In the subplot where Bender was 'pregnant' with beer, did the writers get that idea from The Three Stooges?  There was an episode of the Stooges were they were making beer, it was called, "Beer Barrell Polecats", look it up on the IMDB.   In it, Moe, Larry, and Curly were making beer in a bathtub just like Fry, Leela, and Bender did before they put it in Bender.

Could it be that's where they got the idea?

Most likely, I don't recall them ever saying anything about where they got the idea on the audio commentary, but chances are the idea did comes from something similar to that, if not that. I haven't seen The Three Stooges, at least not the whole way through, but they get a lot of their plot and subplot ideas from movies, so you could be onto something there.

The Three Stooges was a TV show, not a movie, Nutmeg. :P

To be fair, I'm pretty sure there were some Three Stooges movies, but they weren't the main thing.

I got mixed up, so sue me. I'm thinking of that one with Steve Martin.

And I said I hadn't seen it. My slip would only be unforgivable if I'd pretended to know everything about them. So... yeah!

Oh my, no.
The Three Stooges made over 200 (very popular) 'shorts' between 1930 & 1959, and a half-dozen movies in the 1960's.
These (uproariously funny) shorts, typically shown before the main feature in movie theaters, gained the Stooges their popularity.
But don't take my word for it. ;)

To be fair, I'm pretty sure there were some Three Stooges movies, but they weren't the main thing.

Three Stooges shorts were their main "thing" for decades, but were ended (for whatever reasons) in 1959. With 200+ individual shorts, they were perfect for what we now call syndication, and were aired on countless TV channels. This introduced the Stooges to whole new generations of fans.
Perhaps it is these airings you refer to?

I'll just... ooze... back out under the door now- WOOB-WOOB-WOOB! NGAHH!!

I guess so...I always thought it was a TV series, not airings of shorts. Oh well. Still, it's not the Three Amigos. :P

I may be wrong, but don't they talk about it being based on some of the people working on the show's experiences of brewing their own beer in the commentary?
