Ah, like my Commander when he says send the boys out without weapons to show we're not a threat.

Ha.
I wouldn't do that.
Was this a UN-mandated operation by any chance? One of those hilarious 'only shoot them if they shoot you first' kind of exercises? Those are always a riot... not.

Well.....

It was just before September, and there had been reports of large civlian gatherings in the centre of Basra. So Four-Two RM was "Requested" to investigate the incident. I gathered my men, and briefed them on the situation, explaining that it was thought to be civilians and that no hostile actions were to be taken or provoked, but as we headed out of the Hotel (it weren't really a hotel, it's just what we called it) our C.O hustled over and said "In order not to provoke the populace with any show of force, we should go out with minimal body armour and just our side arms, why they are using one of the best fighting forces in the world to go on crowd control is beyond me, but they needed those who could handle themselves if it turned ugly.

Which it did.

I don't want to talk about it.

Fair enough.
Historically military leaders have an near-infinate capacity for underestimating the depths of contempt they inspire in those they conquor.
We like to think of ourselves as the 'good guys', though the opinion is rarely shared. Having spent time on both sides of that divide I have come to understand why - there is simply no such thing.

RE: The artefacts Leela has of Fry in the cardboard box in 'The Sting'. Do you think she has them in proper continuity or were they present only in that dream? It would be nice if the box is real and is actually under her bed in the 'real' world.

Yes, but when a military leeder makes a cock up he's not there where all hell breaks lose.

But it would be nice to think that Leela had some sort of collection of items, but in the episode where she finds out who her parents are there was a letter or poem of somesort by Fry there in the trash that she threw out.

Hmmmm....

Perhaps it was too overt an expression of *forbidden* emotion for her to cope with or rationalize.
