More like staring, running and coming back with shotguns, or un-plugging all the modems (depending on what you like most, Dawn of the Dead, or The Honking)... Shall we also mix some time travel in this maybe, so you come from the future and wake yourself up while dead ?

funny though, CA, I still say you & Cyber complement each other really well - and the French have a saying... no, not now.

The French say "No, not now"?
Wouldn't it be "Non, pas maintenant"?

I'd be lucky to be with a lady of refinement like Sarah, but I believe she's married... is that right? I think she said something about being married. I could be wrong.
In any case, she could do infinitely better than me.

[The Deep Down Universe. A weird, rather deserted Space except for a few weirdos,  the occasional spannmmer and maybe  a troll or two. This Space still tastes a bit like cubans - sign that the Po*nLord (heheh) has blessed this place with his mighty presence not long ago. It's quiet...but for a distant rumble. It's now getting louder. Hmmm...it is a Bending Unit. You can even hear its calm, resolute voice now: 'Who-hooooo...Steady! Steeeady!' STOMP! The Space shakes, its Dimensions wobble... but it's all good. The Unit lost a leg. 'Well, so much for a smooth landing. Reattach the foot. Engage rotor...wait - no! not here! (rotor goes back to its... hatch) - now who programmed *that*?]

No, (you sarcastic and all, but still) the saying was different and also romantic. But I retract the whole thing after one of my latest web surfs. But let's cheer up, this is the Deep Down, not the Show Down Thread...

...Awwwkay, there seem to be no takers for the Death by Snoo-Snoo... for now. I'll wait some more. Myself... I am quite tempted. Although they say death by heart attack is really not pretty - who knows, you may empty your bowels (like poor Fry supposedly did in The Sting), and that may upset your partner even more... Okay... that's enough.

(Yeah...Back to Human nature exploration while unashamedly using Futurama characters...)

Well, I aksed a while ago whether one (he or she) would like to cross over the gender line for a certain period of time... The example there was BendHer, which of course kept all his mental male traits and so became irresistible to... males.  Well I did not realise there is a 'light' version of that... in Put Your Head On My Shoulder(s?) (PYHOMS).

Fry gets a glimpse of the female side, and being Fry, almost gets to see more than he wants.

I wonder... Fry was able to move a hand. But did he actually feel everything Amy felt? Or that would-be sex episode that Leela saved him from would have just been 'watching'?

And thus the question as well... well if you don't want to cross over totally for a while, would you rather be in Fry's position in PYHOMS, i.e. minimal / no control but seeing everything (voyeurism included)? And this applies to both males and females.

Yes I know, there's been a movie - whose title I do not remember - with a two-in-one where they controlled approx half each, etc etc. Nice.

[EDIT] I also wonder - has this kind of thing been explored in any fanfic(s) - gender bender, body switching while keeping the psyche - something in the style of what Apple_Tea proposed a while ago around here...

I dunno... in a way it'd be like watching porn in 3D, but in another more earthly way you can't escape the fact that you'd be in close proximity to another man blowing his load. Not for me.

Understandable. Look at Fry's face above.

It's also understandable that some may prefer not to answer such a question in an open discussion thread, but rather fantasize about it. Well if that post or this thread trigger that, they accomplished something    ;)

CA - why the hell did you not get the trial 6 months on one point? I did that and made it. You would've had a job and not be that bitter - or maybe that's not for provisionals, well then forget it

The trial whatwhat? Is that the thing where if you lose the one point you can't drive for twelve months or something? Because I would almost certainly lose it.
Anyway, this is the second time I've lost my licence so I don't think they'd be handing out any kind of allowance for me.

It's not my fault - the speed limits are just too low. Something needs to be done about them... I tried altering the signs with spray paint, but the RTA just keeps cleaning it off...

EDIT: I'm always bitter anyway. Just now I have a good reason... I suppose I should be thankful in an obscure sort of way for that.

Well, if you want to start an Amy-Leela shipper thread, go for it...but this IS a PG rated board, and you'd have to keep it toned down.

Speaking of PG ratings, I'm thinking you should have put a warning, or a spoiler tag, around that link to your Turanga Pages art.  It's too easy too click links without looking, and there are a lot of youngsters around here (I mean, younger than mere 20-something infants like yourself  :p ) and I'm sure the mods wouldn't want a twelve-year old clicking unknowingly on a link to an explicit sex site (even animated sex).  You might go back and edit something in, maybe...?

