Going by their first/last names

How come Fry, Leela, Farnsworth and Zoidberg go by their last names, but Hermes and Amy go by their first names?

How come Fry, Leela, Farnsworth and Zoidberg go by their last names, but Hermes and Amy go by their first names?

• Personal preference.
• Fry, Farnsworth, & Zoidberg prefer to be addressed by their family names
  (although in Zoidy's case, who knows what unpronounceable series of sounds make up his decapodian family name).
• Leela’s family name is Taranga (I think that’s how it’s spelled), but she prefers to be addressed by her given name.

Now, just to confuse the issue:
What is Mom’s name?
What’s Scruffy’s name?
Is Kif a given name, family name, or something else?
What about Morbo, Elzar, Lrrr, or Ndnd?
Fnog? Tonk?
Does Sal have a family name, or are the rules different if he’s a clone?
Have Michelle’s or “That Guy’s” names ever even been mentioned in canon?

What is Mom’s name?

Much like Madonna, it's unknown.

What’s Scruffy’s name?

That might just be his name.  In one of the comics, it is confirmed to be such, but that might not be considered canon (see wiki for more details).

Is Kif a given name, family name, or something else?

Since his clan name is Kroker, I'm assuming it is his given name (full name, Kif Kroker).

What about Morbo, Elzar, Lrrr, or Ndnd?

Morbo, Lrrr and Ndnd are probably their full names.  Though, Morbo confirms that he has a wife named Fawn.  Elzar is a name reference to Emeril Lagasse.  So I would assume it is his given name.

Fnog? Tonk?

Given names, most likely.  It seems the culture of Amazonia is vastly based on a teenage girl-like mentality, where everything is very informal, and thus given names are probably used for one another.

I don't think Michelle has a last name mentioned.  Though, her mother is named Beth, but that's as much as we know.  She did marry a guy once, whom is most likely Charles Constantine and may have used his family name during that marriage.  She is now married with Pauly Shore, however.

That Guy's name is Steve Castle, as this was his name in the scripts, and confirmed on the commentary to "Future Stock".

I recall it was spelled "Taranga" in one of the episode subtitles, but I don’t remember which one.

The last I knew the comics were not considered canon for the TV show.
So: Not mentioned in canon.
Also, I’d love it if “Scruffy” turned out to be a nickname based on his family name being some pretentious-sounding thing like Scruffworthy, Scruffington, or some such.

No Question the man’s name is Steve Castle.
It was mentioned in the commentary, not the continuity of the show.

Well, ten seconds of searching revealed her birth name is Madonna Louise Ciccone.

Mom must have a real name, it has just not been revealed yet. And likely never will.

It could be something really girly, and she hates it.
