyline I'm working on is the Countess turning out to be alive and either having lost all her memories of Bender, or it turns out she was quickly rescued from the Black Hole (or it just simply spat her out somewhere else), but Bender has ignored her calls and emails and letters so much (but cashed her cheques or pawned her heartfelt expensive love tokens) that she is moved on with her life and now refuses to even acknoweldge his existence.  She now runs an elite finishing school for young ladies and gentlemen, and her previous students include Amy and her two JAP friends Ruth Sylvia Goldberg and Esther Greenwood Goldenblatt who have now taken it upon themselves to turn Fry into a dashing young gentleman and want to My Fair Laddy him: Ruth wants him to model her new menswear line and Esther wants him to star in her new screenplay.  The Countess remarks that among her male students, Fry is one of her most promising, as long as he remembers not to scratch himself with the salad fork, when the ass scratching comes between the sorbet and the fish, and it's the small silver fork with five prongs and a small wooden bell with a brass handle.

Let me guess, you're an atheist.

I'm not sure how disliking Puritanism equates automatically to atheism.

For the record, I believe in Pinkophant.

So, it looks like you're really set on a Pygmalion/Futurama mashup. Let me stop you right there. The Simpsons already did it. Family Guy did it. Will Smith made a whole series out of it.

How about a fanfic that's based on a totally original idea, rather than taking some "classic" work and mashing them together in a way that will maybe generate a cheap laugh, but will definitely not bring anything new to the table for either of the two properties you're combining?

I mean, you run the risk of writing a Season 6 episode if you're just going to continue down this path.

It's not that you like it, it's more that you found a way to work it into a conversation where it was not relevent.  I am not interested in your political or relgious beliefs and I find it annoying when someone on the internet lets me know that much about that side of themselves that quickly without needing to say it.

I don't know what Pikophant is and I don't care and I assume it's something to do with that depressing disney film about a sad baby elephant with huge ears.

Well if it's so easy to create classic Futurama, why haven't you done it?  You've spent much more time criticising all my ideas since 2011 then I have seen you producing any original ideas of your own.    I'm not saying that to be rude, that is just my general memory of you if you are the person I am thinking of.

The Puritan values ingrained into American society are reflected in what is and isn't allowed on American TV. It was absolutely relevant.

I am not interested in your political or relgious beliefs and I find it annoying when someone on the internet lets me know that much about that side of themselves that quickly without needing to say it.

Well, you brought up my personal/religious beliefs without me having said anything about what they might be. All I said was that American TV tends to be beholden to and uphold a Puritanical ideology.

I don't know what Pikophant is and I don't care and I assume it's something to do with that depressing disney film about a sad baby elephant with huge ears.

Pinkophant is part of PEEL lore/history.

Well if it's so easy to create classic Futurama, why haven't you done it?

I neither said it was easy, nor implied I had any interest in doing so.

You've spent much more time criticising all my ideas since 2011 then I have seen you producing any original ideas of your own.

Yes, yes, I'm a horrible person. I know.

I'm not saying that to be rude, that is just my general memory of you if you are the person I am thinking of.

Yet there is no reason to say it other than to bristle at me. I have no interest in continuing this conversation further, so if you'll stop trying to misrepresent what I've said, I'll stop commenting.

I don't want you to stop commenting.  I am interested in what you say, just not about politics.   I shouldn't be able to tell your religious beliefs this easily.   I am much more interested in your ideas, not inside jokes or what you feel american television does, because I write for myself, not what particularly stupid Americans and British people do.   Futurama pushed the envelope in a number of ways in the early 2000s, when the Helen Lovejoys and their husbands had a much tighter grip on what was deemed suitable for their children and therefore would be allowed on tv.

Tl;dr

If you were in charge of the show, what ways would you be interested in seeing the character dynamics?   I am not interested in whether you think its wise, I am interested in what would you do if you had a gun held to your head and you had to come up with some original ideas for a new season of Futurama and it has to be good, not what will sell or bye bye your brain.

Humour me.  The life you save one day may be your own.   If I wanted to squabble about things I wasn't interested in the first place I'd go back to reddit.   Mate you are very smart, and I don't think we need to be pedantic.   I want to converse, not bickle aand hairsplit.
