AHA! Found the insipration to Sinclair 2k and the Cartrige Unit from Obsoletely Fabulous, season four.

A robot with the body of the cartridge unit and the head of of Sinclair 2k, trying to escape from the scientists yardsale in a halloween simpsons episode.
The scientists robots name is Floyd i think...

Just saw it on TV  and had to post it.
Anyone see any inspiration to where the design of bender comes from, or any other robot?

Actually, you have to go back way further, to Robby the Robot from the classic sci-fi movie Forbidden Planet.

I thought I read somewhere once that the Sinclair2k was a reference to something on Red Dwarf.

How bout Bender then? Any obvious inspiration there like Robby for Floyd and Sinclair 2k?

I think they just tried to make him as much like a cliched 1950s B-Movie robot as possible.

Naa. The computer Holly refers to was a Sinclair ZX81, I believe.
