a few quick questions about the episode that airied tonight, probably stupid and already spoken for but here i go:

after Leela is reprimanding Bender for 'fooling around' with the planet express ship and stating that it's a violation to date a co-worker, she then says:

Leela: "Still, given the chance, I'd give in to urges far more shocking."

was she referring to Fry and her mixed feelings for him?

also, at the end, didnt the love rays created by the millions candy hearts make people 'fall in love' temporarily? is this why Leela accepted Fry's gesture and seemed to enjoy it?

thanks to TLZ

Hey, Leela loves Fry, no denying it. There is no way she gave him a chance just because there were some candy heart rayey thingy!

We may have gotten a glimpse at the shocking urges in her segment of the first Anthology of Interest.  After all, that's what would happen if she was just a little more impulsive.

I don't think it made people fall in love. Zoidy just said it was a mystical, love radiation that destroyed many, many planets. I love that voiceover though.

The candy heart thing didn't make people fall in love - which is good for us shippers.  :D

Also, only bun warmers can force people to fall in love.

I don't want to sound too perverted here, but I associate Leela's statement about shocking urges with Bender fooling around with a spaceship and I form a rather direct analogy in my mind.  Sure it's a little depraved but I think that's what the writer was alluding to.  When she beds Fry in AOI 1 it's not all that shocking.

Getting back to the romantic side of things, I don't want to believe that Leela was influenced too much by the candy heart radiation, therefore I won't.  She and Fry had a really serioius moment in the ship's brain room, so I can see her giving him a chance after that.

Aye.  Seems like the the beginning of the trend of season 5.  Many episodes end in such a way but they don't seem to develop a relationship.  Episodes such as The Sting, The Why of Fry, and The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings (implied).

Although the creators of Futurama explicitly stated that Futurama would have a more linear storyline and would follow real time (unlike the Simpsons), the story seems to fold pretty slowly.

Am I getting off topic here?  Yea I am.

Anyways good find, gwynhwyfar, I sometimes miss small details of dialogue like this.

This is one of my top 3 favorite episodes.  I have always thought that the rays from the quasar, just provoked, if you will, the connection that already existed between Leela and Fry.  They obviously already have some love for each other, and this episode and AOI show that it only takes a small change in circumstance for Leela to open up and accept Fry's advances.

Also, as far as sleeping with Fry goes in AOI, I have always thought that she sleeps with him because of the large amount of pent up emotions for him she has been hiding.  When all these feelings come out so suddenly, lust in the end result. Wether that observation is the shipper in me coming out or not is unknown
