All I can think about Leela's presentation...and her thoughts about feeling bad about herself.

There's got to be a heck of a lot more to this scene than we've been given in the preview.
For one, Leela does not look horrified or heartbroken, while (presumably) watching Fry fall to his death. She looks a bit angry. As to why, I have no idea.
Plus, after getting soaked in whatever that dark red substance is (Blood? Paint? Spaghetti sauce?), she looks back up. If that was Fry's remains she's splattered with, I highly doubt she'd do anything other than fall to the ground weeping. I mean, remember The Sting?
Yep. This one really looks like a scene that -when seen out of context- will give the completely wrong impression of events. Of course, it will probably have been chosen for just that reason: a) The substance may not be blood, but rather some dark fluid. With Fry's fall for some reason being embarassing, getting him dirty...but hurting nothing more than his pride. b) Leela's anger might have been directed at Fry being late, and expecting him to arrive. She did not expect him to fall from the sky. So, the "my boyfriend is being late again" angry face is still on. To be changed to horror and shock, as soon as she understands the surprising/shocking situation. c) We just see a quick shadow rushing past Leela. We do not even know wether that shadow is Fry (it is highly probable. Yet -as stated before- trailers often toy with "not everything is as it seems to be" scenes.) d) I am thinking of the "10 seconds back in time button". Maybe that scene is some random shenanigan, using Fry's death as a more throwaway joke. E.g. the button owners come to the realisation that they may not use that thing all the time to undo small mistakes. Followed by a montage featuring mishaps, that just HAVE to be fixed. When Leela finally thinks they managed to achieve a "non use" status, Fry falls to his death, leading to another "Oh great, we need to use that thing again" facial expression. Etc..etc...etc.. To cut a long story short: Many explanations possible for that one....

I remember in an interview with Maurice LaMarche he said in 7B's finale he plays a miserable jewellery store owner or something like that, more hints. Found the interview! AX: Can you tease about the season finale airing next summer? LAMARCHE: In our season finale, which will air next year, I play a washed up superhero who runs a jewelry store. His name is Ultra Guy. Other than that, I don’t know what quite happens. I’m saving it for myself. I’m going to watch that episode [when it airs], and by then I’ll know the fate of the show. If it is the last episode [of the series], I’ll know they’ve done a great job of wrapping it up. [bender]The evidence is mounting![/bender]

So . . . I was rewatching Beast with a Billion Backs tonight, and from a shipper perspective, it's pretty interesting. I don't think Fry was in love with Colleen - she seems like a classic rebound relationship to me. Reading between the lines though, the whole thing actually seems to reinforce his hopeless devotion to Leela.
First let's look at Colleen. She's supposed to be his attempt to move away from Leela, to someone more attainable, but she's actually a bit of a regression for Fry. It's like he's trying to go back in time to the kinds of girls he dated before he came to the future. Colleen sounds kinda Irish, and I always get the feeling there's some Irish in Fry (maybe it's Luck of the Fryrish, maybe it's the red hair . . ) Anyway, the way she takes him for granted and openly cheats also reminds me of his last serious girlfriend, Michelle. Regression.
The fact that he even considers the open relationship (when he obviously hates the idea) shows you how desperately lonely he is at this point.
Then there's the sad scenes after he breaks if off with her. Fry isn't seeing stuff which reminds him of Colleen here - he's seeing happy couples in general. (Some other interesting things ; the two characters who stop fighting and start kissing in Fry's video game are purple and orange. The therapist who's attention he can't get is also wearing purple, and making out with Chaz, the mayor's aide Leela dated - which pretty neatly reflects the way he can't get Leela's help with his relationship problems either.)
And then there's Yivo. I don't think Fry really loved Yivo either (the first reason he gives for loving it is "It loves me" and later on he compares his feelings to a schoolgirl crush), but even Yivo resembles Leela! It's not just that it's purple and it's got one eye. He travels to a new world, and the first thing he sees an apparently terrifying monster, who actually helps him feel less alone. Sound familiar?

Something else just hit me - Leela's whole theme in BWABB is isolation. She's always on her own, or she feels that way. She's alone at Amy's wedding. She's the only one who manages not to "love the tentacle". She's the only one who doesn't want to go live with Yivo. Fry's main theme is loneliness - he does unthinkable things for Yivo and Colleen, because they return his love, or he wants to believe they do. Loneliness and isolation, aren't new themes for either of them, but they're both pretty overwhelmed here, and end up questioning their core beliefs. They're not communicating with each other here, and as a result, they essentially lose themselves. The whole loneliness / isolation thing is also a major foundation for the ship. ("I'm lonely and you're lonely, but together, we're lonely together.") Here they're lonely apart, and for Fry, anyway, it's unbearable. Tough breaks. (I also found a funny little deleted scene on the dvd. Fry's upset and says he's done looking for love, and Amy tells him not to give up, suggesting he date some girl in her fitness class who's "plump but knows loads of riddles". Fry says he doesn't want to and leaves the room, but Leela immediately shoots down Amy's idea, AND calls the other girl "immense", and Amy nuts for suggesting it. Not only does this not gel at all with what she told Amy earlier - that love can find you when you least expect it and you shouldn't give up - but it's pretty bitchy. Jealous, much? )
