His weight is probably fine per the doctors' charts, but he's a bit flacid (all over, that is).  He's not so much fat, but out of shape. If he had just the slightest motivation to work out he'd be decent.

Now what I don't get about Fry is that if he loves Leela so much and she's called him a "fat sack of crap" and took him to a gym once why doesn't he do anything about it?

Hermes is married to a woman who doesn't care that he's fat and Zapp has all the stress of command to deal with so we'll excuse him...(lol).

Well, his laziness seems to decrease as the series progresses, and maybe he's influenced by having won Leela's heart in TKOS without doing anything. Really I think he's probably too dumb/naive to make that connection.

I don't think that any of the characters are fat. You guys must have high standards.

Hermes is bigger than the others, but I wouldn't call him "fat." Fat is like... when you see someone and the first thing you notice about him is his size. Anything less than that is, you know, "a little pudgy."

Maybe it's just because I come from a Latin family and we're all "a little pudgy"?

[edit]

I think it's much nicer to see normal-sized characters than those super-svelte anorexic ones on japanime and such.

I dont mind that. However i do have a problem with him quoting people without commenting on it, just for the sake of showing it and his double posting.

Let's kill him. For real. It's been more than three years since I killed someone. Let's track down Amyfan2's actual identity and address and just kill the fucker.

Absolutely.  Let's run people off this bulletin board; that's just what we need, less people commenting because they get flamed for making a rookie mistake.  How about instead we tell them what the problem is without ripping on them or saying "you dumb fuck" or some similar childish rant.

The person was told. He/she/it is a troll - bumped dozens of ancient threads with one or two word posts even after he/she/it was asked to stop.

The lesson is: never defend anybody.

Stuff like this is why I love listening to the commentaries. This kind of body design is a Matt Groening hallmark like the large bug eyes on the characters, overbites, and the ability to identify main characters in profile.

They arent fat, its that they probably made fry to look like the average guy, the average guy has 20 to 25% bf, thats about what fry has

I would say Fry is fairly slim...he has a little bit of a belly or as in the professor's words  "adorable jelly belly" which adds to his cuteness. :D I wouldn't say that he's fat at all.

I love Fry's build because it's pretty much identical to my build and makes me feel better about it even though Fry probably isn't someone I should want to see much of myself in.

I think that the artist/designer just drawns the characters like that. Theres no reason wy the are pudgy or fat.

Yes, like in Simpsons when they want to go to the Super Bowl and it's a woman bus driver, the camera pans to them all sucking in their guts, even Moe I think (who is surprisingly skinny).

Like giving humans four fingers on each hand. Or robots three. I think people just tend to like fat sacks of crap so long as the women are gorgeous. Classic sitcom recipe (that I don't really understand but ok).

I think Fry should be scrawny.  And have no belly, and you can see his rib cage.  Bender can rip on him about it.

That would look very unaesthetically pleasing. Like when Lois becomes a model in Family Guy and you can see her rib cage. They even play it like a xylophone. Skinny is one thing, but that would be gross. :/

Actually, not being able to make out ones ribs seems to be the de facto definition of 'fat' these days.
