I would agree that they took away the ability to achieve his full potential on his own, but he has made (almost) no attempt whatsoever to do so on his own, before or after. (I say 'almost' because in "Time Keeps On Slippin'" he was teaching himself how to operate some of the ship's equipment. Beyond that, we've seen considerably less than zero.) Dumping Amy? Ding ding ding, we have winner! Some say Amy is a shallow hole who would've ditched Fry the moment someone else came along--but she's still locked on Kif, and they (apparently) haven't even properly "consumated the relationship" yet. Fry's reasons for dumping Amy were so foolish, even Leela pointed this out. Fry snagged the ultimate brass ring, played with it for a second, then tossed it away. F***ing total idiot. Pregnancy and other unforseeable misfortune aside, Fry's going to be jealous of Kif someday--for the rest of his life.

I doubt that. If anything Fry is blunt and forth-coming if He doesn't see Amy in that way, He quite simply doesn't see Amy in that way. The only way he'd be jealous of Kif is, He hasn't got he's love(Leela), and Kif has(Amy).

I think it happened after "Amazon Women In The Mood": Kif: "So...uhm..uh..Amy, what..eh..do you wanna..eh..do now?" (Amy whispers something in his ear)Kif: "Ehhh..uhh...jeez...uhm.eh..je zz [wheeze]..eh..uhmm.." About the worms: Yeah, Fry made the right decision about them, in that sense that he wants Leela to fall for him through his own merits and acchievements, not by taking a shortcut. The tragic part is, that the worms where probably Fry's best chance ever to win Leela's heart. They helped him reach his full potential (or a big chunk of it), and showed that if Fry matured a great deal Leela would definately be interested. So now Fry knows there is hope, yet he doesn't do much in the maturering section (Love & Rocket was a small step, but then again his little mishap in "Roswell That Ends Well" probably didn't do his mission any good).

Originally posted by Teral: I think it happened after "Amazon Women In The Mood" True, it seemed that way at the time, but "Where The Buggalo Roam" suggests otherwise. Perhaps poor Kiffy couldn't get his little soldier to stand up and shoot, if you know what I mean...* All of you make good points about the worms; from a series-writing standpoint, keeping them would've destroyed the show; from a philosophical standpoint, sure, it was cheating--in the same way aspirin or Slim-Fast is cheating--and from a strictly realistic and practical standpoint, getting rid of them was damned foolish. As for Fry's "Amy/Leela" issues, I can understand where everyone is coming from. We saw what Fry's mum was like in "Luck of the Fryish," so we can see why he might be drawn to strong, authoritative women to fill a certain void from his childhood, rather than stay with giggly Amy, who is more like himself...but if it were me, I'd still be givin' Ms. Wong backrubs with my homemade massage oil. Fry was having the time of his life with her. I would've kept Amy AND the worms and lived happily ever after in wealth, health, and butt-spanking happiness. (Leela could come by every weekend for some three-way action. Yeah I'm greedy.) But who wants to see THAT? (Happiness, not three-way action.) *Yes, that statement is based on sour grapes and seething jealousy.

asking for sympathy, from Leela(of all people), on X-mas, when she's the one that needed it the most. THAT was pretty stupid.

While re-watching "I Second that Emotion" today I noticed Fry step into that rope trap that they had made to capture the sewer monser alchipenetray(can't spell name). That was pretty dumb, especially considering he was on his way to save Bender.
