What was the point of Devils Hands? There was no actual implication that they would have a relationship at the end beyond Fry's holophoner fantasy. For all we know, Leela could have leaped on stage and beaten him to a bloody pulp with it five seconds after he'd finished. Unlikely, I know. I personally think the point was to illustrate that things might be changing, not that they would be changing. It was, at the time, the last ever episode but while they wanted to give the fans closure, I'm certain they knew at some point the series would be revived, so they deliberately left things open. Of course the only people who actually know what's going on are the creators and the lucky sods who've seen it already. We're in for the long-haul now. This is fun! We're speculating over things we haven't seen yet! When was the last time anyone got to do that? Was that the mountain-climbing analogy?
It was. However you may have meant it, that's what I got out of it. [edit] Oh yes, and...

I was not even considering it. In fact, because he looks so much like me, I'm actually looking for somewhere to hide now... edit: all you people with your depression are starting to get to me now. I found myself crying over the ending of a Star Trek episode - I never cry at Star Trek (except maybe when I'm forced to watch Voyager). I'm gtting emotional over things that make absolutely no sense. I haven't felt like this since Wash died in Serenity. That is the only film that's ever made me cry. Of course they were manly tears of manlyness, full of testosterone and salty manly goodness... edit2: And this song didn't help my mood much either...

Pedro La Loco Went Down to PEEL (Tune: The Devil Went Down to Georgia)
The spirit of Pedro La Loco was pervading through the thread, He was in bind 'cause he was way behind, the shippers weren't yet dead. When he came across this older fella, shippin' on in hope a lot, And La Loco materilised in front of him said "Boy, let me tell you what: I bet you can see around you, the 'Ship's about to fall, Bender's Big Score's a'comin', with plot set to enthral. Now you can 'ship quite well, as I have always plainly knew, But I'll bet a fart against your heart, that my view is better than you!" The fella said "As sure as my name's Xanfor, I'll take you on your deal! I take your bet, you're gonna regret, I'm an optimist's ideal!"
Xanny you jump up fast and write a shippy fic, 'Cause Pedro's loose in the forum and you know it makes us sick! And if you win, the spirit leaves, in the wake of a smelly fart, But if you lose, Pedro breaks your heart!
Pedro cracked his knuckles and said to Xan, "I'll start this show" He snapped his fingers, once then twice, and appeared a space-time hole. They stared into the future, at the end of movie one. And the sight was quite depressing 'cause it seemed the 'Ship was done.
When the film was over, and La Loco quite impressed, Xanfor shook his head and said "I never would have guessed. You think us shippers are gonna stop, you think it's over then? Well just sit back on that there haystack and we'll go over this again!
We know the 'Ship's got more that's concealed! Here in the shippy thread of PEEL! We know that the movies have quite an appeal! They're together in the end so what's the big deal?
Pedro bowed his head 'cause he knew that's he'd been pwned. He gave his fart and left Xan's heart and his face became withdrawn. Xanny said "La Loco, you come back here, as often as you can, We've told you once, you ol' n00b you, we're Futurama's shippy fans!"
And the 'Ship's still got more that's still concealed! We know in the shippy thread of PEEL! We know that the movies have quite an appeal! They're together in the end so what's the big deal?

I don't know, Gene. A few of them were nice, like...

I thought all women were attracted to bastards? At least that's how it seems to those of us who have tried being "nice guys" out here in the real world.
Or, to put it more fairly, many (most?) women are naturally attracted to confident, self-assured guys who live on their own terms and don't feel the need to apologize for it. And who fits that description better than a complete asshole?

It's just a matter of degree. Why do so many guys actually seem to like ludicrously overinflated silicone breasts hard enough to stop a bullet? Because they're biologically programmed to respond to a particular trait, and that primitive sexual part of their brain doesn't understand the concept of "enough".

Because he held a position of indirect respect and oblique power. And she, being emotionally damaged from a lifetime alone, is incapable of resisting that kind of knight-in-shining-armor fantasy.

I'm sure he would have turned out to be a bastard if she'd given him a chance.

There's nothing that actually suggests that she shows affection for any of the jerkwads she dates, right? It's like if she chooses to like someone, it's for a very specific reason, except for Fry in Devils' Hands. It was different in the sense that Fry sort of grew on her (at least as much as can be portrayed in a 20-minute episode). As for what happened after the concert, my take is that he got his foot caught in his mouth again by talking about Amy. I liked the cartoon, Archonix! Adlai "saved" her by transforming her into what she thought was the ideal of beauty, for example. Don't mean to nitpick, but I thought Leela wanted two eyes to "fit in and be normal", not because she thought it made her more beautiful.

Instinctive drive - the 'stronger' the male counterpart seems, the more likely he is to provide plentiful raw mammoth meat and protect the cave from sabretooths. Since practical demonstrations of such skills aren't frequent in modern times the female's subconscious instead attempts to gauge strength through indirect indicators, which normally amount to simple bastardry (strutting pompousness and disregard for others). This is, of course, an inaccurate association, as we know that the quiet and reserved man is more often the one with the most powerful killer and survival instinct... but human perception is far from perfect.

This is a good example of Social evolution and biological evolution being out of sync. I do think though as people age, as a general rule this eroneous association between good provider and bastard becomes increasingly apparent...mind you some people never learn! leela is still stuck in this state of misperception, and I would guess given her rocky start in life might be a bit slower in breaking out of it.

Gaschief - the orphenarium environment could be equated to the prison environment, in which it's prudent to attach one's self to bad-ass top-dogs for safety. So Leela's orphenarium mentality of sticking on the side of the tough folk whenever possible may have translated to later life.
People at school used to think I was a loser - but who's the one systematically murdering our entire graduating class now six years later?! Is that what a loser does!?
That was probably unrelated.