Yeah. I don't give a rat's arse about all that, if a kid's old enough to contribute to intelligent discussion then it's old enough to know a few things about life. If not then it shouldn't be on the net at all. I know what I got into at that age anyway, but regardless I deleted the link yesterday due to a complaint. I laugh at the meaningless societal sensibilities exhibited by institutionalized humanity, and the irony that coddling like that is actually detrimental in the long run. The world is what it is, you either adjust or you become incompatable with it.
Funny how nobody complains when people on here unashamedly use very obscene language.  :p

I agree with that...and aside from the purely practical "this could cause RL trouble for PEEL if a parent objects"  aspect, my only concern is that the presumed-innocent in question should be able to make an informed decision about what he/she feels comfortable viewing.  Someone young may not be experienced enough to pick up the subtext in the surrounding posts - experience being the one thing that youth, by definition, lacks - that the site was "adult" oriented.  A warning, stating clearly what the link goes to, is just part of keeping people properly informed.

Actually, they do, and have, and I've even seen it.  I'm not sure why no one has (lately) in the shipper threads...perhaps they think shippers are too busy being fluffy and romantic to engage in much profanity.  ;)

Anyway, I understand your frustration, it really does go too far most of the time, this urge to protect "the children" from whatever the parent doesn't want to be bothered explaining...but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater - a "heads up" is just good netiquette, no matter WHAT the age of the readers.

It's all good.

Yeah, it is all good. I made an oblique reference to the site in passing and someone asked me what it was, so I showed them. I don't really think about stuff like that, screaming little kids and uptight prudes are beneath my notice.

I'm sure you're right. But I simply cannot overstate how little I really care. I'm not trying to be rude by saying that, it's merely a statement of fact. I understand and acknowledge all concerns, but I just haven't the energy or inclination to even try to share them. I don't care at all about anything that other people think or feel. Which sounds evil and probably is, but I'm just being honest. I ran out of care quite some time ago.

Netiquette is also of no interest to me.

Anyhow, lets get back on track. You pick a topic and we'll examine it.  :)

This is on topic (analysis), I keep saying that damnit - CA, you would sooner or later discover that you (or whoever) can't live isolated... for too long anyway - unless you freeze yourself - but even then you would need some infrastructure to provide power to the bloody device to keep the temp down or you will defrost... and spoil (even more). In the Pilot they never explained how power was still supplied to Fry's freezer (Ok atomic batteries or the like, but come-ooon). Anyway, I can see you can adapt when necessary (see the mot-á-mot (or figurative?) sex episode of the poor licence-less cornered man with the dominating female boss - NO, don't comment on that Shiny!, I took it back) so I'm sure most of this is just another... mask; it doesn't turn me on, but hey by now I am probably replusive or insignificant to you so we're even - har-har   :). I did not say I like to live in the society but one of Brannigan's Laws says (approximately) that if you can't beat the enemy, then join them. Brannigan is a sleazy coward, but sometimes he Shines... well, sort of (once or twice?). Adapt the above to 'use them to your advantage'. You will not compromise you psyche (since it's all an act) and you will rise. Geez, this sounds like a lesson from Fry on how to conquer females. Great.

To adapt is to be intelligent and survive - so I can't believe you can't dodge the freakin' speed cam - I took it as a challenge. I never speed madly like idiots do - I was just unlucky and got done like you in one point increments. Ok, I accelerate a lot, but it doesn't last - just like Brannigan's Love

[Australianese]OI![/Australianese] WAKE UP! There's more!

Well 1) I kept beating the sex swap to death but there were no takers. 2) I have also tried to entice other PEELers to tell us if they would like to die while snoo-snooing (or doing the snno-snno, sorry, I'll get slammed again for being sexist on positions and who snno-es who) - that also drew huge crowds... 3) I also posted a pic of myself and that put an end to people like TLF and Any1else coming to visit, and probably, the pic combined with err...your former link (BTW I did not ask you to take it off, so don't imply that man, I left it to you or the mods, allright?) also scared all kids, fairies and other presumed innocent characters from the Deep Down Space. So at this point it's, like I said, ... not very popular. Maybe a desert bush or two rolling ...

Speaking of which...you people talk about continuing this thread? I'm not making another one, sorry, this one was enough. Since SHINY does not get the ethereal clues I keep deploying gently, I will just ask her SHINY DO YOU WANT TO MAKE THE NEXT DD THREAD as a poll or just a thread or whatever you wanted and maybe call it 'Fry & Leela blah blah... something... romance... yadda yadda' [ColdAngel, 2006] or 'Self exploration by Futurama Proxy' - i.e. using any character to analyze yourself or others (since we're running out of steam with just Fry & Leela - maybe) or 'Whatever you like'? (Phew that took care of that)

And I will do a post on page 20 thanking everyone that contributed so please spare one post slot for me. Thanks. Sincerely, your Bending Unit [insert same take off scene here, I am too lazy to CTRL-C/CTRL-V].

