Anyways, anyone have any ideas for proper "Fry" shoes? I was thinking of just some classic Vans or something.

Happy shopping.

That's all I could find on zero notice.  :hmpf:
Now those are my kind of shoes.

@jbm: Nice costumes, and that box is a nice touch. How'd you get the little brain slug to stay on your head?

Actually I got this picture off of a google image search, but I would think that there is some sort of hair clip on the bottom of that brain slug.

Fry's jacket is good. Yep, very good, but it seems like in cartoon it is not so slight.
And can somebody shoot that fat Leela?

Are those pictures from the Comic Con?  And those shoes look exactly like Fry's.   And Fry's jacket was tailored after James Dean's jacket.

Yeah, his jacket doesn't exist in real life. Pretty much had to find one that looked similar to it.

Same thing with the shoes.

I bought some white laces and some shoes and put these together. I love these shoes! :)

The closest I could get to his jacket:

Oh, and I took that picture for a friend so I put pens between my fingers. lol

Y'know, I think I may copy that. There's a store not too far from me having a sale on black pumps and there's one in the market nearby that sells laces...

Depends on whether I can find the jacket, but I think I may be able to replicate Fry's outfit. I mean, if I can't find the jacket, I do have one I could bleach, then dye red. Watch out universe...

I have yet to see a set of Futurama cosplayers that've blown me away. The simplicity fools people into going about saying "ehh, close enough" with their costume pieces. Which don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing per say, but it is when you don't really try and just say "let me get a pair of black sneakers, a red jacket, jeans and a white shirt and class it a day". You cannot convince me that someone couldn't make a jacket pattern that gets the look right.

As far as I can tell, Leela is near impossible to get right. It's true, I think the kinda basic costume layout makes people think they can wing it, but 96% of the time it comes off awful.

Yeah, I think Leela's eye makes it impossible unless you make a full-on mascot costume like they have for the Simpsons over in Universal Studios. And we all know that there are very few people who can actually construct great looking mascot costumes outside the pro industry.

With the right tools, you could get it right... The problem is, it wouldn't be pretty/beautiful. The thing with Leela is, she's fit and objectively attractive, but the eye throws people off because it's a giant eye. With liquid latex, a proper prosthetic eye, scaled correctly and set against the face correctly... It could be done. The problem remains, that the cartoon is simplistic, so you don't realize how strange she'd look IRL. Then again, her everyone on the show has huge eyes.

If you scaled things down, it would be more correct, but then people would complain that it didn't stick to the show canon. Making the simple cartoony look work in real life is a difficult balance. But hey! I intend to properly cosplay Leela one day. I have plans, and all that I mentioned above are included. Might take some expensive means, but it'd be awesome if I could pull it off. Sorry to thread-jack.

On another note, people could cosplay the opera versions of the characters - that would be hilarious to see!

You can't get Leela right in real life in my opinion. But that's mostly due to the fact that most people won't take the time to do the proper prosthetic work and getting an eyeball-esque mono-big-ol' eye thingy to place into the prosthetic eye that you can then see out of.  But, that's not to say it can't happen, it just has not. Also EH GAD! Dat Leela made me puke.

My take on Fry:
Well, Fry's windbreaker is the same red windbreaker from Rebel Without a Cause, and it's really easy to find reproductions of it, or comparable red windbreakers. There's plenty on the first page of a Google search, for a pretty penny. Also for Fry's shoes, I'd go with a black tennis shoe with a white tongue. That's how Matty G draws Fry, and lace it up so the laces go straight across. I did that when I was in primary school because it was "coo". Hope that helps on a blazes old thread.

Edit: I found a Reebok windbreaker on Amazon for 15 bucks. Same collar and red zipper. But, it's of course got the logo on the arm for those who would care. There's other for more that'll not be branded.

It's a red jacket. It's animated, not real like Indiana Jones's jacket. So you can't actually get one in real life.
I'm sure you could find a red jacket, but it wouldn't be the same one, because the one he's wearing isn't actually real.

Fry's design was made after James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause".
The jacket you are talking about is a windbreaker.

Also, Fry's shoes look like Vans but in "The Series Has Landed", Fry is wearing Nike shoes.

(crap, my bad for double-posting)
