Hey, does anybody know what Leela's parents' names are?  I'm writing a new section of my fanfic, "My So-Called Best Friend's Wedding", and there's a flashback of them in high school...but why am I boring you?  Anyway, if you know, please tell me.  Otherwise, I'll have to make up names and I'd *hate* to do that...    ;)          :laff:

Oops, forget her dad.  His name's Maurice, right?

The father's name is Morris and the mother's name was not revealed. I looked.

Hmm...seeing as there's no way to figure out what her name is, what do YOU think I should use as her name?  I'm thinking Elle, as in Elle Woods.    Or not...

BBT: "Leela's mother is named Turanga Munda and her father is Turanga Morris. Mutant surnames come first which is why they addressed Leela's birthday card 'Happy Birthday, Leela'." Found at TLZ

That might make sense, but then why do all of Leela's friends call her Leela? Doesn't that sound suspectly mutantish?

Why do they  call Fry by his last name? His first is Philip.  He's not a mutant. It's just something they do. She may have also thought it sounded better than Turanga.

Leela sounds alien also.

If you mean why do they call her by her "last" name, same reason as Fry... because they didn't tell people their first names until over a year passed.  They prefer being called by their last names.

It would have helped if they had told us the fact that mutants go last name first name... giving us a few more clues.

So, is Fry a mutant?

No, even mutants are smarter than Fry, according to the Nibbilonians.

not with killer brains around.

I was just joking that because people call fry Fry instead of Phillip, he would be a mutant, as mutants go last name first name

Yes, I realize that. There's no reason to believe the brains themselves are killers. They just make everyone so stupid that they probably blow themselves up. The brains accomplish their mission by draining everyone of intellegent thought. Thus proving stupidity is dangerous. Especially when you have nukes around

copied from the leela zone :

"Leandro has handed me some interesting information concerning the names of Leela's parents, this comes from a writer/producer for the show. "Leela's mother is named Turanga Munda and her father is Turanga Morris. Mutant surnames come first which is why they addressed Leela's birthday card 'Happy Birthday, Leela'."

where i come from people go by their last names in games of football or either if there are too many people with the same first name.

Like in my year at school there are about six Stephen's so we all go by our last names to make life easier, but that said it's only really guys who do it so i don't know why Leela goes by her last name, unless it's really her first like was said.

Almost all the people I know at my school call each other by their surnames. Usually with a 'y' stuck on the end to make it sound better. ie Boony, Browny...

Dunno why, but it helps to stem confusion in classes because theres usually at least 2 people with the same first name.

Even some people in the 20th Century called Fry by his last name. I always assumed his first name was Small, or French. Or Pan. Ewwwwww.

The South Park kids call Cartman by his last name.

Perhaps it'sa sort of Asian thing in places like Japan and China the family name is said first. So If I said my name in japanese it would be
Clarke Adam desu. FYI Desu is not part of my name it is part of the sentence. Since Leela is all high kicking kung fu action girl it seems faily logical.

When I first heard the main character's name was Fry, I thought he had fast food employees for parents. Then I learned it was his last name and the meaning of life came to me :)

Being called by your surname is not so weird. I mean I was called Clarkee ( empisis on the e) basically because their were quite a few Adam's in our year. Now to save confusion they just call me monkey. My point is that his surname is more unusuall than his first name therefor by calling out his suranme you are not so likely to get confusion.

I was never called by my surname, I was always refered to by by school nickname - 'Psycho'

But others were refered to by their surnames.
