   Rove McManus.

Wow. I haven't seen (a picture of) him since his wife died but I don't think I would have correctly identified that picture no matter how many guesses I was given.

P.S. I think it's cute when british people call it a "Flat" hehehehe.

And we find it cute, if not flatout fucking hilarious, when you say things like 'I've got a sore fanny'.

It means 'ass' somewhere?  Isn't an ass a donkey anyway?

I think in England ass is a donkey, arse or bum is the rear portion of your anatomy and fanny while being a term for butt in the US it is the corresponding front portion of a woman's anatomy.

Wow Danish women must be strangely built if their breasts are correspondingly in front of the butt area.

*Bump*

I've been doing that whole re-watching thang in preparation for the season premiere, and I was reminded of how great (and somewhat similar) these two scenes in "Space Pilot 3000" and "The Series Has Landed" are:

They're not overtly shippy, really, but there's a certain human-connectedness on display, and I really like it. These two moments are down-to-earth in a way that subsequent, possibly shippier moments in the series are not. I don't know what I'm trying to say; I guess I just get a different vibe from these two scenes.

Hm... when do y'all think that the writers will finally realize that this on/off thing is getting old after the ten or so years they've known each other? Seriously, it doesn't have to be the focus of the show, but this season looks like there's going to be an overkill...

"On again off again" as it says in the article doesn't necessarily mean they're going back to the constant "Will you go out with?" me thing again. If I had to guess I would say it probably means more of an rocky relationship thing than another reset. Fry does lots of stupid things that piss Leela off after all. I'm guessing Fry posting embarrassing pictures of her on the internet goes under that category.

I'm with Frisco. I think the writers are just trying to avoid getting the characters into a rut, where they have to get married and have kids and move to the suburbs and become this boring sitcom family. I'm interested to see where they take Fry and Leela's relationship--I'm convinced that they're not going to play it like they did in the first four seasons (and the first three movies). I don't think we'll be getting a reset, but I don't know what exactly we will get--and that uncertainty is kind of exciting.

And I'm with Gorky. We don't know what's coming, but it's different than before. Whether it holds up is something we'll find out - but it's not something we can decide beforehand.

Quote
We don’t want to get into a rut where they’re having a baby and moving away to the suburbs. That would mess up the show to some degree. Without giving too much away, to have their relationship be on-again, off-again is a little more exciting for the ongoing drama of the series.

Here's what I don't get- Was that ever a possibility? Futurama is a lot of things, but a take on suburbia is not one of them. It's nowhere within its structure. Futurama is so much a comedy that even its "deeper" moments are book-ended or filled with jokes (name one dramatic scene in Futurama that doesn't have a joke anywhere within it; you can't). The idea that Fry and Leela could ever end up a boring sitcom couple is one that I'm not sure why keeps getting spread. It's simply not within the show's nature. The idea that any fan would want the show to focus on Fry and Leela's relationship to that extent (or any dramatics) is almost as laughable; nearly none ask it to be. The "deeper" stuff is cherry on the comedy sundae; enjoyed by those who appreciate it and easily removed by those who don't. The show has (nearly) always managed to do well with that and I remain hopeful that it will continue to do well with that.

I think DXC is just exaggerating to make his point--Futurama cannot become the Fry and Leela Relationship Show. I think "on-again, off-again" translates to "They'll be together, but we'll only call attention to it when it serves some purpose in the story." In other words: Fry and Leela being together is not in itself a story; it's just a background detail that will be called to the fore when necessary.

I agree, Gorky.  One of the things that "keeps people coming back for more" is to see how things are going to go.  If you push the story into a dead-end type area, then people will be switching channels all over the place.  Although, not amongst us hardcore types...

I agree. I can't say that I'm jumping for joy over 'on-off', but if it's done well, there could be something to it. It also depends on exactly what that term means, too.

Nothn' to do but wait and see.

Odds on another MWC joke? Archonix has it, I think; not too likely outside of a dream sequence - or, some sort of hologram cooked up by Bender, or a 'holoshed' thing. Depends on how serious they're being with it. :)

Humph. Apparently, there's no life in this thread even when I make a outrageous comment (it's not what I really think, I just wanted to inject some life into this thread). So, my bump didn't work.

By the way, you don't think that Leela could actually develop a morsel of a relationship with Zapp Brannigan in the new season, right? They were holding hands and had their eyes looking up and glimmering with hope in one of the framegrabs...

Are they going to continue to let the characters age? I mean, it can't be too long before Kif and Amy's spawn sprout legs and walk on land.

Also, do you think that they would have all of those spawn survive? I mean, there's the fact (brought up by someone else) that they could barely survive their trip to the swamp, yet alone they have twenty or whatever years in there. But then again, Futurama just isn't one of those shows that would allow something like that to just die with little to no acknowledgement. Deaths either have to be funny, like Enos's, or be very emotional, like Seymour's (he laid down for the last time in his montage, I don't care what BBS did).

Stranger things have happened.

OR in the next frame, Zapp's right hand could slip down out of shot, Leela's expression would turn to outrage, and her left hand will whip up and break his nose.

We'll find out in a few days!

I still think that the placement of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela"--right after "Rebirth", which we're already pretty positive will contain a lot of Fry/Leela stuff, even if it does just result in a reset--could actually do wonders for the Fry/Leela ship. Being thrown into such close quarters with Zapp--a sexist (and sexlexic) moron who treats her like an object (hilariously, of course)--will make Leela appreciate what she could have with Fry. Even if it doesn't reverse this reset we're all worried about, I think it will give the Fry/Leela relationship some forward momentum.

And, if I'm wrong about the reset--if Fry and Leela end it with something ambiguously happy in "Rebirth"--then I think "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela" could solidify the rightness of that relationship in Leela's mind.

(Keep in mind that this would all be done in a subtle way; Futurama is by no means a melodrama, and I would not want it to be.)

UGH Seriously Freako, I can't believe you watched it and then had to come here and dissapoint us!
No matter what happens in "Rebirth" it's only the first episode, and we know Fry and Leela will have some kind of relationship in New Futurama based off DXC's interviews and the clips we've seen.
I think they'll be in a cute dating-like relationship. And at this point, that's fine with me! As DXC has said, of course they will have their rough times to work out. I've decided I'm going to be okay with whatever happens...because I don't want to be upset.
Any Futurama is Good Futurama!!
Also, perhaps it's dirty of me, but I really would just like to see Fry & Leela sleep together. hehe. I really think it will change the dynamic's of their relationship. (and it would be hot) And NO, AOI does not count. And I'm pretty sure we all agree Lars and Leela never slept together.
There's my thoughts...

As for Freako disappointing us: I've seen the episodes, and I won't say too much, but I think the second episode

Yes, I agree. And I'm pretty sure IN A GADDA DA LEELA will not upset me as a shipper because I trust the writers too much. lol. I know they'd never put Leela and Zapp in a real relationship. And of course the two of them are hillarious. In one of the comic books, she slept with him again... She secretly doesn't hate him that much. But no matter what happens, it's just one episode.
Also I like when Zapp is desperate and pathetic and on the Planet Express crew's good side. ITWGY was kinda weird with him being the enemy and actually having some authority. It's much funnier to make him a loser.
