is zapp brannigan gay?

i was wondering if zapp brannigan was gay because of the way he spanks lee-lemon (leela)when he thinks she's a man(in war is the h word) and how he is clearly dating a cross-dresser (in put your head on my shoulders)

If he's gay then why did he have sex with Leela? Also he was attracted to Lee Lemon because it was Leela in disguise.

And he's so thick that he didn't realise the cross dresser was a dude.
The lee-lemon plot always makes me feel that in his own twisted way, on some level, zapp does love Leela.

I don't think he is.  I think after a while, he knew that Lee Lemon was really Leela.  There's no way Zapp is gay, he's a self-proclaimed ladies man.

2 explanations: a) Zapp subconsciously picks up on Lee Lemon's ambiguous sexuality and reacts accordingly, confusing his conscious self, or b) Zapp is the offspring of Todd Quinlan and "appreciates hot regardless of gender". 

Personally I'm going with a), although b) would be hilarious.

Zapp had no clue whatsoever that the guy was a cross dresser/bisexual/"some other designation that are weird an deeply confusing", for all he care he was on a date with good prospects of advancing to second base and beyond.

Despite his personal and public persona as God's gift to women and the biggest spacefaring womanizer since James Tiberius Kirk, Zapp is a perpetual loser in the erotic department. Subconsciously Zapp's ego probably force him to go on dates with sexually ambiguous people just to maintain his own self delusion. Consciously he considers it a perk that random strangers throws themselves at his feet, promising surprises later on.

Zapp's attraction for a "man" in that episode was actually for Leela. Watch the thing again. He is worried by the fact that he seems to be attracted to this "man", and when he realises that she is in fact a woman, he is delighted that he has not somehow accidentally become gay.

Zapp compensates a lot because he gets very little. He's obviously comfortable with his sexuality, or he wouldn't be so casual about wearing a uniform which includes a velour miniskirt.

I think that Zapp is one of the most obviously heterosexual males in the show. You have to remember that Zapp isn't exactly the brightest star in the cosmos, bless 'im. He was attracted to Leela by all the same things that drew him to her originally, but without realising that it was her. Whilst he thought "Lee Lemon" was a man, he was disturbed by this, suggesting that he finds the idea of having a homosexual liason quite unsettling. People are just too eager to apply the "gay" label.

Or people are just stupid, and don't get jokes. I dunno. Just watch the episode again, and get it straight in your head.

Zapp is not gay.

Captain Zapp Brannigan is the greatest space hero who will ever live. How dare you bring unfounded slander against his name?