And I'm done. As for other topics... ... AHHH - gotta run watch the weekly Futurama!

Also; I've actually never been booked by a fixed speed camera, just random *Viet-Cong* officers in the shrubbery with mobile hidden cameras or unmarked patrol cars on the highway. Sneaky, dishonourable tactics aimed solely to raise revenue.

I know you weren't asking for me to remove the link. I'm just being delightfully petulant.

Tale of Two Santas was on tonight. Been a while since I saw that one. Nothing really romantic in it... unless you count Fry and Zoidberg hugging each other really close... and I most certainly do not.
Fry and Leela have very little interaction in this episode... which may be because it comes directly after Parasites Lost. Aha!

A Tale of Two Santas... reasonably good episode but very little shippyness. I always wish it was Fry hugging Leela at the end instead of Zoidberg. Why didn't the writers do that? Leela is the obvious choice for Fry to hug and Zoidberg seems least likely for any hug.

I believe there was a little moment when the ran into the lift at Neptune after the missile Santa shot was after them and Fry was hugging Leela's waist or something (in fear)? I don't remember, I'll have to look at that again.

And it comes directly after Roswell so not after PL.

Er... does it? I've lent my box-set out at the moment so I can't check there, but wikipedia has it listed in this order:

34: Parasites Lost
35: A Tale of Two Santas
36: Luck of the Fryish.

Has the unthinkable happened? Is wikipedia wrong?!?!

No, I don't think so... Roswell is episode #51...  you're not going by the order that Ten is showing them in, are you? Because they're going at random now. I know they put Roswell on last week, but that means nothing now.

This was the episode after Parasites Lost, so the distance between Fry and Leela is best explained by the events of the previous episode. They're uncomfortable with each other. Fry's a bit morose and Leela's a bit angry... if you wanted to read too much into something, you might suggest that to be the reason they were both so eager to go and take on Santa (a suididal undertaking) - a convenient dump for riled-up emotions.

Hmmm... different orders... why is that?
Does anyone know which is the one true order?

EDIT!!!
Wikipedia says this of its episode order listing:
This list is in production order, primarily because this is the order used on the DVDs and it helps avoid plot inconsistencies.
Not sure what that means... does that imply that it is the order they were intended to be shown in, as opposed to broadcast order? Need help with this.

Yeah, there are two orders. Established that one you showed me is the broadcast order as opposed to the production order, though the production order (shown on wiki) is what is on the DVDs. The comment made "primarily because this is the order used on the DVDs and it helps avoid plot inconsistencies" makes me wonder which version of numbering is preferred and/or intended by the makers... if any.
The dual ordering makes analysis of possible adjacent episode repercussions of events depicted somewhat problematic unless a definitive canon order can be established.
I tend to be dubious of broadcast order because I know how Fox likes to jilt things around unceremoniously.

jle, congrats on becoming a proffie!

Well what do you mean by Leela / Amy thread? Poll, relationship (huh?), interaction... maybe I am missing the obvious here?

As for Fry / Zapp.. well they didn't really interact a lot according to the canon (CA makes them interact somewhat - hehe) - they're pretty much like ColdAngel and myself - rather avoiding and interacting with each other at an arm's length in a kind of uneasy truce. Am I right CA    ;) So I don't see what the thread would be about...

[@CA] Oh and thanks for the heads-up on sex-swapping (if it only worked and was reversible easy enough - hehe) - it was meant as a mental experiment - I know you know that's what I meant  :flirt:

Was that done by Ken Keeler? If not, maybe that's the reason... We know there are of a lot of inconsistencies... such as after a shippy-intense ep, Fry & Leela act as if nothing happened although they've been through life&death experiences. That kinda sucks. I know that in real life, sometimes and maybe, after an intense episode with your beloved, you are tempted to stand back a little, for a while - sort of you get scared of how quick things develop. But it's nothing like the shippy / non-shippy  /non-shippy..../non-shippy / shippy eps we are getting... anyway, enough with the whinge, could be worse.

That is why I was proposing if there a new thread, maybe it would be on how we relate to various characters in Futurama, especially, but not only Fry & Leela. That thread would still be in the HR dept and may contain shippy. Just another idea. We can keep beating on the few shippy eps, sure, but I feel at times we run out of things to say (?) Dunno.

I believe we have gotten to the stage where we are desperately looking for any closeness between Fry & Leela, be it even just a reflex to grab onto ... anything. Could've been Leela's waist, or Bender's ass plate...  ;)

WHERE ARE THE NEW EPS / DVDs? We're going nuts here!
