That whole Scruffy/Washbucket scene HAS to be referencing something. When I saw it, I vaguely remembered seeing a similar scene before, but could not place it. I'm guessing that the original version was in some classic B&W film from the 1940s (or maybe 1930s or 1950s). Does anybody else recall what film this scene first appeared in?

ah. My parents had that movie and watched it  frequently when I was a kid. But I never really paid attention or watched it all the way through. :p
